good way to knock them over , mine run behind with the doors open when i stop they jump in the back whats the point in letting the dog set the pace your trying to get them fit not taking them out for walkies. the point being that if you drive away from your dog you cannot see in front and behind therefore NOT paying attention to the road OR the dog. when getting a dog fit you will surely not want to be doing 20mph on a road would you?i'm presuming you are going for distance work and not maximum speed(which when running behind you on a road would mean on tarmac/hard surface?) only w

lamping on a full moon...why not?
waidmann replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
full moon is great if you are going to sit in cover and call butnot so hot when walking the fields imo we went out last night and it was clear as a bell with no wind, shot one rabbit. going out on thurs night and hoping for some wind at least, better some cloud and wind. mostly i will go out even if the prospects are not so good(snow/frost etc) as it does the dogs good and you never know you might be lucky. better than watching lost or some such rubbish which does not interest me any day waidmann -

no mate that farmer bought a collie for the sheep and ran it in front of the car to wear him out before work the next time he was without the dog and had run it over, but he was ok. i think john craven should be at best run on a lead at the same pace as a pure whippet for three hours( choker) and then shown what coursing with rottweiler means he is a misinformed tart.

i'm no expert mate, who told you the make up/breeding? do you have any reason not to beleive it? when you say taken a fox i presume you mean "retrieved" it after being shot? otherwise (if in england) it would be illegal. atb waidmann

i find it a good way to get a dog fit if you are not capable(physicly/time wise)to do it any other way(bike or working). the idea of running a dog on the lead from a car is beyond me. what if the dog pulls up(strain, pain, foot problem.....................)? the dog should run in front of the car(setting its own pace) and at a reasonable distance that you can stop the car fully should need be. i know people who run gundogs before work for 10 min in exactly this way but have never done it myself as i have heard enough stories of dogs being hit/run over(the bloke on countryfile did his collie som

this seems to be misplaced agression. i take it she was brought up with other dogs? has she seen a shot fox? this would be the first thing i would get her on. get her running concrete pipes through and or small earths. mine self entered at the we whil bushing.he bumped a fox in the brambles and chased to ground (prt 10 1/2 months)he has been going to ground for a while but not found(luckily)but did ok and bolted the fox again. try to get a digging dog to show her if at all possible good luck waidmann

bang on sadly WE are the only ones who can promote the newcomers into the sport(i do as much as i can with youngsters and family members, giving them bits and bobs of what i catch and wakening an interest in hwta it is and where it comes from etc) there is a risk to taking anyone out with you, alot of people i won't even tell where my permission is (had one last year who wanted "to ask the farmer if he could go alone" disrespectfull to me after taking him out 4-5 times as he had a .22lr and no permission.he never came again ) i agree totally with the mentoring idea above(and find that a g

i'm sorry to say the dennis menace thing still has me tickled

Wrong. There are very few circumstances in which a dog can be shot. See previous posts. you forgot to add the two points which would mean it probably was not justifiable force.

i can see that someone who " loves hunting with dogs" has seen a propaganda video and been swayed things do go wrong(dogs getting run over, set alight etc etc) but that is the view they take,"this is the norm" we all know its not. the controll of foxes with dogs is as necessary as the catching of rabbit with them.for the good of the countryside and ALL animals that live in it,especially the ground nesting birds(of which the pheasant is only one). we need to stand for that and not bicker among ourselves. waidmann

i like the st. huberts cross

the same happens with roe deer( for 4 and a half months) and badger so its quite possible. i have not read that the hare does this. atb

the brown hare (lepus europaeus)starts its season end of december and has a gestation of 43 days,it will then set one to four young. fully haired. they will be suckeled once a day for four weeks. the hare has something special superfoetaion. after the 36 day of pregnancy she can be mated again and become pregnant while the first litter is still unborn. magic waidmann

thats the way mate, tell them to ingore him for the first few min. i have found that bitches seem to do this for longer( just my experiance, not a hard and fast rule). i had a russel bitch who would pee alll over a mate of mine every time she saw him, over six months. he would always talk to her in his best girly/squeaky voice an she would dive on him and he would get wet his own fault as i often pointed out. she would only go mad on him.

it was in the ad part on my home page.a pic of a lurcher(brown and white). as i said i have deleted it from mine and so cannot see it there anymore.a few friends have seen it and "support the cause" even the bunny hugging aunties and nieces see the point of sporting/pest controll dogs( i told them they get no ducks from me if they don't ). atb

i think the army have always used them for that bud(shooting off the hinges and not the locks). they use non "lethal baton" guns too( the heavy loads for doors the lighter loads for dispersal). handy bits of kit both
