Sounds like progress is been made which is always positive for the relationship between dog and owner When I introduce a dog to a situation where fear is likely to occur in the dogs mind such as strange noises or environments I like to let the dog believe there is potential for excitement or for energy to flow within it, in that I mean the dog feels it can express itself with you through ball play or some other positive group interaction that way any negative stimulation can become a positive or a part of the flow system When a dog is energised in drive or play he feels great , energy

Biting Advice And Cat Advice Needed

I don't know how you are with dogs or what experience you have but one tip I have for ya is not to play with the pup in the house, It makes associations with places and excitement levels , if it's used to getting worked up in the house it will have energy to burn and since it's attracted to you it wants to let off steam with you plus dogs de stress by grabbing and shaking when they have an energy overload I would bet pound to a penny that the pup feels the house is a play area and is just dealing with what it feels inside, Most cases where dogs are flipping out in the house, whining -
Stopping A Dog Speaking When It Finds Game

I teach a dog where to play so he wont play in the house , I teach him to hop up on the sofa so I can also teach a command to get down without confronting him, I give him a command to hop up onto me so he won't do it at other times I teach him where to speak so he won't do it without the command , -

Tie her up to a post, after that you can act menacing , staring , stalking her, quick movements or you can tease her with an item she wants , food or ball , trying to get the action first then adding the command , -

Teach the pup to bark , that way it will give it a context as to when to open up and especially if it's directed at you it will channel that certain energy in your direction Another element is if you do give her a direction for the bark , you can then use the "down"as a way of getting her to stop, always give another command as a way of stopping her speaking , that way you don't lead to the problem of excessive barking because it doesn't lead to anything , it always chained to another command which is the release -
Nik Makes a good point about memories of high excitement in the dogs mind in association with its owner , what I refer to as physical memories, Physical memories are ingrained in canines firstly from a survival point of view and in turn become how a dog relates to the positive in its environment , it interprets from past memories and projects them into the present moment , which is why a nervous dog is more likely to come to its owner when they crouch down because a correction or confrontation is less likely to have occurred with its owner while in that position, Its also a case

Biting Advice And Cat Advice Needed
Casso replied to Joe67's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
People seem to have a huge fear that if you don't confront or correct a pup that it will not grow up to be social in fact it's going to become a complete monster with no idea of what we want or just go round like some sort of feral animal , seems it has to learn through correction in other words So a pup stumbles from one confrontation to another figuring out how to get by without a correction , slowly by surely zoning out the human involved The biggest thing I learnt about pups is to Manage them , like any other young animal so it can't put itself in harms way , we treat young pups co -
There is an awful lot of misinformation out there about dogs , most of it lead to the erosion of the working relationship Dogs are born social , they don't need to be disciplined to become social and listen to commands, they don't need to be put in there place to get the best out of them , Discipline installs fear not respect , it will shut a dog down and stop him what he doing alright no doubt but it will also change how the dog perceives us , how he relates to us Dogs learn to avoid something that give them a negative feeling , a negative feeling inside,he feels it in his gut

Recall And Retrieving
Casso replied to Westyorkshire_lad's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Folks have different methods of approaching these issues some work and some fall apart once a dog is more motivated by something else and that's the problem the recall must address what the dog feels inside From the time the dog is a pup we should make the recall something really exciting for him So take for instance an activity that excites the pup , say hopping up into the car or getting a favourite item Whatever it is , I make the recall become instrumental in getting what he wants Chain the recall with an exciting activity , he wants to get into the car , run back a few meters -
Regardless of whats in the parents or what the parents are , you are still going to get a litter on the ground with individuals temperaments needed to form a pack Which means , say in a pack of 8 pups , 2 or 3 will be forward harder tempered pups, the same number will be softer shyer more wary pups and the rest will fall somewhere in the middle of the scale, The reason for this is because dogs bred with evolution in mind , same as wolves , they need to cover all avenues because they never know what the environment will impose or what traits will be needed for the breed to continue

If she's as focused on other dogs as you say then she's not as focused on you , When we throw a lead on the dog and take him out , the dog believes that's that the end of exciting interaction with us , if you think about it none of us really interact in a way the mutt might find exciting unless the lead is taken off , only then does he express himself in a meaningful canine manner, the dog knows the difference is huge, My father always started training on a long long line ,every time the young dog was out he was on the line so the issue of feeling compressed never arose the dog

