I know some stallions will only cover mares of a certain colour, the owners have to put a coloured rug on the mare to fool the stallion. Perhaps your dog doesn't like the colour of the bitch? No racist jokes now!

There's a reason why it's hard to find anyone to do it - it's dangerous!

recall help please

She probably expects to be put on the lead, so make sure you take some really exciting food (chicken, cheese) and give her one when she does come. Don't put her on the lead, let her go again. Don't always put her on the lead at the same place each time to go home, they soon wise up to that! The setback was probably due to you grabbing and dragging her, mine hates to be held by the collar for some reason, if I need to hold her for any reason I just slip the lead back on because she panics and drags back on the collar. If you need her to leave another dog or whatever and she really ignore -
Woah, I am quite shocked by how excited some folk have got over this thread! Gap have chosen to treat this pup, I have my own opinions on that same as everyone else does one way or another, but we aren't there and we don't know the exact circumstances, or what advice their vet has given so how can any of us judge? One thing I do know is that Gap do great work and that they cannot use the building fund for vet fees, so there's no point in keeping harping on about that. It is nothing like your own personal bank account. If people have stated on donations that the money is for the buildi

Why would you think about getting a family dog if your missus hates them? It will all end in tears. Don't get a dog unless everyone in the house wants one.

I thought Benzyl Bonzoate had been removed from sale because of stupid Euro laws? We can't get fly repellent for horses with citronella in any more for the same reason. Same problem with sheep dip, we have to inject for scab instead now.

Excellent advice, there is no cure and you will just have to wait for the virus to run its course. Rest, warmth, soft food for the sore throat. If your dog is particularly young or old your vet may prescribe antibiotics to prevent pneumonia, but don't take him in, phone first, leave the dog in the car til the vet says bring him in, don't risk infecting other dogs. I don't know why folk would say give him a painkiller, really it won't make any difference. Are you absolutely sure it's kennel cough? The cough is like a choking fit, rather than a cough. It's horrible to watch but there

Have you checked it didn't go as an echeque? Did the money definitely leave your account? You can do a chargeback.

The testicles can turn to tumours due to excessive heat inside the body, so the dog needs to be castrated. They can usually still sire pups, but the retained testicle problem can be hereditary so it would be unfair on the pups to risk it.

I still have them, it is £15 the three plus £7.50 postage unless you want to collect. I accept paypal, postal order or cheque (cheque will need to clear first) or cash on collection.

Sounds great if it all comes off ok in trials etc I would certainly pay £100 for my dog to have one, to us she is priceless.

A LOT! Really it depends which part of the country you are in, and what is available in your area. Horses are a huge commitment though, they do cost a lot of money just getting the vet to the stables costs us nearly £50 and that's before he even looks at the horse! However, if you're really keen look for livery stables in your area and get some prices which can vary a lot depending on whether you want DIY, part or full livery.

Twice a day, even when they're adults. Sighthounds have small stomachs so little and often is better than one big meal. Just arrange feeding times around when they are likely to be exercised. Make sure you don't exercise the dog for at least 2 hours after feeding, and leave as long as you can after work to feed as well, 2 hours is the best but I leave at least 45 mins to an hour.

I am moving house shortly and have decided that I have read this book enough times! It is a large hardback from Readers Digest 1994. There are a few marks on the covers but the pages are lovely. I would like £5 or near offer, collect from Cardenden, Fife or will post for £3

I am moving house shortly and have decided to move these lovely prints on, they have been on my walls for a lot of years! They are in great condition. I would like £15 for them or near offer. Collect from Cardenden, Fife or can post for £7.50 (weigh just over 2kg packaged). If you are concerned about being ripped off as seems to have happened to some folk recently, please see my ebay account (stubbster22)!

dog walking on lead
Annmarie09 replied to birkychrissy's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Sounds like he's acting like a very young pup not a 5 month old! Try being a bit firmer with him. Talk to him, encourage him. Use a higher pitched voice than usual so he thinks there's something exciting happening. He has to learn to walk on the lead now before he's bigger! There are a surprising amount of dogs around here who only walk when they want, in the direction they want, and it's easier to deal with now while he's small. It doesn't sound like he's nervous or anything, but if you think he might be then that's a whole other problem. Between about 5 months and 2 years is the adoles -
dog walking on lead

Possibly. Watch you don't pull the collar over his head so he can take off! Once they learn that they do it all the time! You could try a harness to see if he likes that better? What does he do when he stops? Just look around, sit down, sniff? 10 minutes seems like a long time, you'd think he would get bored! -

What breed is he? Just interested cos some breeds are more stubborn than others and prone to this sort of thing. As long as he's healthy he's probably just trying you out! -
Think you'll find the kids with the funny names parents were all born in the 's... I agree about the rest though, we're all too paranoid to let our kids out of our sight these days! I remember making our own bows and arrows, making the arrows really sharp, lucky we were mostly bad shots! Also, paper caps and laying them out to run a stone over them. Also holding a magnifying glass (or piece of broken bottle) over your hand when the sun was out to see who could last the longest. I remember begging my mum for a pair of rollerskates for 2 years before I got them, if I remember

Housetraining a pup is hard work for quite a while, but worth it when you crack it! Keep a constant eye on her, gently put her on newspaper (or a puppy pad, but I found pups want to play with them because they are soft like a cuddly toy!) as soon as you see her squat. I started with the paper just inside the living room door as it quite close to my front door. Work the paper closer to the outside door until you have her outside. It is a pain in the a** but the more you work at it the quicker it will be done. LOADS of praise when she does go if you are outside at any time and never sc

Do you give her chocolate any other time? Chocolate can cause dogs to have fits. If she came round quickly after the mars bar it may have been low blood sugar/over exercise (I recommend finding something else to give her though, like glucose tablets, you can dissolve them to make them easier for her to take and quicker to get into her system), or it may have been coincidence that she has come round. She may just be epileptic, in which case your vet can give her drugs to control it to a point. It takes some time to get the dose right though. Even young animals can die during a fit, s

Fingers crossed for her then, good luck!
