i keep mine in the house mate (keep them wormed, flead etc and be prepared to hoover twice a day, mucky sofa, paws all over the tiles) as i find the bond stronger. labs are normall very easy dogs to have around you, sometimes a bit "clingy" colour is not as important as that the dog is from working lines. i would love to hear what you decide and see some pics of the dog. cheers waidmann

the ban being lifted for mounted packs alone i find unlikely. what of the foot packs who are very effective in fox controll? if iy is humane to kill a fox with hounds how can it not be humane to kill it with a lurcher?(the same for the hare). as long as the people who vote suffer from "bambi syndrome" all hunting will be messed about with by organisations who have not the foggyest what they are talking about and humanise the quarry to appeal to the "disney minded public", who are quite able to oversee the hell that most animals bred on an industrial scale go through untill they get to the s

would you switch from gun to lurcher?

i have a bullx too which is still a pup. the plan is to take him everywhere(as with the terrier). often we are out rabbiting an come across the red ones, some drop dead and some run on to die its those i would have the dog bring to a quicker end and retrieve.the terrier is very keen to do the same but limited in size it happens when bolting them too, theycan roll and run on(nothing more enfuryating is there?). a quick dog will catch or bring to ground again where he can be dug to and dispatched humanely. a good dog helps alot imho. -
i wish one of my mates would split up with his mrs( i don't care which as long as he has lots of gear and nowhere to keep it )

why not use both? -
i waited patiently for a long time untill i called them,it turned out something was missing give them a bell bud, they are ok to talk to and mostly very helpfull. good luck, waidmann

great pics and a good do by the looks of it they call those marderhunde in germany(martin dogs) they are not so widespread there yet but on the advance. apparently they will not bolt and do not see the dog as a real threat(untill its too late that is ) what are your experiances with them? thay are very heavy toward winter(up to a third heavier than the summer weight) and apparently it is all fat. this is the some of the stuff that i have heard/read so i would be glad of your oppinion. a good set of working dogs(all looking fit and handy ) good thread, thanks waidmann

any terrier that works to ground should have a good nose(they are all bred for finding in the dark, they don't do that by ear ). the problem is rarely that the dogs are nose deaf, but that they have not learned to use them above ground(we would not know ifhe uses it below),and therefore down to training and experiance. teckel will(from working lines, you may have the odd failiure)all work above and below and have the advantage that they are the smallest hound and not a terrier.(take a look at teckel ears). i would venture to say that MOST terriers are more than capable of using their noses

i'm not a fan of doggy jackets either mate(unless a medical reason,or extreme temp for a long period,in which case my dogs lie on my gunslip and a sandbag.if its very bad under a jacket ) i must say that is a very good looking terrier though i hope he does what you want of him mate. i'm all for taking the dogs wherever i go,fishing, walking, car boot sales if it gets them out and steadys their nerves to people and commotion it canty be bad they are mostly in the car too if i go somewhere. good lookig dog how big will he get do you think? waidmann -
no bud the post was not aimed specificly at you. the post was aimed at those who spend their time offering insults with little or no input to the thread(if you feel you belong to that group then it was also aimed at you). i have no intention of "reporting" anyone for anything unless this kind of abuse and bullying is aimed at me,its up to everyone to decide whether they find it appropriate or not for themselves. waidmann p.s. that a dog can overcome a raccoon is not in question.whether it is necessary to let the dog take more stick above the ground than needs be. i would say no it is

no mate it does not a difference in opinion can only be a good thing.then we can learn from experiance of others bu we must have a mind open to them,THEN we can form our own conclusions as to whether we can use it,learn from it or disregard it as utter bull@@@@. as has been said before there are more than one way to skin a cat. if YOU are happy with the way YOUR terriers work and get the result YOU want then all is well.who am i or anyone else to say its wrong? what i can say is that I find it "unsporting" or that I would do it differently(preferably without calling the other a "knob","di

