  1. Great price John i bought a couple of boxes .22-250 Normas sps today £32.00 a box they were all I could get my hands on. Definatetley have a look for a ppu supplier Went and picked the other 100 from the same batch from the shop yesterday £50. Also some more 6.5x55 156gr RN SP.which were different batch checked them same zero and 3/4 inch group at 100m's Also had 1 shot at small peice of chalk at 274 m's rangefinder said allow 43cm drop corrected aim and bang TALC.
  2. We have had chicory game crops now in the third year and never had as many deer they love it as do hares and rabbits.
  3. I can see your point on steadiness but recoil on a HMR??? But if free hand shooting for longer periods heavier means more fatigue and less steadiness.
  4. A sporter would have been just as pointable so other than looks NO advantage(looks is in the eye of the beholder). NOT a dig an observation regarding the thread.
  5. Following a thread on another site a chap cannot get his varmint HMR to shoot. I have a HMR an ansultz t/hole sporter, deadly accurate and it never gets enough through the barrel to even warm it up (2-3000 rabbits a year). Other then someone liking the feel of a heavy profile balance of a rifle why would anyone want to lug the extra weight around?? A .17 hole in a sporter barrel has as much steel around it as a .308 heavy barrel which is alot. So the question was in the title why and what advantage do you think it gives you, I have seen probably 12-15 sporters from ansultz savage ruger mar
  6. Well I've been a fan of both 6.5 x55 loads i have tried (139+156sp's) in 3 rifles usually grouping under an inch at 100m's. Tried some 55 gr/sp's in the 22 250 and what can i say 1/4 inch group and have shot it out to 400yards. Excellent stuff and I got it at a tenner a box. Rang my supplier up and put another 100 away.
  7. Back / palm of my hand NOWT job done. Nearly 2,000 foxes now to my own rifle.
  8. Well for what a second hand bolt action .22lr costs I'd keep the mag and buy a lr also. You will have enough gun to cover any small game situation then.
  9. An example T.T we submitted a head last summer un-cut and it was a high bronze scoring 1.7 points below a silver. We than cut the head to a long nose and mounted it. On discussion we decided it was so close that it might if remeasured else where scrape through as a silver. When it was measured it went below bronze scoring 98.something A flaw in the system somewhere.
  10. Not had many "true" bouncers think most hear fragments of the broken bullets. BUT the 20gr Gamepoints are definatly harder and sound off more. If you shoot into an empty plastic spray barrel and look on the exit side you can see even on that the bullets have broken up are are in bits so a strike on the ground or bunny will promote expansion with the VMax anyway.
  11. this post would have been alot easier to comment on if you put WHAT you were intending to shoot and WHERE. All rimfires are great but they vary enough that only 1 will be right in any 1 circumstance. If you clarified your question our answers would be more relevent to your situation. Regards John.
  12. Sorry about the quality of this one left the camera on the coffee table this was off my well used phone. I love German glass and finnish rifles. just selling my leica duovids on ebay i now have some zeiss f.l.'s10X42's My ansutz HMR wears a Kahles(austrian)2.2-9X42 (sharp optics) X2 sako's and a Tikka dlx. wearing X2 zeiss 3-12X56 V+varipoint and a 3-12X50 S+B.
  13. took my other sako a 22250 tonight she wears a new Zeiss varipoint 3-12X56 I.R. shot 2 more cubs from the litter 10.02 +10.08 p.m. A proper fox outfit.
  14. Wouldn't have been my first choice of gun and calibre/bullet. My 6.5x55 finlite with privi 139's SP zeroed at 140m's but had been getting a zero fixed with the mod on and its what ihad with me. Luckily its fitted with a 3-12X50 schmidt.
  15. +1 here If the head is a possible DO NOT CUT IT AT ALL till after its measured.
  16. Well while waiting tonight for a cub I saw going into a rape field the other morning, i had just about given up. It was almost dark and I could no longer make out the many rabbits running around with my naked eye, when a movement caught my attention in the hedge line. Swinging onto it with my Zeiss FL's I quickly made out it was an OTTER never seen one on the shoot before and he cleared the field in no time holding his tail high like a rat. I then scanned back to where he had come from, another I thought to my self but then could clearly see those triangle ears sticking up. I g
  17. lovely photos well done...
  18. I use these a mate makes them could sell dozens to clients. Light strong adjustable quiet and quick in use. OUTSTANDING. Made from carp fishing bank poles i think.
  19. Yes well done T>T. The prickets can turn up anywhere at this time of year most in the rape and beans around here but they are always looking for a quick leg over when the big bucks are busy fraying or chasing off another buck. So watch your does as the rut develops the bucks in evey shape and size will not be to far away.
  20. They should be very red now and for the next few months its the colour they are in the summer. You should maybe have another recon or 2 before you shoot any deer and just assess what there is. Or at best just shoot any prickets you come accross, seems a little unfair to shoot your big bucks 3 weeks short of the rut.
  21. +1 I have seen the leather ones and have seen them shot through they are no good in a roe situation usually no time. Electrical tape seems the most popular.
  22. I put up a new seat day before yesterday a free stander. The views.
  23. Looks a nice heavy buck that well done. The bucks up here are very secretive now all bulking up for the coming rut. Saying that had 1 in a clients sights this morning and I stopped it as it emerged from cover at 50m's and no bang his saftey was still on the buck twigged us and he was off. He will have to wait for the rut as had a cancellation tonight and thats me done now till the 15th july, I'm rearing poults. Though i'm away this week after munties for an evening and to sort out expanding my permissions out of county
  24. Nice one fella, if you shy of the plastic points you will find less meat damage. Just a thought.
