my mate was given a failed hare dog about 15 years ago, it had never jacked on them was just to up and attem for the lad he preferred a dog to box stuff and wear it down rather than try and take the hare as fast as it could. he missed a few hares like this hence he was given away as a failure, but that drive he had made him a exellent rabbit dog the lads still got a grandaughter out of the dog.

why are some rabbits faster in different parts of the country
fatlad replied to 2.8 guy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
ive ran the dales for 12 years now on the tops the rabbits do seem easier but thats because they dont get ran as much as on the bottoms where there lamp shy, both have stone walls round them but the ones on the bottoms get lamped more often and just dont hang around, i wouldn,t say there faster just wiser than the ones on the tops -
if the police werent with them they had no right to take your stuff there charity workers nothing more

derrys looking well -
the pups i bred were weaned onto minced raw food from 4 weeks as the mother didnt want them even near her from around that age , i bought a bag of gain puppy and sapling aswell the guy in the shop told me the main ingrediants are listed first and alot of the foods mentioned havn,t got meat as the first ingrediant. if your going to feed raw a pup will do better on a fatty type of mince and a good dry food when it gets to about ten weeks start giving it chicken thighs aswell after about 15 weeks just give it a good variety of food

COLLIE GREYHOUND THE WORST DOGS IVE SEEN..........
fatlad replied to 2.8 guy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
ive had afew collie greys over the years, ive allways prefered a dash of beardy in them makes them more robust and hardy than the border grey. one of the best i had was 5/8 beardy collie she was used mostly for ferreting and bushing up the dales really hardy and fast, she also worked longnets at night i think you need a bit more collie than a qauter if your wanting a good allrounder -
Whats you view on whippet size lurchers?
fatlad replied to panther82's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
heres mine she,s 18 months old line bred collie grey x 3/4 bull grey she,s 22 1/2 tts. she,s mostly for lamping and ferreting but is no slouch daytime either -
the thing with running the dales is it takes alot out of a dog most of the ground i run up there is really rough ground, ive seen fast dogs come a cropper up there dogs that usually run on winter wheat fields or grass fields often come off the dales lame as they run to fast and often hit walls or damage there selves on the roughness of the ground. well done lads and dogs on an exellent night

whin how can you say andys dogs dont look the same as the origanal minshaws the first dog from the strain he had was blue cross a collie, don,s jack cross a collie and they look similar to me
-
josy there all strong looking dogs and in good condition

i use green tripe and minced offal i also give raw bones, i was always led to believe tripe wasn,t very high in protien thats why ive always used other raw foods aswell such as minced lamb, beef and heart, tripe and liver and chicken thighs
-
P L i cant see why your getting worked up about things yes don was 14 months old the lad who used him knew his age and his breeding, the lads who got pups knew his age and breeding and they were willing to take a chance on rearing a pup out of a 14 month old dog. no one lied about his age or what he had done so its not as if anyone took a pup on thinking he was anything special, but the way he,s progressing now i,d say he could turn into something special

derrys looking good

i sorted him a ferret and he really doesn,t seem imature to me, ive had ferrets escape myself through chewing threw the wire of a cage it wasn,t down to me being bad at biulding a hutch it was because the wire was crap that i used, i used chicken wire instead of weld mesh. its always been hobs in the summer that have chewed there way threw the wire to escape, but you live and learn and ive never lost a ferret since i changed the wire on my cages to weld mesh

mine was the numbers i saw stegga smith and churchy getting lamping with the dogs, i asked stegga if i could go along with him we got 50 rabbits in one night and that was it i was hooked on lamping.

if your stuck for a ferret ive got 3 hobbs you can take your pick of them im in county durham
-
i ferreted for 15 years before i got a locater it learns you to be quieter round a set if you havent got one, i always made a squeaking sound when i fed the ferrets at home then if i got a kill i just made the same noise at a hole they usually came out to investigate what was going on. i always use a locater now but it wouldn,t bother me if i had to ferret without a locater

my pup was out a couple of times on the lamp at the end of last season so this is her first real season, she started really well she hasn,t missed alot the only thing is shes a bit to keen. shes hit a few stone walls and fences now to pick her rabbit up, the biggest buzz for me with her is its a pup ive bred so every nights good

the thing i regret most is not taking the chance of moving to thailand when i was offered to fight for the carryboy gym. i won the british thai boxing title, but i was offered to train there for two years with all acomodation paid for, and gave it all up for a woman, who turned out to be a money grabbing bitch. Oh and having to explain to my mam why i was on the front page of the sun under the headlines of "The face of english soccer hooliganism". when i got deported from italia 90.

ive always used blockpaving sealant to water proof concrete its cheap enough ,i seal it every few months works out very cheap just paint it on with a roller.i know marshalls put animal fats in there blockpaving as a sealant to stop them being porous and cracking in heavy frosts
