    If it had stood looking at me or it turned broadside it was a gonner but wasnt going to shoot it up the jacksy , deserves better.

    Great sport bushing rabbits with terriers , brings back happy memories of the 90s in the Scottish Borders catching rabbits in the gorse with the patterdales. I remember my mates bitch , fast as lightning catching a dozen in just one patch of gorse , great times. I also used to pull a lot out of the rock piles that my bitch marked , got 45 one day just me and the bitch.

    Got loads to be doing at the moment , crows , rabbits , foxes and going up shoot . Dont seem to have the time or energy to keep up at minute with all the fields coming off. No time for work. Glad it's raining for a few days to get a rest ? Had another 32 bunnies on Thursday night ?

    Farmer has cut some oats and usually a good field for the corvids. I was set up before daybreak and had a few hours. It wasn't as busy as normal but still managed a few ? Just as it was getting light I peered from my hide and there was a fox no more than 10 yds away looking at me , it turned and headed back to the wood and I tipped my hat to it as didn't want to shoot it up the backside with 6 shot , I will make an appointment soon with the rifle ?

    Yep rain all next week mate. Summer is gone , hope we have a dryish Autumn.

    You wouldn't think it was August Stav , more like October. We have rain forecast most days up til the end of the month, bloody British summer eh ?

    Sounds of the countryside , that got me thinking. Partridges calling on barley stubble, geese honking in the Autumn ,foxes mating calls in Winter , snipe drumming overhead or grouse shouting go back go back we are really lucky to enjoy our beautiful countryside. Muntjac barking and Sika whistling are all wonderful sounds.

    I remember the days humping a 12v lead acid battery about burning holes in my Barbour jacket. Happy days ?

    Exactly it's not about extermination but population control. Nobody wants to see the eradication of any species as they all have their niche in the ecosystem. It is arguable regarding invasive non indigenous species but they provide the hunter with great sport.

    Well had another look out last night to the farm I got the 3 Cubs from the other night. Not hopeful as very still, muggy and misty. Saw 3 or 4 but no chance of a shot. Finally spotted a cub in the barley stubble at the bottom of the field, put caller on and no response so went old school and hand squeaked it in nicely to around 70 yds.

    Strange one , I know he has helped you out but I would have dispatched him. He can now go on to breed more horrible pirates next year and predate on our songbirds. No mercy on corvids.

    Just been to do some recce as farmer said geese on a field , didn't know if Canadas or not so went for a look. Turned out to be Greys . Anyway not a wasted trip as took out this young Carrion ?

    Was out last night too at my mates shoot. Poults went in last week so we staked out the wood to see if anything came out . First thing to show was a buck and a doe but didn't hang around for a shot and slipped back in the wood. Then another 2 does sauntered out across the field in front of us. As the light was fading I spotted Charlie pop out and sit down around 180 yds away ? My mate duly dropped him with a central bib shot ? A good result seeing as it was less than 100 yds from the pen.

    10 - 7 to Ronnie even though it's the worst I've ever seen him play..

    That's a great result and cartridge to kill ratio especially using a .410 ?
