  1. Cheers all. That one would have been fun to have around at lambing time
  2. Well spotted Dave, they were a manky light brownish colour. Must've been a heavy smoker Farmer, John, and myself were all happy. Pressure is off now!
  3. Stop being so fcuking lazy then Ric and do your bit, get jiggy
  4. I often have trouble spotting where foxes are entering fields. The land here is very rough. A lot of creeping gorse, rushes, bracken, yellow flag iris, lots of rock, stone walls and water logged land. Just after shooting a problem fox, and I'm disappointed I couldn't find a good spot to snare him. We found some hair on barbed wire where he was going under a fence and set a wire there. Only caught fresh air. I looked around the perimeter of the field he was using the most and found lots of places he could come in but I couldn't say in all honesty there was a fox going in any of them. Mate thoug
  5. Make a cuppa, this is a long one About a month/three weeks ago a farmer visited my mate John and gave him €50. There was panic over a fox that had started killing hens & ducks. John rings me and tells me the craic, no problem, done this type of job lots of times before. Off we go that night, John with his sbs 12ga and me with the .223. It's not a place we've really lamped before, besides the rabbit warrens on the other side of the small valley. The hen house is the opposite side near the sheep shed. There's a small river running through the farm which has waterlogged the place comple
  6. Hi mate ,I wouldn't be without my lithium ion battery pack, they are very expensive though I suppose too expensive for what they are,I would never go back to lugging around the heavy battery again... I don't doubt that they work, or that they're light. As you say, it's the price I object to.
  7. Take it easy lads, I can't take in all this info at once Only got a Yukon Digital Ranger here
  8. I've a Dell Inspiron 9300 for the past five years or so. It's great, never a major problem with it. I'd avoid Acer, HP & Compaq.
  9. Lightforce 170 Striker with dimmer unit.

  11. It's not hard. There are just some rules which need to be observed to lamp effectively with a shotgun. For me, it's by far the most enjoyable shooting there is. The first thing is noise - you're not allowed to make any. As you'll need to get within 40 yards of your fox to shoot him, side on as Foxdropper says is by far and away the best position, 36 gram BB's are an excellent load. Forget about choke, doesn't matter. So, cut off, tape down, repair, replace or reject anything that rattles, rustles, swishs, squeaks or creaks. A windy, dark night is the best for shotgun lamping. A fla
  12. For lads with more money than sense!
  13. Not allowed to do it here in Ireland either. If we were I'd be out with a bow in a heartbeat I've seen a few arrow heads in the flesh, they would do serious serious damage to what they hit. The odd time I've fluffed a shot with the rifle on a fox we've always been able to blood trail him.
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulacht_fiadh You may need a better source on the details than Wikipedia. However, the process does work. An archaeologist told us how colleagues of his tried it and the meat was beautiful. Mind you, they would have said that Let us know how it turns out if you go ahead, and take photos!
  15. Thanks a million for posting that Joe. I was looking for exactly this sort of info about a fortnight ago!
  16. Had AAA's in there because that's what was in my belt. But I prefer BB's, 36gram load.
  17. Niall called over last night. His brother had been biking and saw two foxes in the bog sitting watching him and his mate. One ran off the other didn't seem at all bothered. Grabbed the rifle and shotgun, as it was nice windy and dark and headed for the hill. We called a while on a spot that I've snookered many a fox from but no joy. Decided we'd try a different spot so we headed back to the car along the old bog track. Through the gate and onto the tarmac when I thought I spied a fox beyond the field on the hill. Had a second or two of a call and saw nothing unusual, there was a gr
  18. 12 so far since I started this season. But, to be honest, I'm working too hard and too tired at night to bother right now.
  19. You have as much chance as finding Hitlers mustache. The problem is, fox relatively big, and causes relatively big problems - but not so many foxes. Rabbit, relatively small, there are many many of these. Feeding your (shooting €£$) habit by buying ammunition is what will screw you in this adventure. Compromising by buying two rifles will work out a lot cheaper in the long run.
  20. Dimmer saves power, filter wastes it They have their uses mind you.
  21. Stewie & Sean, my two newest friends in the world
  22. If there is, send them this way. NOM-NOM-NOM!
