  3. I sold 3 deerhounds to America, and if your exporting dogs they have to have a vets check, I got all three checked by a dogs vet who used to work with the greyhound tracks..I go a phone call from over the pond saying one of them had been checked at their end and had a heart murmur, asked them to get a second opinion from a vet that knew the breed, and it came back clear..so the running dog thing could be right. A lot of deerhounds nowerdays have heart problems (cardio myopathy) but thats with the introducing of wolfhound into the breed to meet the current show trends of exagerated size...
  4. If Carrol goes back to the toon, it will be for the same price Liverpool paid for him, which, wasnt £35 million, that was the agreed price for the media by Ashley and Liverpool so that there wasnt a mass revolt by Newcastle fans..thought everyone new that.. Do believe Liverpool shouldnt sell or loan big Andy, and if they do, my bet this season is that Liverpool wont be in the top 10 teams, we are well and truely f****d now....

  8. One the odd ocaision, and I mean odd occaision I have longnetted alone I used my hundred yarder..I ran the net out, had the pegs with me, back pegged along the set net, then chorded the field..killed the rabbits in the net, then had a good rest...One reason I did this alone, a night when two of us had planned to go out, my mates wife was playing up about him going out, so I went myself, took the dog with me, got 18 rabbits with one drop of the net, got 42 rabbits lamping after netting, got chased, got stopped by the feds but just great to be out....the best longnetter Ive grafted with was a gu
  9. Good images Moll, and, arnt young water hens ugly little beggers?
  10. Ha, ha, ha Did more than running rabbits.. What I did on the hills or on the fens with the stuck up deerhound crowd was just a fraction of what my dogs did, If you did see my dogs there, you saw about 1% of what they were capable of, and what you will of seen, was my dogs killing a hare on every course they had in every competition they were entered in, they were killers not coursers..deerhound coursing with the deerhound club was another piece in the jigsaw that kept my dogs working dogs....but, like you say...what was the point..
  11. Saw a borzoi cross in Northumberland in the 70`s, her name Carly..what a hard bitch, most of the dogs in Ashington at that time had scars from getting bit off this bitch, anyone on here knowing some of the old poaching lads from the 70-`s, ask them about Carly
  12. Yes I worked my deerhounds on rabbits, and, pretty often, but certainly not as my first choice, I used them like I did the lurchers to keep what I had as a working strain, I had, they lamped rabbits and ferreted and did corn cuttings, a good deerhound is about the same as an average lurcher (on rabbits) Ive also worked them on hare, fox and deer.. As for size.....when deerhounds were doing what they were bred for, they were certainly NOT the size of what we now see in the show ring..the old breed standard (which no one seems to go by) states 28inch for bitches and 30 inches for dogs, NO Do
  13. Ideally longnetting is a three man game to maximise the killing of the net, one to run the net, one to peg behind and one to chord the field, it can be done with two, but bloody hard work for one..Ive done the odd single handed night out, but as I say, its bloody hard work and you cannot set as quickly as having a trained team...Ive longnetted since I was at junior school, Ive travelled with some of the best longnetters in the country, yes you could have a bit play around using a dog and you will get some bunnies in the net, as you would shaking boxes of matches, clapping your hands and the li
  14. Theres only one good dog for longnetting, and thats the "dumb dog" the draw chord
