  1. Most important thing a dog can do is catch stuff ,Day or night needs to be able to do it fair and square not bouncing things of hedges. Anything a dog can do after that is a bonus.

  3. Think gwp would bring a lot to table for allrounder type, but then i wouldnt want half x any more than any other half x
  4. Would many pure spaniels use there voice on scent?
  5. Think your right about price to be honest,But at least hes honest its a business ,Guess there worth what ever folks are going to pay. Interesting the"" you know what your getting"" comment always comes up,You could say that about all lurchers really, Some of the better ones ive had you could be listing 10 crosses, what differance? Think its just convenience my self,You can go see a few litters pick your pup.
  6. Think it depends on how much experience you have, as a honest answer. If your looking for a a to z of ailments, injury's you will be disappointed,If you want to add to a basic knowledge of caring for dogs buy it.
  7. See spaniel x whippet mentioned any one got a picture of one?
  8. Also had a lakie type terrier once for bushing,Can remember a few times walking for hours,Just when you and dogs have given up,terrier goes into a bit of cover, then starts coming back out,by the time i or dogs relished it wasn't the terrier coming out,mr fox had the split seconds he needed. That dog was a bad color.
  9. carry a tub of potassium permanganate crystals in your pocket, clots almost instantly carry a tub of potassium permanganate crystals in your pocket, clots almost instantly carry a tub of potassium permanganate crystals in your pocket, clots almost instantly Stings like hell too,and if it was breezy and blew in your eyes trip to hospital,if you could see your way out of field.
  10. Same here dont like to much white,Back in the day foxs that hadnt noticed you and were wondering down hedge towards you would spot a white dog very fast, after all thats why rabbits deer ect have white tails.
  11. You see lads that have a litter of pups or two every year, selling pups at 200-300 or more a shot, there making money arnt they? They talk about the great expense of rearing pups to 8 weeks,If you already have a couple of dogs the foods already there. Only ever bred once and the litter was kept small, they were not for sale, didnt seem expensive but then i wasn't counting.
  12. I disagree So do i, The runs i was thinking of were foxs in the middle of fields. While a dog may well know to drop a gear on rabbits ect,a dog that was good on foxs would just want them to much to do that, seen foxs wait till dogs on top of them and lie down dog going over the top,a fox could turn and knows when too. 3or 4 of these missed strikes and fox is suddenly in cover Might have been my dogs but ive seen foxs that seemed to know the crack.Would have defiantly been more like hares than rabbits Sorry for going of topic.
  13. Wouldnt be many left if that was the case,A fox was never dead till he was dead. If you were into rabbits, fox ,deer even lamped hares,You would get times when dogs failed for no other reason than they were total and utterly outclassed,at least mine did When a fox was the prey he was still able to think like the predator.
  14. Good bull x would have took the fence up hill with it lol. Never minded the odd duff run on rabbits theres always another one. Remember a few runs on foxs, foxs that couldnt get away get away standing there in shock for a minute, must have been bad still remember them, and they were all preban.
  15. You have some lovely open land,Great for mooching around no wonder you dont bother with the lamp so much.
  16. Dont think any one really cares who runs what tbh. Lads with collie x can be as quick only collie xs can hunt, ferret, run without bouncing of fences ect ect. I asked the wise old lad why he thought the lads he spoke of with the curs just go quite instead of just admitting dog started to get picky or what ever. He reckons they've built there selves a pedestal so high they can no longer get down. But he also says you cannot make the dishonest- honest ,man nor beast. Good job he aint got a computer dont think he would be very popular on here
  17. I know a similar wise lad,He reckons when a lad gets hes cur for the first 2 seasons you will here about all the great lamping its doing,By third season things are starting to get quite,You might even hear if someone else was out with him, that the dog wasn't running right and had to go home early. He reckons you wont hear any more lamping tales after that and the cur will suddenly age 2 or 3 years. Mind he also says if a lad cannot tell you hes dogs faults you cannot believe the dogs merits. Probably just the cider he be drinking?
  18. Never had a perfect dog myself,Some closer than others. Most have had a weak point some were along the line the more you want them to do the more chance you have at them not being perfect. I dont really care who keeps what,I remember putting up a thread about collie brains, and of all the die hard collie men not one would admit to ever seeing one picking and choosing ever in life times of keeping them Must admit i found that strange,in fact plenty took it extremely personally for me even saying it. Plenty of new comers come on here, and would be told colliex are the perfect x for them withou
  19. You can sicken any dog for sure but collie xs , can sicken there selves in my opinion. true, my colliex Blaze was good on foxes as ive said on posts , but I think if doing a lot of foxes in a week's lamping or day time, he would have said enough. where as ive seen few good 1x pit x greys would do that amount of work no prob, the bullxs will take more stick long term than colliexs, that's the only difference I think . but any dog what ever the x will sicken in the end and some of the bullxs did have very powerful jaws to start with , so its dogs for jobs but Blaze my collie x grey
  20. Dont know much about collie xs,had one wasnt my cup of tea,One thing i do know though plenty of lurchers with very good noses that have never even seen a collie.
