    Home Made Lamp

Looks tidy to me mate. well done.
  2. A quick google has come up with a couple of possibilities Something called 'Heartworm' http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/heartworm.htm and this general commentary Ferrets can catch the human influenza and cold viruses and they can pass them back. If you have a cold or the flu, be sure to wash your hands before touching your ferret. Keep the ferret away from your face and do your best not to give your cold to your ferret. Ferrets are also susceptible to canine distemper and rabies (see above). Other common diseases are adrenal and pancreatic tumors, Aleutian disea

That's what I thought - Carmina Burana. Play the link in my earlier post and see if that's it

    there is

    Alright - who's typing one handed ?
  7. Now while I agree with both of those recommendations, I have to admit to being somewhat disappointed with the trapping books I've found. On the whole they seem to me to be historical in their approach and the role that they fulfil. Perhaps an explanatory catalogue would be a better comparison to use. It's no so true of Carnegie but the bateman book I've kept really as a 'collectors reference' rather than a practical guide. I've found I've had to glean bits from here and there from - sometimes getting a gem of clarity on one specific point, from an otherwise fairly crap book. I mu

    keyboard

Molly, it's probably your keyboard. The way it works is that it uses different connection 'tracks' in the keyboard for different groups of letters, so that there is a balance and one track doesn'r get all the usage. I had a problem with my laptop where using the left shift key I couldn't get some keys, but using the right shift key, or caps lock, I could. John
  12. When I try the battery one I got "Change active speech codec?" which I didn't like the sound of, so I haven't Quick search onGoogle and here we go. The *3370# doesn't release hidden power reserves at all. It reduces the sound quality of the transmission, which requires less power. I'm guessing that the phone then adjusts the meter to show the extended life now available becuase what's left will last longer In GSM, there are 3 speech codecs: Half Rate (HR), Full Rate (FR) and Enhanced Full Rate (EFR). Basically, the difference is about the same as something reco
  13. You know I'm glad you said that Vermin D, 'cos until I saw the pic in the book I visualised a straight tube too. Sort of a 'slide of death' affair You could quite easily seal the pipe into a cold water tank with some sort of plumbing sealant and I think that would still give a benefit. You'd probably need to fill the bottom of it with a layer of sand or soil to naturalise it. Anyway, this is how I currently believe it works To quote the text: "The baits should hang just beyond the reach of the vermin, unless they place their feet upon the plate of the gin(sic) to r
  14. Ditch It's a fairly faithful recreation - this is how it looks in the book. Perhaps we're on different ones ? Book details now added to the diagram. Mine doesn't say much about the inside though, just a central baited spindle (verticle) with traps around it.
  15. I thought I'd make my contrubution to this thread by recreating the diagram from Ditch's favourite reference work. This is W Carnegie's illustration of how the pipes should run. Taken from Practical Trapping & Conservation. W Carnegie. Field Sports library 2003 edition revised by John Bridges

    Fox Hunting

Countryside Alliance mate 1. Hunt Newcomers’ Week Hunts across the country will be participating in Newcomers’ Week during the week of the 23rd October. Ahead of the new season, hunts will be taking the opportunity to promote hunting’s benefits to a new audience, encouraging first-timers of all ages to come out, whether mounted or on foot, to meet the hounds and learn what it’s all about. The Alliance’s website will soon be carrying full details of meets, so please keep an eye out for more information, put a note in your diary and encourage someone who has never been hu
  17. This is another write up of Snareman's intellectual property. Basically it intended to show how you can use either 'eye' to make a complete snare.
  18. OK - I think I've got the OK from snarman to share this with you too. Lets hope I don't have to redo this one :11: Basically it's the same as the 'break-away' eye, except that this one is fixed.
  19. Sorry - bit late to this thread On the subject of bees I can help a little. My Dad keeps bees so I grew up with half a dozen hives in the garden. Like birds and some other animals, bees seem to know when it's going to rain. We could be out in the garden and see a positive 'rush' of bees all streaming back to the hive. We'd know to pack stuff up and usually be under cover just as the showers started. If it's already raining they just don't go out, same as during the winter. Honeybees have a peculiar biology which means that they can only crap when they are flying - so the nest s
  20. My old Geography teacher spent a while working in Africa and came face to face with one of these. It didn't attack, but he told afterwards that they go for the genitals.
  21. Not suggesting there's anything wrong with the knot method at all. Was just trying to suggest a 'quick fix' for Mitch with his over sized eyes. S'pose he could just squeeze the eye smaller. Not making any claim to being a master at this at all.
  22. Thought have including a small washer on the wire between the knot and the tealer ?
