pup is all in her head, instinct (fear), she is only eating when she is really hungry, she hasn't settled down yet with you and is still functioning on instinct, petting and fussing only make matters worse, its adding energy to a situation which has shaky foundations, no fussing , hand feed if you can , its the environment she is having the problem with not the food, check with the breeder see if she ate or not, i bet she did, let her make all the approaches, dont pick her up or molly coddle her , she will come good when she settles down , shes just a little stressed and like a lot of

good post, the game is so much more than egotistical babble that goes on today, some of the best hunting i ever had was with a gang of Welsh lads who came over every year to do a bit of hunting, to be honest i haven't a clue what they're dogs were like because it just wasn't important, we were just like minded folk enjoying each others company and having the craic,

Gunner nelson, great ground game , be interested to see how far he goes, used to train in Dublin, think he had J kavanagh from SBG in his corner,

Following on from another thread on here, has anyone ever felt they gave their dogs too much work, if so how did it reflect in the dog, how did it show the effects, anyone ever had a dog refused to run bunnies, i can understand an unfit dog blowing up, but has anyone ever sickened a dog by over work,

once the pup is warm and safe he's fine, anything else is just causing more of a problem a clingy pup is a destructive one when left on its own,

what age is best to start working my dog
Casso replied to whippet21's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
im not big into the watching another dog lark, causes too much excitement in a pup, dog dont need to be trained to chase, he needs to be focused on you, how ya do that while another mutt is running round is beyond me, the biggest recommendation i would look for in a pup starting is that he believes the sun shines out of your ass, everything will fall into place after that, the age thing wouldn't be my major concern, the relationship is more important, too many mutts on here wont come back when lamp's knocked off etc, get the bond right first and it knocks a lot of possible problems out be -
dont play with the pup in the house, think about it, the house becomes a play area in the pups mind, and when in the crate he is missing out, like bringing a runner ferreting and leaving him in a crate beside us, he rip the f**king thing apart, same mindset bud, Outside play/ inside rest, cuts out all the bullshit, dogs get used to coming in and chilling out because they wont develop a physical memory of play indoors, make the crate a positive, feed in the crate, and no attention in the house , best of luck

for me tug play is a form of connection that is most basic and natural to the canine, pups are programmed from a few weeks old to make contact in this form and quickly learn biting hard in the nest is a no no, so they find items to tug between themselves, from there on all of a canines quest will begin through a different form scent , in a hound or sight in a runner but all have the same goal in mind and that is to mouth something, if a dog doesn't like to bite then it needs to bite, letting a dog express its natural inclinations in a stimulated environment like tug play , cuts out most

Very true, still very warm for hard work, fields full of stock, many years ago the older countrymen never got serious till after the first frost, nowadays seems it all about a calender date and not a feel for what the countryside is telling us

look at that landscape, what could be better than been out with your dog in a place like that, perfect combination,

fear is instinctive behavior, what i would do is get her to exhibit desire for an object that stimulates drive , the reason for this is that a dog cant hold on to two feelings at the same time, one will prevale, when a dog is in drive everything in is environment becomes part of that good feeling , ball play and tug items stimulate drive , i like to introduce large animals to a pup when in a drive mindset that way she cant act instinctively (fear based) i dont stock break in the traditional way, i like to have a handle on the pup first, ball play tug play whatever always first, becaus

when did he start bud, can ya remember roughly what stage of development he was at, how often is he out , the reason i ask is because dogs can exhibit all sorts of behavior not generally related to the issue at hand, eg the lifting of a hind leg while walking show by many Russels which is down to a physical memory from long before and not a present injury,

she's very young, if she was having interaction with you but has now stopped i would gamble its a relationship issue , pups dont suddenly decide we dont interest them anymore something else has been thrown into the mix, work on the relationship, build trust, dont confront or disciple, manage her

if a dog doesn't love to bite, then he needs to bite walking is fine for keeping fit but it does n;t negate the thousands of years of evolution in the mutt which has programmed him to achieve a goal in whatever form on a regular basis, its the sense of achievement through using its Drive to overcome resistance that satisfies the tension(stress) in every dog, if we really look at dogs , they are forever trying to achieve something in whatever form that may take and in most cases it ends with them getting their jaws around something, the tug item is a quick fix to achieve the same goal

the bitch feels extra energized and attracted to other canines dog or bitch when in season, watching a young dog and bitch trying to mate can be a real comedy of errors, they feel attracted to each other but cant quite figure out how to plug in , she feels energized in her lower regions but doesn't know how to resolve it, any port in a storm ,

get the mutt on a tug item, put a long lead on the staff, get her tugging on the item and when she pulling really hard let the mutt win, reel her in and repeat for ten minutes, the winning gives the dog a sense of achievement and a way of overcoming resistance in its daily life, if you think about it dogs in the wild are meant to overcome huge resistance on a regular basis, wolves in the wild overcome massive resistance in taking down an elk or similar prey every dog needs to de stress in some form and in doing so they dont get bogged down by the normal shite which pet dogs use to rel

A Hella 160 spot lamp motorbike battery, not too bad i suppose but the poxy car had no heating so the lamping wasn't to bad it was getting up the mountain and home again that was the real test of determination,

Best and safest for rabbits is full moon and still conditions, bunnies venture further the safer they feel, likewise best for hunting is the very opposite, Often rabbits out in a rain-less night after rain all day ,

nice pup, nice quiet walks on her own with you when ready, dont let her get into a position where the staff has to discipline her, dont stimulate in the home the house then becomes a play area in the dogs mind, dont listen to any shite about what anyone's else,s pup is doing , just develop trust dont discipline manage the pup til old enough to learn reason for its actions, there is no such thing as teenage stage in a dogs development, its Drive kicking in, the pup has no control over its speed of response its been pulled in two different directions , towards you and away from you at the

most running dog unless its locked up 24/7 has more than enough speed to catch a rabbit, so i would think fitness is not the issue, some pups are reluctant to mouth at the start , its a confidence thing , tug items are good for building confidence in a pup who fumble over live game , you've got the right breeding for a yapper, but what i would do is give the pup a burn out earlier in the day a good hours exercise, because less energy in the system means less energy to express in the form of barking it takes that edge off them, best of luck

bang on, good answer , when things are moving, energy is moving and a dog feels ok in it environment, other pup included

is the dog in the house, has he been overstimulated in the house, in what form has the dog been disciplined if ever,

Silva wont step straight into a title shot, he'll have to beat someone in the top 5 first, Evans Machida or Rua would give him all the trouble in the world, Sonnen gave him a hard night out in the first fight at 185, big step up for a man with a relatively light frame at middle weight to fight a guy destined to fight at heavy, love to see it though, The difference between Sonnen / Jones and Silva / Jones is that Sonnen was just filling in to save the card when other Lheavy's refused at short notice,

i dont know how you train the retrieve but i start off the retrieve with two items with a pup and developing an understanding that bringing in the first makes way for the second to be launched what i dont do is grab the first off any pup, later when the pup is used to bringing in the first i add the give part as another aspect for the second item to come into play, potential energy in the second item is a huge incentive for any dog , the bird in the hand doesn't have as high a value as the two in the bush for the dog, a dog. forever an optimist is always interested in potential energy as
