  1. It doesn't matter what the letter of the law is, it's so much easier to work with the form they want than to try and argue it with them. H
  2. This one at Cambs Police: www.cambs-police.co.uk/firearms/forms/landauth.pdf enjoy!
  3. Deker, I'm unable to send you a PM, can you send me an email address so we can talk about gun cabinets? Cheers, Halam PS, how often do you clean your gun cabinet? LOL
  4. Spurred on by my comment earlier I called the guy again I've been asking for permission for 18 months but he kept being too busy. I'm seeing him on Tuesday. More nervous than my FEO interview
  5. No benefit of longer barrel for longer range. If you want to shoot far past your zero range either practice judging distance or get a HMR. Halam
  6. Best? Depends on what you want it for. Either way there is not a lot in it so go by what feels right with a moderator on. It's kind of: if you have to ask then it doesn't matter. I'd buy 16" - if I bought second hand so only had the long choice I'd plan on cutting it down to just 14" sooner or later. H
  7. I believe the arguments go like this: 20" With open sights the extra distance between the sights can lead to better accuracy from the shooter - not that the gun is more accurate - it's just easier to see mis-alignment of the sights. Some think a longer barrel will give higher velocity because the bullet is pushed for longer but for a 22LR the powder is all burnt by 14" so no velocity benefit of longer barrel. The center of balance will be further forwards which may make off hand shooting steadier. 16" Easier to handle in vehicle, particularly with a moderator fitted. Lighter to
  8. Ah, time for a do-you-clean-your-hmr thread! Well, do ya? and how? I know lots has been said already but I don't remember it being backed up by accurate barrel life. Halam
  9. Pretty much anyone can be a referee, so long as he doesn't have a dodgy record the landowner should be fine. Written permission is your proof you need the rifle - you need only one, my police (Cambs) wanted it on their own Land Authority form. If if hasn't already been checked the land survey will confirm the land suffers from the vermin in question. Good luck, Halam
  10. you need to ask for a moderator (HMR cant be silenced, but can be made less loud) and expanding ammunition. Don't tell him where you keep the keys, they are in a safe place. Good luck H
  11. If you have permission over the land and the rifle listed on your firearms licence you may shoot unsupervised. You can not buy a rifle or ammunition, it has to be given or lent to you.
  12. Phone and ask, find out who the application has been assigned to and get their number. Don't hassle them to death but it's good to show an interest.
  13. I was camping with 10 at the weekend - but I guess your talking about the other sort. H
  14. I just had a call from Amanda at Cheshire Gun Room saying I'd won a Hatsan Escourt in the draw at the National Shooting Show I havent been so thrilled since I won seed potatoes in the village show. Halam
  15. Shoot some paper and see how it groups is the first step I think. H
  16. I think you have to request expanding ammunition as well.
  17. Hornet cases 24p each here http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/74b14cb41c4818392084218/Remington+22+Hornet+Rifle+Cases/ of course you can reuse them, but how many times?
  18. Sounds good to me. If its reasonably modern then a trigger kit form Ringfire Magic costs about £12. Well respected brand see the other thread on HW60J v CZ452 which is more or less what I guess you have, assuming yours is bolt action.. Give us the numbers and maybe a photo of the area around the ejection port for a more definite identification. There is stuff of youtube on trigger work. Halam
  19. Can you do much with the BRNO mk 1 trigger? Being a fan of doing as much as I can with as little as I can my holy grail is an accurate rough old girl. H
  20. The word according to BASC: http://www.basc.org.uk/download.cfm/docid/9F65FF5E-4A24-4411-9040F0825D4B8B8C
  21. It looks to me like you can for the protection of crops etc http://wales.gov.uk/docs/desh/policy/110101conservewcal01en.pdf but as sport quarry there is a season http://www.basc.org.uk//en/departments/game-and-gamekeeping/game-shooting/shooting-seasons.cfm
