  1. GOVERNMENT NOTICE National Parks and Wildlife Service Temporary Closure of Open Hunting Season for Birds The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government has temporarily closed the hunting season for wild birds due to the recent freezing conditions across the State. The Wildlife Act 1976 (Temporary Suspension of Open Season) (No.2) Order 2010 suspends temporarily the hunting of wild birds due to the severity of weather conditions from Wednesday 8 December 2010 up to and including Tuesday 14 December 2010. The species concerned are Mallard, Teal, Gadwall,
  2. Mike Ashley must think he's in direct competition with EastEnders. Away goes the soap opera yet again....
  3. Got mine today, fueled it up, fired it up. All I can say is BUY ONE!!!!
  4. Cheers lads. I reckon those were two of three seen feeding on a sheep carcass that washed ashore. One farm nearby has some dodgy ground near the tide and loose the odd one or three because of it.
  5. I've never seen the Ucaller in action. But, if it were as good or better than the Lightforce in performance we'd all have heard about it by now in those terms. I'll stick with Lightforce.
  6. Nice one Sounder jnr Listening to the commentary, if I closed my eyes that sounds just like the women behind me at last International Rules match I was at
  7. I gave up on clip on lamps for shotguns years ago. I now hold the lamp in my left hand and the shotgun in my right hand. Resting the forend of the shottie on my left forearm, works well
  8. I'm well over on the West coast HW, so we got feck all snow to be honest, so pretty lucky. From my door, the closest I could see snow was about down to 1,000 feet on the mountains. Some parts of Ireland got a bit though, as usual the country ground to a halt Brought a trailer load of lambs to the mart on black ice Saturday, that was fun! Mind you, a dusting of snow to find tracks would have been nice
  9. Boring git, put something on it then and quit yer whinin' Well done Ian and others for getting the site back up again. Am sure it took a lot of work and a few frayed nerves. Good to be back again
  10. Taking the gun out of the safe, connecting the battery I kept repeating to myself "Don't forget the camera in the high viz jacket pocket". Arrived at my Dad's land just as it was getting dark. Parked up at the crossroads and started walking back the path. Just as the church bell in the village across the bay was ringing out the Angelus I saw my fox had been out earlier than I. The eyes appear twice along a boundary fence with the neighbours, and appear to be slowly traveling away from me. Dad had told me a good while back he'd seen scat and tracks. But I'd not been too bothered until n
  11. Finished off a small bracket this evening for the Yukon Ranger to help ambushing lamp shy foxes. More on that in due course  Afterward I decided to check what's going on out on my own farm at night, not something I've done in a while. So I park at my sisters house, get mugged by ewe lambs used to being fed on the way up, talk about spoiled. Usual route through the farm up a piece by the wood, cut across then up on the high hill close in to the stone boundary wall. There's a good frost tonight, no snow on the ground here like in other parts of the country. As I'm almost at the
  12. "Ringring...ringring...." ".....where are you?" "Huh, I'm home?" "he's in jimmys now.... i'm looking right at him" "I'm on my way" "be quick, and be quiet" "Click". Great, now all I have to do is get the hunting wardrobe on, gun, bolt & ammo out of safe, connect battery, find water proofs, put all together and make it to the car without falling down the stairs Two miles later... "I just seen him, down in that sh1thole of a field", accurate description given it's basically a wet hole filled with furze, rushes, reeds, bracken, deep drains, and pretty m
  13. If you're not selling them, and if it's ok with Ian, would you mind taking some photos next time you make one, if that were to happen? I wouldn't mind giving one a go
  14. That's a real tidy looking trap you've made Logun, well done, good effort
  15. I average just over 40 foxes per year, say from end of September to May sometime (lambing is late here). Least I've gotten in a year is 35, most is 55. I think I may get more than that this year as we're nearly always guaranteed 20ish at lambing. Bottled it tonight myself, was going to go out and mess about with the Yukon Ranger, but I can't find the top of the tripod anywhere.
  16. No snow here locally, but there was an advanced driving instructor on the radio earlier, was very funny. Apparently in the east of the country there are Eskimos driving Igloos around, and a few submarine commanders as well
  17. Jaysus Snap, you're missing nothing out there, it's like stepping into a freezer getting out of the car
  18. Was talking to John earlier on and we decided to head out for an hour tonight. Up the end of the valley again and saw a lamp shy bugger right at the start. Off he zoomed up the ridge and up the side of the mountain, goodbye, good night and good luck. I brought along my Yukon ranger to test out the new 2x lens I got to replace the 5x lens. Only one problem, the inbuilt IR source - which is quite good in itself - wasn't designed for that magnification. So, it was like looking into a big black rectangle with a green circle in the middle of it Not to worry, I'm going to fashion some sort
  19. I suppose the Scandinavian and other cold countries are guaranteed snow each year while I don't think this part of the world is, so they invest and plan on that basis. Heard from one of the council lads here that they'd just purchased a new gritter, then got a call from the County Council yesterday that no gritting was to be done as there was no money to pay them, and to take time off equal to the over time pay they'd already received. Good planning there
  20. It'd be like leaving a wet cloth on your rifle, you wouldn't do it. The camo wrap which clings onto itself. If you're thinking of using it I would think you should remove it after each outing and completely dry and protectively oil your rifle. It can be washed and dried, but leaving it on is asking for trouble 100%.
  21. On my nightforce I know the parrallax settings for 100, 200, & 300 yards, much farther than that and I'm not interested. Usually leave it at 8x for say 230 yards, beyond that I crank it up until I'm happy with what I'm seeing. Not sure that I've ever gone beyond 16x for taking a shot, often gone farther to check something out, but too wobbly for shooting then. A 4-16x56 scope would be good.
  22. Yup, that's the way they work. The only thing you can't do is put a blitz reflector on a scope mounting arm and expect it to clip on, the reflector housing is too big for that job.
  23. Not 100% sure what you're asking but... The threading on all size reflector housings will fit both hand held and scope mounted arms. The beam itself is affected by a number of things. How far the prongs on the bulb are pushed into the arm socket, the filament in the bulb (tightly coiled filament which is vertical will give a better rounder spot - as in the filament is going in the same direction as the two prongs on the bulb. Where as a horizontal filament, one that goes perpendiculat to the two prongs will give you a more oval spot. Also, the reflector housing can be turned clockwise
