Shame about the snipe BH...we had a few last week, all the years I’ve been shooting and only ever shot one ringed Greylag then in the last 6 weeks have had 2 ringed woodcock and a ringed snipe......you can just make out the ring on the picture I posted earlier....

Something about a cock wigeon mate....where we live I rarely see them, have shot the odd hen wigeon but the cocks are smart looking birds. Their ‘weeeeeoo’ call gets the blood pumping when you hear it in the dark......where I shot this one you don’t get them so this was a bonus... Will give you a call about that other thing.

Had a few days on the west coast, managed a cock wigeon on the shore, first one so off to the taxidermist for it.

Had a poke about before waiting for some duck to come into a pond, my spaniel hoovered up the first woodcock but ran over the second one 3 times without picking it....it was still alive and switched off its scent....bizarre I know but there is no other explanation....my dog has picked hundreds of woodcock but simply didn’t register it !

Was up the West coast last week chasing these little fellas. Must have flushed over 60 in a couple of days and finished on 16 between two of us. Hard going and the dogs will sleep for a week. Managed one carrying a bit of bling !
