  1. So to recap: The length for competition purposes is nose to base of tail. Evidence is a clear photograph showing the specimen laid out on a standard rule. Full length from nose to tip of tail also recorded for interest Is that right ?
  2. Ditch - I like this idea. The only alternative, or possible addition, I would suggest is maybe laying the rat full length on the tape, so we get a 'nose to tip of tail' measurement ? Legs do pivot at he body and I don't want people to have to get set squares out do make sure the legs are at right angles to the body
  3. I've just found it on the Killgerm web site. http://www.killgerm.com/product-group.php?group=104 General dimensions are: Feral Pigeon Cage (1.0m x 0.6m x 0.3m) and so by counting the squares across the front and height, each mesh square is 5cm x 5cm. So; the entrance is 4 squares wide (20cm) and 3 squares high (15cm). The hinge point is actually 4 squares up, but it's using a sqaure below as the stop. So turning it into English: the front is 12 inches high and 24 inches wide. The entrance opening is 8 inches wide, 6 inches high. So that blows my theory about bobnets' trap b
  4. It's funny from where I'm sitting .
  5. Thanks mate - those were the ones I had in mind. I have a concern that the opening might not be deep enough - I reckon the opening needs to be 8 inches plus, but I have no factual basis for that really. The spacing between the wires is also key - on the commercial bob wires the 'shoulders' mean that the wires are 1.5 inches apart inside edge to inside edge. So my guess is that the bird can get it's head through to feed and then knocks the wires with it's wings / body while it's feeding. Probably doesn't even notice as it walks forwards.
  6. Just name and address. The license application form inside asks a lot more
  7. There is an interesting thread on this in Another Place at the moment and I'm planning a go at one myself. This picture of the finished item was posted by IVAN and I hope he won't mind me repeating it here. You'll notice down the bottom corners there is a hint of green. This is the commercial 'Bob-wires' used by the pigeon racing fraternity. They come with a plastic 'T' top which is hollow, so you just slide them onto a bar and they're all spaced out correctly. About 5 togther seems the normal usage. These are all either 9" or 12" long which leads me to believe that all
  8. I've just started to get into this myself. If you contact the environment agency they'll send you a tidy little pack all about crayfish trapping. In includes: Everything you need to apply for a licence ( ) A handy splashproof guide on identiying the different types of freshwater crayfish Tips on how and where to set your traps. Crayfish trapping advice packs are available from the National Fisheries Laboratory 01480 483968. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subje...rsion=1&lang=_e

  10. Might these boys help you out DS ? If you were to join ? http://www.ipca.ie/membership.htm
  11. As a regular reader DS, I am starting to get a sense of where things might head. Reading this thread, coupled with your 'noose pole' one, I can't help wondering if you should start carrying a small first aid kit with you ? Good luck mate and watch those fingers ........
  12. Thanks Crow - found them on the web mate. http://www.atlanticonline.uk.com/product.asp?parseid=5000010&i=113 The rat trap is £9 http://www.atlanticonline.uk.com/product.asp?parseid=5000065&i=113 Cheers
  13. With Ian's help it's now a bit more visible and I've pinned a 'pointer'
  14. Ditch I was thinking of moving it into the 'Trap and Snare Designs' sub forum. That's it's 'natural home', but I was worried it would get lost altogether there ...........
  15. Good going Duckwing - like those triggers
  16. Franco Have a look at this http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=13947 and the thread just below here on Corvids http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=16874 That shows the principle of a funnel trap
  17. Are you talking about the wire on the coils Ditch ? Just make sure it's a very old TV set that's not been used in ages - I think the big old capacitors in there can hold a fair wack of charge for a while.

    BIGDAZZ

well that's a shame - I've always found bigdazz to be alright. It wouldn't surprise me to find there was a good explination behind it, but fair enough if you're out of pocket.
  19. very interesting and useful post. Thanks and well done
  20. I think that an important point has been made here, however we got around to it. There are novices coming on here all the time who will take what they see at face value. It is important that we don't assume that everyone will know the right way to do things and, where we can, that we give clear advice on legal requirements and best practice. And if you spot something that's been overlooked - please add to the thread constructively ! We got enough people taking pops at us from outside.
  21. Teejay is your man for bodygripping LocalYokel. he's had a few threads on here, the latest one was a few weeks ago http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=15345