The moments of madness occur when her prey making drive becomes too strong to sustain your contact with her What I mean by that is , she can't associate your commands with her drive to hunt if we take it that her drive is her overwhelming force If we look at other canine/human activities drug detection or protection work the pups are exposed to the prey item (whatever it may be for each handler ball or tug item )relatively young and all the training is done with that item already formatted in the dogs head as prey , so all instruction is given based on the dog attaining the item , th

Seeing you only have her a couple of days it's most likely stress related Throw her in a big meaty bone , it'll give her something to work out her oral inclination on And best of luck with the pup

With the retrieve I don't let the dog believe that bringing in an item as the end of an exercise I start a pup off with two items so that bringing in the first gains access to the second without commands and only start using commands once the action is cemented as a way of gaining the other resource (second item) A dog is always more interested in the potential energy of an item not the item it already has , it's the potential for more work or more excitement that plays into our hands Lure the dog into a position while he has the first letting him see the second so the dog is act

Working dogs have always been bred for heart , that what makes them so loyal and inspiring to man kind, It's only modern society that has a problem with this , in other working dog related activities no one is not breeding with heart in mind , the problem lies with the uneducated owner not the dog , been breeding for drive all my life with varies type of dog and have never had a problem that could be solved with a less driven dog for working purpose , If you understand it you can control it , drive is easily channeled but it all comes down to understanding it not rejecting it out of

When we stop breeding for purpose or drive we are going down the KC route, breeding for form only , Every day out with the dogs could be their last that's understood but what we as owners have to do is minimise the risks by edcuating ourselves and countrywiseing our dogs to the best of our ability All drive is , is heart when we stop breeding for heart in working dogs we've lost something so fundemental in our game , that we become no more than pet owners .

Was over in Von Liche kennels , where the Nat geo program "Alpha Dogs "was made during the summer and its for that very reason they don't breed themselves , just too much waste , 2 pups make it out of a litter , what the hell do ya do with the rest??So they buy most of their dogs in Europe , he has a kennel on the Germany border where they test them and if they make the grade ship them to the states to continue their training , even at that there are some dogs when they arrive in Indiana and are kennelled up with 100 other high driven dogs just can't produce the goods , they were good beside t

Firstly I woundnt worry bout training for now , you'll be just adding more pressure to a pup who sounds like its living on its instincts akin to a wild animal , fear is COMPLETELY UNTRAINABLEIn cases like this you need to create a desire , hunger in the pup is your way forward, Animals are directed by two very opposing forces , One is instinct or fear which your pup is controlled by at the minute , two, is hunger or the force of attraction , it's what rouses a dog to roam because a dog wants to move from an area which causes a wanting in its gut , the dog associates it's environment with

I don't let mature dogs and pups have much interaction, unless i know they are secure with each other ,normally pups can't control the force of attraction to other dogs and get spanked , which is a situation that can leave an emotional scar on its temperament , At the same time some grown dogs are confused about where on the scale of attraction a pup lies , dogs quantify everything on a prey/predator scale, an example of this is an emotionally disturbed bitch who will eat her own pups, her reading of the situation is that the pups are just too preylike , After saying that most dogs ar

A static recall can be a problem for some dogs if the dog percieves the owner as offering too much resistance, in that I mean the owner standing upright and staring can trigger memories of conflict within the mutt , a dog functions through physical memories , which is the reason a dog will come much quicker if we crouch down because its a position the dog doesn't equate ever having been in conflict with us , it changes it's perception of us , Also the dog knows there is nothing in coming back with the item , there is not potential excitement or energy , nothing in it for the dog , it can't

She's stressed by the change of environment , I'm sure biologically she fine , she can't reference her gut when she functioning only on instinct Don't fuss about her too much , approach her nice and easy in fact let her make all the approaches til she settles, We only think of dogs as predators but thats only one half of their character the lower their conifidence in a situation the more prey like they are If she can't eat with you or others around find her somewhere nice and quiet to eat Best of luck with her,
