    What a fantastic flight
  3. Well it was a nice evening last night with blue skies and even the sun putting in an appearance so I called my mate and asked it he wanted sit out on the edge of a piece of woodland that he shoots. On arrival there was a doe and kid already out on the stubble adjacent the wood which we observed for around 10 mins before they sauntered back into the wood. I then picked my spot and got laid in position to see if anything else would emerge. 5 Mins later another doe emerged with twins this time and they casually fed down the field away from us. It was now 7.45pm and I
  4. I left the rifle at home today and had a little wander with the shotgun for a change. 1st snipe of the season.... Nice little bag after a couple of hours ....

    Lamping

Good read Artic !!I was out last night and also blanked , only saw 1 fox and it wasnt playing. This was on ground that I havent lamped this season. Perfect conditions arent always productive as youve said in fact Ive had good nights when the full moon is up !!! But just being out there counts ....fresh air in the lungs
  6. Out on my ground on Saturday with Ratcherman. On glassing the valley I spotted 5 foxes on a banking about 1/2 a mile away at 5pm. We jumped in my car and drove round the 2 mile journey to get behind and above them keeping the wind right. I placed Ratch at the edge of a wood whilst I tried to stalk the foxes which were below us. As I descended the bank going very slowly I eventually spotted a fox trotting towards me but as I tried to get set up on my sticks it disappeared behind a gorse bush. I very slowly started to creep up to this bush when I spotted another fox lying down which was
  7. I used to have a 581 many years ago and lost the magazine and was very fortunate to find a magazine through an arms collector.I believe they are obsolete , stopped making them about 20 years ago . Good luck in your search but I think they will be like hens teeth !!!!
  8. All mine is done on foot. I have been out in a vehicle in the past but found it complicated matters , you really need the right ground to drive. I know you can cover more ground but you can get places on foot that a vehicle cant ...
  9. I was out lamping last night and bumped into 3 lads with lurchers lamping on my permission. I questioned them and the farmer has also given them permission so that was OK . Whilst talking to them I asked if they had seen any foxes and they said they saw one which was sitting in a hedge looking at them . They slipped the dogs anyway knowing full well they had no chance of catching it. So my question is WHY ???? I am trying to keep the fox numbers down and it doesnt help when lurchers lads make them shy. I have no problem with lurchers at all but cant see the point in slipping at a
  10. Had another look out lamping last night and connected with this cub in the very 1st field I entered Then it went downhill not seeing any more that were shootable , I did see the glimpse of an eye on a field over the boundary but it scarpered sharpish ....
  11. Hi Dave , I normally use my .243 but last night I was using my .22/250. I love that calibre , I dusted it off out the cabinet last week and its had a few victims this week .
  12. Lamped another farm last night for the 1st time this season under the full moon . Most of the fields are still a bit long but I managed to shoot 1 cub seeing 5 in total , a combination of the wind in the wrong direction and the long vegetation meant that the others were safe until next time ......... Season is going well seeing cubs on every piece of ground weve lamped so far , but Ive shot no adults at all , they are keeping themselves well concealed but Im sure they will meet thier fate eventually
  13. We had 3 the other night under the full moon. The 1st emerged from a field drain which you can see in the pic .... The 2nd was shot a couple of minutes later in the field behind us.... Followed very quickly again by the 3rd in the same field All within about 10 mins ......
  14. That will work wonders for the self-confidence now as a few misses in a row really does your head in
  15. Friday night lamping and another brace in the bag with my .22/250
  16. Never even started up here mate !!!
  17. Out again last night , 1st farm we tried saw nothing at all except a yearling roebuck. So moved onto another farm , as I drove up the farm road a fox crossed right in front of the car which had been spooked by a fisherman , I got out the car but it was having none of it and disappeared sharpish... Ratch then lamped 2 cubs out on a rape stubble , I proceeded to call using my hand and 1 of them screamed in to around 40 yards. The .22/250 spoke and that was a dog cub in the bag , meanwhile its sibling just sat at the bottom of the field totally oblivious . Unfortunately not a safe shot s
  18. Out with the dogs ..... Very useful at times and good fun !!!
  19. What a pathetic comment Fence-hopper. I dont have a problem with working dogs so why do you seem to have a problem with guns ??? Guns do a job , simple as that !!! Dogs do a job as well but there is room for both !!!
