Any form of hunting with dogs, weather its coursing with lurchers, working a spaniel through cover crop looking for a runner or digging down to terrier baying like thunder, great satisfaction seeing a dog do its job bloody well. But saying that i mostly ferret, lol.

Not a dog of the past but when you were talking about the bond you had with your jack it reminded me of my mates black patt. Farm bred 2nd generation patt x lakie that threw heavily to the patt side of things, smooth dog he is. Anyway i used to spend alot of time on my mates farm with him shooting and what have you and becuase of that i have known pete (the dog) since he was a few days old. Ever since he was probably about 10 months old he started to really bond with me and when i say that i mean more so than his owners, even they noticed and regularly comment on it. Im not entirely sure why b

Which Semi-Auto To Buy?
Born Hunter replied to whippeter69's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Beretta 390 I got mine second hand for 300 quid, just usual wear and tear but other than that in very good working order. If you can find one its hard to beat as far as semi-autos go -
I was in a few different gun shops yesterday and asked in both about how the S510 differs from the S410, and as i expected they are pretty much the same just the cocking mechanism beeing the main difference. I think with the hw100, everyone seemed to go mad for it and loved the side lever instead of the more conventional bolt so Air Arms were just catering for the 'side lever/hw100' market with the S510. My personal opinion is i bloody love it, but having never actually used one im not rushing to get rid of my S410.

20 quid, fed well on pork pie suasage roles chocy hobnobs coke and beer and at the end of the day big beef/pork joint for cobs. but beating pays in other ways aswell, as much pigeon shooting and rabbiting as we want and round about now we will be having a few walked up days just to have a bash at what birds are left.

Air Arms S400 range are very accurate, fit most well, very easy to use (ie smooth and simple action), asthetically very pleasing to the eye and imo good value for money. As you can probably guess, i have one, lol.

for me its the hare, magnificant animal. always let them pass when out beating as i dont see much sport in shooting them and there arnt that many about

meindl are always a safe bet, but i think most of their boots are over 100. well worth the extra though.

I swear by deerhunter ram trousers, waterproof, windproof, insulated and tough as f**k! They will keep you warm and dry in just about any weather you are likely to encounter while hunting in the uk. Its the windproofing thats needed, you can have numerous layers on but unless you have a windproof outer the wind will cut straight through them all. As for footwear my new meindl Lhotse boots are great, well worth the money, stand up to brambles and other tough undergrowth well.

Ian, if you are surprised by how much support you have got then you dont understand how much your site has benefitted us all. Through running this site you really have done so much for the hunting community and at times even extensions of that community (charity events, members personal problems). For me, i have learnt a wealth of knowledge from this site and when i think about it, to have access to that amount of knowledge and experience would be impossible any other way. Do what you have to Ian, we are all behind you!

The Rabbit.....So Many Uses
Born Hunter replied to Rolfe's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
I beleive rabbit is around 30% protein, so a good meat for part of your body building diet especialy as us lot can usually get sacks of rabbits for nothing. But dont quote me on that percentage becuase im not sure, there are nutritional analysis websites out there that give you the full analyisis of all kinds of meat and foods. -
a letter in my local paper saying ban airguns
Born Hunter replied to celticwar's topic in Airgun Hunting
Well had a bash and sent it, adrenaline pumping and hand shaking throughout, lol. Good job these people arnt spouting this shit infront of me becuase i really dont think i would be able to just sit there and listen to it, makes my fukin blood boil! Anyway heres what i sent, "Letters like that of Joan McDaniel make my blood boil! Complete and utter ignorance written with no logical thought just an emotional response from hearing of a pet cat being shot. One of my strongest passions in life is shooting, particularly air rifle shooting although I also use shotguns I prefer the skill of us -

Cant beleive i missed that in the journal, thanks for pointing it out, ill try my best at a response to that arsehole of a letter! -
Im with you on this one millet, unless the bird somehow managed to earth itself when hitting the power line i doubt it got any shock at all, other than that to its neck when suddenly crashing into a cable out of nowhere. Ive seen swans aswell dead under power lines, took me a while to figure what had happened as the bird was just laying there dead on the side of a footpath at least 500 yards from the river, then i looked up and i realised

Its just a hormonal thing as far as im aware, 'breeding season alapecia(sp)'. My 2 jills get it, one worse than the other. Both of them loose almost all of it on their tails ('rat tail') and one looses quite abit on her flanks. But its nothing to worry about, now their new coats are coming through real dense on their bodies, just their tails that havnt come good yet, but they will. Ill try and find a link to explain it........

A very pissed off moggy, beating last year 2 terriers knocked f**k out of this farm feral that was in a bramble thicket on the first drive. I got in there and managed to scruff the cat and get the terrier off that had hold, the cat was in a bad way but still spitting and hissing like hell, anyway i tried to get a better grip with my other hand and the bugger managed to get hold of the end of my thumb! Canin teeth went straight through gloves and my nail straight into the bone, swelled like f**k and was a bit of a joke for the rest of the day, lol.

I think the whole 'pet/worker' divide is alot to do with the fact that in the hands of 'pet only' owners the ferret would soon become a non working animal. I havnt a problem with showing the stinkers afection and enjoying their personalities while watching them play etc, but...... they are workers first and foremost and any decisions about breeding / feeding etc are based on that fact and so keeping the working ferret at a good working standard. If people doubt what ive said, just look at alot of todays dog breeds, they became 'pet only' breeds and have suffered for it. Just like to s

agree with ya mate............ But, i changed to 177 about 4 months ago and now have even more confidence in my kit than ever before. I used to shoot 22 AA S410 and now shoot 177 AA S410 (slightly different model, thumbhole stock and full length not carbine) so its a fair comparison. Try not to worry too much about 'stopping power' becuase a head shot is a head shot and if you cant manage a head shot on a rabbit dont shoot regardless of calibre.
