  1. Surely the point of FMJ is to not be so likely to be lethal hence the requirement for their being used in military applications as per Hague convention? http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/instree/1899f.htm
  2. Thanks Duncan, I have persuaded them to open my FAC air without a further, basically by writing up my experience, lets see what they say about rimfire now. Cheers, H
  3. Hi Nod, It's not a mentor they want but someone who has taken me shooting to provide a letter for their file saying I'm not an idiot - in their words to 'vouch for me'. It would be nice if there were some consistency in the system but I'm not the first to think that. Oh and for those that think I made finding a permission look easy, there are a bunch of other stories I could tell which ended up in frustrating dead ends. I think finding a permission is another kind of hunting. Cheers, H
  4. Long time since I've been here but I've just got a new permission and thought I'd share the how for those who find that sort of thing tricky. 1. move somewhere new 2. find a field with lots-a-bunnies 3. visit local shop, the independent one which has obviously been in the family for years, ask who owns field 4. get wrong persons name 5. ask wrong person who does own it 6. track down and phone owner, saying you were referred by 4. 7. owner says it's up to tenant 8. ask for tenants number 9. contact tenant saying owner said to call them 10. meet tenant, show him insurance and get ma

  6. I've been quiet on here for the last few months while training to run a Marathon. After some years of creeping around in camouflage, trying to keep hidden and treading as softly as I can, I've been surprised by how close to 'nature' I have got. Picture this, I was running noisily though long dry grass, wearing a bright blue shirt, carrying a sloshing water bottle and puffing like a good un' - I passed within 25 yds UP WIND of 2 deer and all they did was watch me! Other times I've got so close to the odd rabbit or two and had both an owl and a red kite gliding beside me. The only th
  7. I find rabbits shot with a shotgun very bloody, Headshots with an FAC air rifle are my preference as I'm not allowed rimfire on the farm where I shoot. Having said that my Hatsan does fine but I prefer it when other people use break barrel shotguns as it is so obvious when they are safely broken. Also the semmi is longer than the over&under. Halam
  8. 1.5 MoA is 1.5 MoA whatever the range so the same number of clicks. As you increase the distance the size in inches of a minute increases so its more or less 1 inch at 100 yds scales up to 3 inches at 300 yds. 5 clicks would be 3/4" per click times 5 = 15/4 = 12 and 3/4 or in decimal that would be 12.75 so your right.
  9. OK with an air rifle I guess, it will carry a few 100 yds, but 22LR could go over a mile. In the UK it would be illegal for an air rifle pellet to end up where you don't have permission to shoot. Shotgun is the tool for the job. H
  10. 10yrs seems arbitrary and excessive. On the other hand, if you didn't know about how and when you can use someone else's rifle then you haven't done your homework - read up on 'estate rifle' clause and the discussion of who qualifies as 'occupier'. You could propose you do a BASC basic rifle course, DSC or something if you don't have know someone who can vouch for you. Cheers, H Edited to add, if your an underkeeper, why not the keeper to vouch for you?
  11. If you cut the barrel, you will cut the power and use more air. It is what it is, my 34FtLb S410 feels like a flipping cannon, shoots great with AA Field zero at 45 yds for 1/2" high at 35-40 yds. H
  12. Wont the vixen move the others now?
  13. Collected Hatsan, seems to be all there, it looks like it has been knocking around the shop for bit and has a couple of scratches and no paperwork but hay its a gift. Semis are a lot longer than over/unders aren't they, I'll take it to Lakenheath next weekend for a try out. H
  14. I'm not sure that sentence makes sense. Lets recap, Most Shotguns, upto and including 3 shot Semi-Automatics need a Shotgun Certificate - which is much easier to get than a firearms certificate, no requirement to prove a need. Shotguns with a capacity of more than 3 shots are classed as firearms so need a Firearms Certificate, and you have to need one. Halam

  16. It's arrived at my RFD in Ely, I'll get it in the morning. H

  18. It's taken a while to arrange the RFD transfer over Easter but it should be sorted this week. They plan to send it tommorow so it arrives Thursday - we will know soon enough now. I'll give them a call tomorrow just to check it's on its way. Cheers, Halam
  19. How about this? http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/201102-cz-452-22lr-synthetic-for-sale-or-swap-for-hmr/
  20. It's called a variation, so ask for one when your ready, get another moderator while your at it. You must have to re-zero after changing barrels for the different ammo, so the quad is just not practical unless your using it for range shooting. H
  21. If you want range, you need accuracy. The accuracy given here: http://www.highlandsports.com.au/images/Review-pdf633995767149794903.pdf inch at 50 yds off a bench rest, is limited by the trigger. The JW15 copies the BRNO MK1 trigger, the MK 2 trigger of the CZ is much better (BRNO and CZ are closely related). You cant expect to shoot well in real field conditions with a trigger who's pull weight is greater than the weight of the rifle. Worse than that - it's an insult to be offered a gun with a rubbish trigger - oops, almost went into a rant there, I better go and harvest some more bunni
  22. Apart from someone trying to sell them, have you ever had anyone recommended the Puma? I haven't. Cant even find a review anywhere - isn't it a JW15? Apart from someone trying to sell something else, have you ever had anyone say there is anything to make you wary of CZ? I haven't. What is it you like about the Puma? H