would it be possible to start a poll?? who has worked raccoon on how many occasions? only then can we see who is in ant way qualified to give an oppinion on THIS case. as for ANY quarry should be worked one on one, what quarry are we talking about? badger? pigs? puma? mountain lion? there are some things we know NOTHING about and so cannot apply our PRINCIPLES AND STANDARDS to. i for one have worked more than one terrier in very big badger earths(25-30 tubes) where foxes regularly hole up and give a single dog the run around for hours, add another terrier and the fox will bolt.these are

well done. this happens more often than people think, rarely that both are killed.when the sounder moves in tight to feed its often difficult to get a clear shot. in this case it went well, often shots through the tubular bone, snout and soft shots(belly) are the result. its worth spending a couple of minutes obseverving the sounder before the shot and another couple examining the "flight" trail of the sounder(preferably with the dog on a long lead) during the daytime afterwards. that will give injured pigs time to get sick and or die. from a trailingpoint of view its always worth checking th

to be honest(and i know thats not what you are asking) i would not combine the two. if one breaks or needs upgrading you have to buy "both". i find a combination is mostly a compromise (micrwave and grill type thing). i beleive bushnell do a combi,it might be an idea to put a rough price guide for the following posts bud. atb

we have had to wait a few days(and ruined chainsaws trying to get him) away from raccoons and badgers, untill now all steady dogs on all quarry.just one gear and its forwards they can take some stick(as most well bred terriers will and should). waidmann

I've hunted Boar in the USA (Tennessee), concensus is that a '30 calibre is the nominal minimum, but really when forrest hunting like we were, any reasonably powerful centrefire will do, you are usually taking the shot from less than 100 yards, more like 50 or 60 in my experience. I used a 7mm Remington Magnum Ruger, and the Boars I shot didn't go far post shot, my mate had a 30-30 Marlin lever action and that also nailed the porkers without trouble. The 'locals' however don't mess about with 'fancy rifles like us visitors, they jusy get their dogs to 'bay' i.e. corner a pig then they shoot

over opinionated people on this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
waidmann replied to cooper101's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
bang on i think the problem is more that some are incapable(mentally) of grasping that others have a different style, expectation of their dog. even if that be the case its the rudeness that can get on your wick.of the ones who would be old enough to be allowed access to a pub how many would talk to others in the way they do on here? annominuity makes them very couragous and big mouthed. i have no problem with taking the views of others into account(if i did i would not have asked a question on an open forum)but the knobs who just want to cause an argument( mostly nowt to do with the topic i -
spot on you can get 20-30(and more) a day in these things( check at night,at £1 wach its worth it ) you will need a calling bird( mark it with wire on one leg so you can identify it when dispatching the unwanted birds.some call well, some don't)which will speed up the catching if making them yourself knock it up so that you can trasport it(in sections) and you can take it from one farm to the next.put a lock on the door so no one can let them go(farmers take them out so they won't have topay you so much ). good to see some capitalistic thinking good luck waidmann

nice pics had the dog killed the fox to ground?( i doubt it died of natural causes ). i like the black and tan dog any more of that terrier?
-
i have worked teckel, prt, bloodhounds and all kinds of hpr with jagds and had no problems as all of the dogs were well socialised working dogs(who SHOULD have solid nerves which making them steady to distractions). i know of no breed that will not tolerate other breeds if brought up correctly. all dogs need watching.if i had a pack of yorkshire terrier i woul not leave them alone around food etc. all of the mystery around the jagd terrier is somewhat confusing to me,its a working bred dog with a good prey drive.bred from fox terriersxmanchester terriers and some other breeds after the

i have a cz style in .22lr(stainless synthetic 16 inch barrel) and can only fault the trigger. its getting done as soon as i can get it to mike norris who will stone the parts and service/polish for £35. that would be my choice.

bought him off a bloke at the game fair

i was asked when i took mine for his jabs by the vet(no micro chip=not legally docked) if i had the address for the breeder, i told him i may have and asked why. his reply was "he should be reported". i told him i would never have bought the dog WITH a tail and he just shrugged and did his job. its a bit stupid really, wanting to castrate everthing that moves but not willing to dock a tail??
