  1. One of my new pink four ft nets made by Netrigger on here.
  2. Out this morning on a wee hedge, no big numbers four, but a good morning out, could have had a couple more if i had brought a stop net, also had first rabbit in young.
  3. Well done Tote, always trying to figure out where your Ferreting, but as usual im beat.
  4. Great topic, looking for ways to tackle hedges, as most of my ferreting is along hedgerows, im one of the old school, i just purse net the burys, very productive, but time consuming, and murder on the auld back. Good tip Chalky, with the hoops, any others lads keep them coming.
  5. It would be a far better piece of kit, if it made the same noise as the Mark 1 as someone said its sounds like Hawkwind, They are far over priced as well, and so are the collars. It has been said lots of times on here, I wish someone else had been in competion with Deben. Wait till the new mark4 comes out, probally be round the £200.
  6. New Kid, Do you find the Rabbits get caught in the longnets running the side of the hedges, or do the stop nets, coming out of the hedge not pick them up?
  7. Keep going Laurie, just send the rabbits up the road.
  8. Good stuff, good weather here to be out, but my freezer is full, i think the whippet is sick fed up eating Rabbit.
  9. Your Pup will benifit by seeing rabbits hit the net, the sounds of Rabbits bolting, and hopefully it will start him using his nose, to mark, I would concentrate on this side of Ferreting, and would not be putting up what your planning on a public forum. if your pup is only 5 months, then later on in the year, when he is more mature, if you take him to the right places, there should be a few Rabbits that are not street wise.
  10. As i have worked Whippet x beddy, and 3/4 whippet, and Beddy x Greyhound, i would have to say the beddy x Whippet, but only as it would be faster on bolters, the spaniel as you know would hunt up and mark.
  11. Wax leggings and old wax jacket, you need them for hedges, have a good paire of goretex boots, but finding wellies is the norm, as this year the fields are waterlogged.
  12. Still a few rabbits on my permission, and every time out its a learning curve for my whippet pup, but my freezer is filled to the top, so if i do go out then two or three will do me. ive still never hit any young.
  13. Reminds me when i started out 43 years ago, one Lurcher, one ferret in a sack and 6 nets in the pocket, went anywhere, never bothered with permission, if I caught a pair, I was a happy man. My limit now is 8 Rabbits, no big bags, cant be bothered with all the carrying. Lone Hunter.
  14. Rob, as you have your doubts about this Hobs working abilty, and you have given him lots of chances, then i would get rid, as you say your happy with your jill, then I would find who has good working ferrets in your area, and if breeding, then you can either go for another jill or hob, Regarding a good working bedlington, The Working Bedlington Forum is the place to look, and coming from Wales theres a few Welsh lads on there who are working them,
  15. Great to read a bit of common sense, what do you do when you put on your troosers, if they fall down you tighten your belt.
  16. Good Day, any in young down Suffolk way?
  17. Thats what I did to the Mark3m collar, and it fits my jill fine, just heat a nail up on a gas ring and make extra holes, make sure its really tight when putting it on, and dont put it on the chest, if you dont want a long bit of the collar protruding get a spare leather collar and make your holes, then cut it to size.
  18. Thats graham on here that green line is the same on my machine.
  19. You are really careful when netting up and lifting, but when that Rabbit hits the net, everything you have been doing is up in the air, you dive in, result one rabbit, two scratches.
  20. Ive looked at a few, the best i have read, is Ferreting An Esential Guide by Simon Whitehead, I swopped a book on here for it, explains everything, and no sections on pets.
  21. I have both, always used the mark 1 still not got the hang of the mark3, that noise does my head in, im finding, im using it to search, then to locate I use my mark 1, I think when deben finally bring out a mark 4 it will have the clicking sound similar to the mark 1
  22. Contact Graham on here who makes and sells them, he uses a green cord, I have one of his machines, and the cord is spot on, im sure he will advise you.
  23. I bought a pair of Tay muck boots had them about a Month, so sole was not worn, was going down a grass slope, the feet just went from me, I grabbed a wire fence to cushion my fall, resulting in four stiches on my finger, Ended up screwing wader studs into them, there grip is crap. I emailed them about this, and i never recieved a reply.
  24. The coneys certainly ain't dull pal! I almost cry reading some reports on here with pictures of nice clean buries in the middle of short grass fields. Terrier gets pretty much wherever a rabbit can get. She looks a hell of a state after a good mooch in the brambles though, covered in blood from where her ears get nicked. She's pushed countless rabbits out when we're mooching but my lurcher's too thick to learn to work with her effectively. The 50% terrier in him gets too much and he's always trying to get in after her. Even if I hold him on a slip away from the hedge he's that wound u
