  2. We were testing the .17 HMR mate , .22 would struggle knocking a hare over at 165 yards ....
  3. Well me and Ratcherman decided to have a look out on his pheasant shoot last night as the birds are in the pens and a litter of cubs has been seen on the place. After lamping the first few stubbles and seeing nothing we were getting a bit dis-heartened. Then we spotted a couple of cubs but shots were not safe Eventually I lamped a cub in a barley field which we could only see as the ground was rising up above the field. Ratcherman knocked this one over and that was no 1 in the bag We continued lamping and it wasnt long before No 2 was in the bag ... I have never seen

  5. Had 5 this week but still some fields to come down . Should start seriously within next couple of weeks.
  6. Nothing wasted at all I suppose you have a wonder dog that catches this many each outing This is a LEGAL way of controlling hare numbers
  7. I had a wander around one of my farms yesterday evening. I spied a fox crossing a stubble behind a small copse from a couple of fields away so I quickly raced to the front of the copse hoping the fox would come out my side. On arrival I spied the fox travelling the far hedgeline , I tried a shot at about 180 yards as the fox was about to go through the hedge but I missed. The fox came running towards me through some rushes and stopped about 130 yards away , I missed again I didnt know what was happening . The fox raced off this time at speed heading back towards the copse , I hollered and am
  8. Me and Ratcherman lamped some rape stubbles last night and ratch shot these 2 cubs in quick succession .... Also witnessed some blatant poachers driving my ground lamping , I shone the Lightforce on them and they quickly left the scene .....TOSSERS !!!!

  10. Well done mate , enjoyed the read . Been up Scotland this weekend and nothing doing at all, mind you the weather was cold and breezy. Never saw a buck only does with kids at foot....
  11. I had a call last night in Co Durham and a doe and a buck came running out of the wood ....bagged this spiker
  12. A farmer rang me to say "Can you shoot some rabbits as there eating my cabbages " Well I decided to have a look last night taking the .22 and also the .243 in case I saw a buck or a fox. The wind had been blowing gale force all day but seemed to drop off a bit as it often does before dark .After chatting with the farmer and giving me some lamb joints I got my .22 and stalked around the farm buildings , a rabbit hopped out from behind an old roller at around 70 yards , I steadied myself on the edge of a barn and off it went to bunny heaven.. As I picked up the rabbit I happened to g

  16. Me and my mate lay out on a freshly cut field last night at 8.30pm. At 9.15 a cub appeared right in the far corner of the field and proceeded to stand on its hind legs Ive never witnessed this behaviour before !! Anyway the .243 found its mark on the back of its neck at 235 yards
  17. I arrived on my ground at 4.30am with the hope of mopping up some more foxes after the other night. As I stalked down the edge of a cut grass field I noticed something orange in the bottom hedgerow , a glance through the bins confirmed a buck. As I tried to lie down for a shot though he meandered off out of sight . I proceeded forward and couldnt see him anywhere then I glassed the field below me which was long grass and noticed a buck without a care in the world , whether or not it was the same buck I dont know. He was starting to walk away from me so a quick shout from me and he turned
  18. After speaking to one of my farmers the other night he was quite concerned at the number of foxes about especially as one had just wiped out all his ducks so I said I would have a look out lamping and thin a few out hopefully. Me and Ratcherman arrived just before dark and sat in the car til dark . About 100 yards from the car a little owl was going crackers and I thought to myself charlie is about , just then he emerged onto the road beside me and stared straight at me through the car window. As soon as he moved I jumped out of the car and grabbed my rifle , Ratch flicked the lamp on and
  19. Me and Ratcherman decided to have a look out with the lamp last night as havent been lamping for a couple of months. Just wanted to see if there was any cubs about really. Anyway there was quite a moon but a good breeze blowing so I thought we might do OK ....Never saw any cubs at all Ratcherman did manage to shoot a dog fox that screamed into the call to 100 yards then sat down Very tired , got home at 3.30 am .... Cant wait til the fields are cut and really get going !!!
  20. Got to disagree with you on this one mate definitely a young animal ..Young animals have weak hindquarters and sharp angles at the pin bone above the haunch.Antlers themselves are no guide to age .Yearlings sometimes have 6 points and old bucks have been known to have short spikes. Young animals have weak necks which thicken and shorten as they age. Old animals also have sagging bellys with head held low.
  21. Congratulations mate , hope it went well
  22. I went for an afternoon stalk yesterday in the sunshine to see if I could catch anything out. After seeing 5 does, 2 of which had twins at foot I was starting to lose hope. I then spotted a buck in a field of buttercups and the stalk was on. I had to negotiate a 5 bar gate and then creep a good 200 yards before I could get hidden behind a dry stone wall. It was very warm and I was sweating like a pig and my breathing was all over the place .The only shot available was off the top of the dry stone wall..... I waited til the buck turned broadside , steadied myself the best I could and rele
