I think (in reference to your spear fishing comment) it would feel no more pain than a fallow when you shot it. In nature, anything killing or catching anything else will involve pain.....after all pain is designed to look after you and that must include not being killed or wounded.

I hear you mate, although I always look at the sire I do think it’s relied on too much......as in, folks may want a big 28 inch stamp of dog and bring in a male of that stamp but breed it to a small bitch. Imho that makes no sense, you may as well look for everything you want in both dogs to improve your chances (but that’s all very backyard and non scientific) The science is out there to make it happen (because they do it with beef cattle all the time) but obviously your backyard dog breeder isn’t going to access that type of science......it’s all “on the back of a fag packet” type

Depends on the strength of the genetic line, it may be more powerful in the women for some reason.

I have always looked at the sire in dogs and picked a male pup if possible......however the final result is locked away in the blood and most breeding is trying to give the best chances by bringing together the best examples and then hoping for the best. A male that throws good offspring from one good bitch may throw absolute shite from another good bitch......that bit is out of your hands. You see “most powerful male” natural selection in nature all the time.

The lateral line would be a much more sensitive organ than the mouth, but I think we are humanising “pain” and I dont believe fish feel in that way......they just couldn’t function in their environment if they did.

Fish I know a little bit about. You have to think of a fishes mouth like your fingers, it’s the fish equivalent of your hand. They use the mouth to touch and explore. The mouth can detect resistance (from say a baited line) and it also feels the prick of a hook (which is what many anglers rely on for efficient terminal rigs in static bait fishing) However, the mouth is also a pretty hardy tool in as much as it can deal with sucking up gravel etc........it’s like the hard hand of a bloke who has done hard manual labour all his life, tough but still sensitive to stimulus.

Blimey ! That escalated quickly......so before I get drawn into something that’s none of my business let me just make a couple of things clear: The only thing I’m into flattening these days is my dinner ! And nothing Max has ever said to me would make me feel angry in that way towards the bloke and I’m sure he feels exactly the same. My view on Brexit has been changing slightly over the last couple of months. Now the EU is a shit organisation and they are definitely going to a very sinister place with all this empire building, it also has a distinctly anti democracy agenda on many issues.......however I think the last 3 years have shown us things that we didn’t know before and, it seems, many still can’t grasp.......namely that a massive amount of our daily problems were the fault of the politicians we kept electing to our own parliament, they simply hid behind the EU. That’s true, no offence, but anyone that says any dog never mind dog with aggression in their blood is 100% is not thinking right........they may be 100% SO FAR but that’s no guarantee of anything. I seen a couple of red noses for sale the other day and for a moment went “Ohh” then right away I think how I have a 6 year old plus other kids and I just wouldn’t even entertain it. I just wouldnt want a dog that requires so much thought and planning every day anyway.

Fair play to him, personally I have never heard of the bloke. Takes some bottle to get in the ring with fighters of that calibre but that video there still wasn’t a real fight was it.

I get you mate, for a pure spectator like me then it’s a gutsy scrapper every time......but I’m sure to lads who have boxed and know about the sport then it’s different. I always liked the Mexicans because you knew you were in for a good, hard scrap of a fight. Personally I want to see a good bit of good old fashioned thuggish aggression........I dont really want to have the pants bored off me by lads who seem more interested in body building than hurting the other bloke. One of the reasons I dont watch boxing any more.

I don’t think anyone would say he was a legend but he was certainly a very hard fighter with a massive heart.....a real old pit dog of a fighter. Give me your Nigel Benn over a Tyson Fury any day of the week.

I think you are forgetting what good, hard fighters the blokes you mention were......there’s f**k all shame in loosing to any of those fighters there mate Edited to add: If you remember, every one of those fights was a bloodbath.

You ain’t suggesting that was in any way a serious fight are you ?........they was obviously just messing for an exhibition. Everybody who has ever watched boxing knows that “Dave” would have been on his way to intensive care in a real fight. Nigel is a street lad, you can’t take that out of a bloke. I have no doubt he knows exactly what he is doing and any opponent will be chosen appropriately. Even at 55 I wouldn’t want to be the man having to fight Nigel Benn, he is and always was a serious article. Anyway, good luck to him......I hope he makes a shit load of money.

Is it something you have had a go at yourself mate?......with most sport age will catch upto you, god knows it has with me at football but it seems arm wrestling don’t really have age barriers and is something competitive blokes can carry on doing whatever their age?
