They are stalking sticks from Bushwear mate.
I dont use a dog when stalking mate , I have only ever needed the use of a dog once when the deer I had shot fell in some very dense cover. On this particular day , the stalker we were with had his trained deer dog with him so there wouldnt have been a problem.
I travelled up to my mates on Friday afternoon as we were going sika stalking on saturday. We ended up having a look about with the lamp at the back of his house, it was a full moon and hard frost ,not the best of conditions but my mate managed to shoot a nice vixen , turned out to be the only fox we saw.
Next morning saw us up at 6am to travel to our stalking destination , very frosty morning.........
I set off stalking a large forestry block, it was like walking on eggshells I never saw any deer until I eventually stalked to a lovely clear ride where the sun was hitti
Congratulations on your 1st roe but whoever was supervising you should have waited for a better shot , ideally waiting til the beast turned broadside and delivering a heart /lung shot. Not taking anything away from a good shot but it is not the sort of shot you should be taking for your 1st .
Well done anyway , have you now got the bug???
That was quite a long time ago now ,the good old days. Shame the rabbits had to disappear through RHD
I cant imagine ever shooting those sort of numbers ever again
Seen most animals including otter, scottish wildcat ,all 6 species of deer , badgers , red squirrels , adders but would like to see a wild boar , never had the privilege of spotting a porker. Also would love to spot a pine marten
Went down to my mates at the weekend , we had a duck flight , not a lot of ducks came in but we still managed a few
