  1. most of my deer have also been shot at or under 100m.as this is a distance i'm happy with. i know of a fair few who are "happy" to shoot much further( and i have followed up on some apalling shots from them too ). range work is a good indication of your capability with the rifle but shooting game is as we all know different(exact range, uneven ground/rest and excitement).i am also not having a pop and am very pleased that you brought a clean shot on,i would just like to poi t out to those who do not have as much experiance/practice that these shots are not the norm for most of us and that
  2. you do get teckel that are "big in the chest" as with alot of terrier breeds. most are bred to standard(spanable) and will work individually ( not just in pack.this is a part of the trials for breeding selection and so not breed typical) on all game/vermin. as i have said before they are the smallest hounds limited only by short legs( bred down to slow the chase of deer and boar). i'm afraid i don't know anyone who breeds them in the uk you could try "teckelclub1888e.v." (german teckel club e-mail address). atb waidmann
  3. as above. they are bred for earth work( although a veru versatile dog above ground too). as with any breed get one from working stock. they can be very hard dogs(again depending on breeding). atb
  4. a good looking dog, how old is he?
  5. good advice from hannah, softly softly approach will work imo. i had a terrier bitch who was the same(the mrs loved her and so kept her,she was tiny and very submissive/sensitive) i never worked or tried to train her,the girlfriend did everything. i was living on a farm at the time and noticed her ratting with the others, fast as hell and really good. next time i went checking the barns for polecats and martins i took her with me,she could fit every where and bolted 2 martins alone.next time out she killed a polecat( yes she stank to high heaven).she was around 12 months by now. i took her on
  6. lee can get a motor which you would have to slow down.
  7. no shortage of sport on here ned brilliant! i'm all for the video mate michael.
  8. spend what you can afford( or a bit over if the missus isn't looking ) and get what suits your shooting. all the best and let us know what you decide on and the pics of its effects waidmann
  9. i mat have a 17 hmr american stock to sell, if interested pm me. thanks
  10. try "owenowen" on here he had one for sale a while back.as far as i know he still has it(korum day shelter).
  11. earth work is not limited to digging( bolting to gun is some mens sport and the most effective/efficiant method of controlling fox to ground). as above i prefer a dog who will take hold if necessary but is more a bayer than a mixer, and to heave the sense to know which end has less teeth . i have no problem with dogs leaving the earth IF its to refind and harrass/different angle of attack(flyer), i find most foxes will bolt in a reasonable time( between 30 sec and an hour, depending on the earths size and stealth of the guns)the guns being the main factor in my experiance, coughers, telephon
  12. either will do the job(just make sure its from working stock). i am happy with a prt,i'm sure others are happy with their pats, lakie, plummers etc. i'd go for a russel bud. atb
  13. looks to be about 50kg? i have had one or two dogs who think they are "alfa". but they wereALOT SMALLER (one was a lab/gsp/bgs). good pic of the dog atb michael.
  14. nice one when you say "arrogant with me" i take it you mean the dog? do the line tend to be headstrong like that? or is he more of an exception?just trying it on while settling i guess. a decent sized sow there for him,get him back into the swing of it atb, michael
  15. the advantage of a fixed mag scope is the light transmission being higher by say 8x 56 than of a variable scope on the same setting. only relevant for night time shooting without a lamp really. just thought i would add that for anyone who did not know. more versatile is the variable imho. atb
  16. on the river chub ponds bream i love to eat eels so they are pretty high up too. tight lines.
  17. good to read some positive dog stories well done both, hope the dog does you proud
  18. good looking terrier mate must have felt good to see god how many dogs run on and your bitch "marks and finds" i found three dug out earths today( new ones)no one home. 30m apart on the hedge adjacent were a dog and then a vixen lying in the brambles, the terrier couldn't get at them due to the mesh fence, my dad couldn't get a shot off at either(the other side of the fence is an airfield). i'll see about them when the weather is not so good( when they are home). good job done lads.
  19. just bear in mind that rabbit are sensitive to movement from above( prey species mostly are). certainly a good idea for rimfire/hmr shooters high seats can be made quite cheaply and are more comfy than the wet ground( if making the seat open make sure the seat itself flips up,this will keep it dry) i would love to hear how you get on. atb michael
  20. if you are worried about the dog going to ground and having to dig him out then yes. is he intrested in fox yet? in which case definately with a collar. i believe the mk1 collar can be picked up with the mk3 box and may be cheaper to get hold of. atb
  21. there is a "parkerising" paint( the military use it on the sa80). there are also touch up blueing pens for sale( never used one myself). atb
  22. looks a cracker atb with her.
  23. i use a u/v/j or just a clump of brids when the others wont work. bouncers i put in lee of the pattern facing the wind( as a pigeon would land). i have made lofting hooks which i put facing the pattern of as many deeks as i have(currently 30) plus dead birds. if using a u/j/v then put the lead bird into the wind( i will normally put a few birds "sideways on" but not with their backs to the wind( never see pigeon getting ruffled by the wind). lord knows i'm no expert but rarely blank its all trial and error at the end of the day bud. if birds shy or jink then something is wrong in the p
