He’s a funny dude mate, I like his chat show in the telly where he doesn’t know who’s coming on……it’s really interesting and he talks to people like a normal bloke. Also, love his character in Derry girls, he is brilliant.

The SA80 levelled up ammunition use, it made better logistical sense to use a 5.56 like our American allies rather than a 7.62 that could knock down a buffalo at 900 m ! Also, smaller I’m guessing and maybe lighter.

No mate, it wasn’t. The Argentines had much superior kit, boots being the main thing. All their kit was American but the boots were more like those German alpine jobs from memory.

When you keep in mind our kit was utter dogshit too, The Falklands was a turning point for personal kit….boots being the big one.

I watched every second of footage from that war as it was broadcast when I was a kid, my over riding memory is them taking lads off the Sir Galahad and a lad being brought ashore on a stretcher holding his leg with the bottom half missing in one hand, and a fag in the other like he had just twisted his ankle in a game of football. It just filled me with pride as a little lad to be born of a nation that bred men like that ! The other thing is that @THE STIFFMEISTER is the military equivalent of Simon Westerns eyebrows ! MIA ! Lol ?

That’s a tidy idea on river banks mate, as you say it can get a bit treacherous. Was never a fan of “built” swims on still waters, preferred things left alone myself but for river banks that’s a great job ?

I can only echo what Dido said mate, that’s how I lived my life upto the point I upped sticks and f****d off……I won’t bother to list it, I have written about it many times. I don’t care that they are rich, I don’t begrudge them one penny…..out of all the stuff the public pay for that institution and it’s inherent connection with our history is well worth paying for. But when I read what Dido wrote I can only find myself agreeing with him. Nobody took our side, maybe Enoch Powell and they destroyed him for it, but other than him, nobody ! It’s a fact.

Great post mate, I was always a massive supporter of the royal family because it was something to cling on to. Thinking about it now, that probably died with old Phil. Everything you say is true when you look at it in the cold light of day, there’s just no getting round it.

Probably Times most iconic cover ever, so I wondered, when was this released……April 1966…….then I looked up Whitman, August 1966 ! You have to understand what a big deal it was to publish that cover in America……after this, the world exploded. The end of the innocence ?…….when everything became OK ? Makes me think anyway.

Don’t know about you mate but I always find it a bit amusing when the “mental” illness thing is brought up when someone go’s on a rampage…..of course they are mentally ill, normal people don’t go round killing innocent people for no reason ! Lol But, it sort of brings us full circle really, is it the mind or the gun ?

I don’t know mate, I know of him but I have never read any detail on him. I have read a fair bit on the like of Kemper and people like him but nothing really on spree or single incident mass killers ?

I understand that mate and I fully take your point ? However, I still just think we are talking about numbers when in reality we should be talking about why ? The U.K. with all its gun laws (which I happen to think it actually gets just about right) still has mass killings, maybe not in the same numbers but it still has them and they have not all been terror related.
