  1. rifle yes, shotgun no, unless someone can show me the actual rules otherwise.
  2. PM sent. if it's good enough for you, it's defiantly good enough for me.
  3. "a lot of people miss the vitals at that range with a .22lr and its not pretty," Bit of a side issue, but if I can hit a bunny head at 50 yds why not shoot a fox the same way with a 22LR at the same range?
  4. Erm, I have a couple and not used them for some time. I'll see what still has living batteries.
  5. When your prone with the rifle on a rest or bipod you can see the cross-hairs move on the target as you move your head up and down even though the gun is steady. Adjust parallax till the target and cross-hairs are stable. On a poor scope the focus and parallax may not coincide and on my scopes the marks on the parallax adjustment ring don't reflect the true distances. Having said all then, you should learn to position your eye consistently, I don't mess about with such adjustments in the field.
  6. Yay! my variation arrived today, I'm a happy boy.
  7. Just been told my variation was posted on 9th 2nd class. To quote something I saw on someone's: Trigger happy? Trigger ecstatic! must be about 3 weeks turnaround which I think is great (Cambridgeshire)
  8. I did my O/U, took stock off and gave it a good clean with actionblaster, even managed to fix the safety. If you want to dismantle further take lots of pictures as you go along.
  9. Every day I drive home hoping and hoping my shiny new FAC will have arrived. Obsessive checking of guntrader is like a drug.
  10. I think if your target shooting at a range you have all the time in the world to dial in on the turrets. In live quarry hunting all you might want to touch is parallax. Just zero at 100yds and account for drop by holdover. Windage is just too variable to be worth twiddling, hold to one side but only once you have the experience to know how much. Felt I had to answer as a reward for creating such an enjoyable debate.
  11. Funny the BASC doc I looked at said England and Wales only but http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1980/66 shows this applies to NI also.
  12. In England and Wales it is only an offence if someone "discharges any firearm or firework within 50 feet of the centre of such a highway, and in consequence a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered," I had this discussion with my FEO a few years ago and they didn't know the detail the way I did. It took me ages to find the act because its not in firearms legislation, rather its the Highways Act 1980 (section 161) A level 1 fine in the UK is upto £200. Lets see if I can find the equivalent NI legislation...
  13. Just heard from FEO he is approving me for 22lr and 17hmr, now I'm exited! Looking for bolt guns in both calibres So 2 questions: 1. Do you expect to try before you buy? At least I'd like to see that a used gun is rabbit headshot accurate. People always seem to claim a gun is accurate but rarely say what they mean. 2. Then do you haggle? if so how much reduction do you look for? an example is this CZ: http://www.guntrader.co.uk/Guns-For-Sale/CZ_Rifle_452-Style_For-Sale_121024105609001 The guys have got to make a living but I need to know if I should bother looking at guns I th
  14. Naa, your not allowed to shoot an elephant with 223, except in Scotland.
  15. These questions have been discussed here loads of time look back through the history.
  16. Looks like I'm right about Puma being same as norinco: http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Rifle/Norinco-JW-15-E-BOLT-ACTION-gun-for-sale-gs67957.aspx
  17. I assume they are re-branded Norinco going by the JW15 model number and suspect the Sterling ones are the same but I've only seen Puma advertised with 16 inch barrel. Based on CZ model 1 rather than 2 so the trigger would be harder to fettle.
  18. I thought it would be because of diet but others from the same field are normal. Lets see how it tastes!
  19. Thanks Nod for the outing yesterday, had fun and now determined to get a rimfire. One of the rabbits we shot has very yellow fat. I've had fatty rabbits a few times before but never such bright yellow. Any one able to explain - I'm thinking it's still good to eat. Cheers, Halam
  20. I think they only have the model 1 style trigger.
  21. You can apply for whatever you want, getting it depends on your needs, experience and local policies. Talk it trough with your FEO first.
  22. Must be a licensed club. Note rules are different for rifles where the 'estate condition' may apply.
  23. Maybe .22 shot shells? Is it the dealer or the ammo which is crap?
  24. Had a friend with one once, had it for re-enactment. Need a separate explosive licence for the block powder though can use pyrodex I think. I had the last of he BP off her when I was into high power rockets. She used to keep the BP in a tea pot.
