Great things if you need them, but let's face it, most folk don't. I had some on my 4x4, they were great cos I could rest two bales of hay (when they were small square bales!) on them to carry up to the horses without having to struggle up the hill with the wheelbarrow, I also used them to stand on when working on the engine as I am too short to reach otherwise. If you don't need them leave them off. They look great but they are lethal.

Sherley's is crap. Use Drontal or Panacur, milbemax is great but not if your dog has collie in him. Make sure you weigh the dog as advised, don't guess or go by a weight from months ago, this is really important.

he is ok now Glad to hear it!

Me too, if they are sick and can't keep water down or have bad runs, a couple of days is long enough to wait.

I only know one Puli and it's aggressive, ugly, smells and the owners paid a fortune for it. The other week they tried to give it to me for free! Guess what my answer was! (Hint, it bit me on the leg once...)

I have a freeware programme called Easy Thumbnails, I downloaded it years ago. You can change pics to whatever size you want, I use it to reduce the size of photos I'm emailing. Or you can sign up for a photobucket account, it's free and you can upload your photos onto it in different sizes. http://photobucket.com

The advice above is fine if your dog has a bit of the runs for a day or two, but personally, after a week and if it is now like water I would take him to the vet, it could be a virus or a gastric thing, but either way he will be getting dehydrated and will probably need some electrolytes. Dogs can die very quickly from dehydration and it is much harder for them to recover from it than it is for humans. Pinch a flap of skin on his scruff and see if it snaps back straight away. Press his gums and see if the colour comes back almost immediately. If not he is dehydrated.

Well my lurcher's recall is usually great, but this snow combined with less exercise than usual has made her extremely hyper and she's just louped the garden wall and had me chasing her up the street, absolutely crapping myself in case she went on the main road (which is a 30 speed limit but no one cares!). It's at times like this I wish I wasn't teetotal! Dogs will be dogs, and none are perfect, mine is 15 months and anyway Salukis never grow up. They are always going to have their naughtier moments, no matter how well they are trained. As someone has already said above mine also ju

Haha, no chance! I managed to get one today in my local shop, so he'll be happy tomorrow!

Spaying changes the hormone levels so it can be harder to keep a speyed bitch slim, same as it's harder for a woman with kids to stay slim. That isn't an excuse though! I'm just saying that it is more difficult. It can also change their coat. Someone I know who works his rescue springers found their coats went sort of rusty coloured and more fluffy, but since swimming them in the sea every day they look better, he reckons its to do with all the female hormones washed into the sea from the pill. Could be something in that. A surprisingly large percentage of spayed bitches suffer from i

Well I went to Asda today and it was busy, but surprisingly I managed to get everything on my list. Must be the first time ever. BUT, why do they only sell cans of Guinness in fours now?? I always buy one for the horse and couldn't get it in asda - I wasn't going to buy four, he'd be

This happens all the time on ebay, sellers who are scammers steal other people's pics to because obviously they haven't actually got the item to photograph. I use photobucket and if I catch anyone using my photos I replace the pic with this: but that can only be done through photobucket. If I posted a pic of my dog and found someone else passing her off as theirs I'd be devastated, if a charity used a photo for fund raising or whatever I'd be ok with that, but it is manners to ask. Any commercial company using it should offer a payment. Someone I know saw a photo of his S

need help with my lurcher pup
Annmarie09 replied to luke2009's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
There's time yet, wait til he's about 10 months. There is another recent thread here somewhere about a spaniel, check it out for some info. -

Surely this is a joke? DON'T send the phone, cancel the paypal transaction. Even if the money clears into your account they can reverse the transaction and you end up with neither. Put the phone on ebay, they have really improved their help with non-paying buyers and scammers so you will have some protection. Or else put it in the free paper and accept cash on collection only.

I have a pair of neoprene gloves for riding the horse, out with the dog etc and they are the best gloves I ever had. Nice and warm but not bulky so you can still feel what you're doing. A tip for if your hands are going to be cold but dry is a thin pair of cotton gloves under whatever other gloves you are wearing really helps. They are quite commonly available for use by people with skin conditions, for cafe staff etc.

Teaching a Deerhound To Retrieve
Annmarie09 replied to Helen's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I don't know anything about Deerhounds but there are lots when we go lure coursing. They are always good for a laugh because they will only chase the lure when they want, one will run one month and not the next, some of them pack it in half way round. They certainly seem to be very strong willed, do what they want dogs, but really great all the same! Last month the lure was soaked in tripe which seemed to help. -
I have no idea what that could be except perhaps a brain problem causing her to have trouble balancing, but I would get her down the vet's quick sharp because it doesn't sound good. Let us know how she gets on please?
-
Depends on the vet, some would want to fully castrate him to make sure you don't breed from him, but perhaps if you give a good reason to keep the other one attached he might go for it.
-
stuborn? or just plain stupid lurcher?
Annmarie09 replied to bobslurchers's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I really wish you lived closer to me, I'd take her off you like a shot. We haven't got the opportunity to work but we go coursing once a month (on the lure...) and we're starting agility at Easter. Maybe a change of job would suit her. If she's driving you mad you might as well find her a good pet home, make sure she goes to someone who understands lurchers are not like other dogs. I'm sure you'll both be happier in the long run! -
I hope the pups aren't fully weaned yet? She will still be in milk so won't be very comfortable racing around yet. You don't want to rush her, remember her ligaments will have gone soft and stretchy for the birth so make sure she has time for them to tighten back up, and fitten her up slowly.

Turning on the deaf ears.
Annmarie09 replied to wuyang's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Salukis are renowned for having painted-on ears! At 9 months I would expect a lot of dogs to behave like that though, they are teenagers by then and how many human teenagers listen to adults?! -
Double check it's not something simple like a small corn or thorn or something on his foot, if he had one on the inside of his foot that would make him try to walk on the outside of it! They can be hard to see so press on his pads all over them and see if you find any tender spots. I fed my lurcher pup bone meal as she was growing so fast, I don't know if it's cheaper than calcium tablets but a tin should last til he's fully grown so might be worth looking into?

Depends on whether the vet amputates the tail or not!
-
Get him castrated, it can develop into a tumour. It happened to my GSD and I was totally bummed out but I didn't get it done til he was about a year old cos my ex-husband didn't want the dog castrated so I had to wait til he was away at sea to do it! When it was done the dog was unzipped from one end to the other, what happens is the outside one gets very large and the inside one can be very small, it can be almost anywhere in the body cavity, and my dog happened to have a VERY small one inside which the vet took some time to find. See your vet, he may say you can wait a bit longer to se
