  1. I cleared a rookery years ago. Didn't like doing it at all. It was a paid job. Some developer had built some houses near the estate where I worked and the folks were complaining about the noise and the mess so asked if the 'problem' could be solved, so I landed the job of shooting the branchers and the adults as they came in to feed the young 'uns. No sport, little skill, just wait 'til the poor little buggers presented a shot, then killed them. If it hadn't been for the money, I wouldn't have done it. Not their fault after all. They'd been there for god knows how long then some yuppies mo
  2. Hi, mate. I can't comment on spring kits but I do have a Lightning with a gas-ram. It did go some way to address some of it's issues, smoother to shoot, less mechanical noise and no need to worry about leaving it cocked for too long, however, it did nothing to solve it's biggest problem. It's still a Lightning.... They are flawed. It still has a crap trigger, it still kicks like a .223, the builds still rubbish and it still has that stupid scope rail. Oh and the BSA mod's a joke. Instead of spending loads of cash on what you've got, you'd do much better getting rid and buying a bet
  3. Hi, Jack. Sounds like you and the other lads have covered most things, screws, mod, duff scope etc. but one thing that makes me think is you say you can get a zero on your range then when you get to your hide, it's changed.... If you're holding your HW in a different position i.e. say you zero prone then shoot sitting in the hide, that may well move the P.O.I. Fussy buggers, springers. You need a very consistant hold shot to shot. Cheers.
  4. Hi, mate. The 99's the better gun out of those two by far. Build, trigger, the way it shoots, the lot! One question though... Why shell out for another gun? If you've got used to a PCP, you may find a springer not so easy to shoot if you're not used to them. Why not just buy a pump for your BSA? Cheers.
  5. Bon jour! Depends on what you're wanting it for... Out of those two the Lighting's more powerful as the 50's aimed at the junior market and not really made for hunting. That said, in terms of build quality the HW makes the BSA look like a 1970's Skoda... Have a look at the HW95 and 99 too. Far better than the BSA in every way. Webley make some nice springers aswell. I'm guessing from your question that you're looking for something on the light side? Cheers.
  6. Hi, mate. Tell us a bit about yourself then, don't keep us in the dark!! Cheers....
  7. Is it a fixed power or a zoom? If it's about 2 and a half inch, if that's the inside dia (the lense)then it's a 40mm scope. If you've maesured the outside then it's a 32, either way 20 feet's probably too close for it to focus properly.
  8. Hi, mate. If you're indoors it may well be that you're too close. What scope are you useing? How far away are you trying to focus on? Cheers.
  9. Hi, Jasper. That's less than 1.5% variation and that's pretty good, mate. I really wouldn't worry about that, it's good going. Cheers. Edit to say... If you were anal enough to weigh the pellets, you'd most likely find a bigger variation than that.....
  10. Hi, mate. Give Wighill Park Guns a try. I've used them a few times and they've been really good. Not far from you either. Cheers.
  11. Hi, mate. Springers don't tend to like really heavy pellets and the Mags weigh in at a hefty 21 grains. They were originaly developed by H and N (as the Baracuda) for the U.S. market and sold by Beeman under there own brand. You'll lose at least 10% power from your and added to the fact that they are so heavy, the velocity will be VERY slow in a sub 12ft-lb gun. Unless you're a God of range estimation and get to know the tragectory inside-out, you'll find it very hard to place shots at range. Try some of the other pellets sugested by the other lads. I've had good results with H an
  12. Oh dear, short fuse, what a shame......
  13. I've had a splitting head ache more than a few times but I hope I never get one as bad as that!!
  14. Rifle, I mostly close my left eye (right handed and eye) but not totaly. Shotgun, both eyes open always, as has beem said. Vinagar stroke, dunno. Busy... Cheers.
  15. whats right with it.. not hard to shoot somthing that is sleeping in a tree is it.. or having just fed is roosting unable to fly cos its digesting its food.. not sporting and a VERY LAZY WAY TO HUNT!!! but! less Sky pests the better.. Have you ever tryed shooting woodies with an air rifle shooting woodies with an air rifle is so easy its unreal .. if you cant even get close to em to shoot em with out spooking them then you really are a crap hunter .. decoys are made to BRING THEM TO YOU! i love it when people who cant shot or hunt for shit bitch keep it up .. lol for
  16. It's not JD, mate. This fella can spell......
  17. Hi, mate. Nothing wrong with an Airspoter. If it's working as it should, it'll do all that you could reasonably want. Old-school but still more than useful if you do your bit... With practice they don't really take any longer to load than a break barrel and they're no more pellet fussy than most springers. The only thing you need to consider, pellet wise, is like most older UK made springer's is the barrel's are 5.6mm as most continantal and more modern stuff uses 5.5, so pellet choice needs to be made with that in mind. The taps do tend to be a weak point, as has been said. They
  18. Hi, mate. If you've not got a chrono, then you need to find someone who has, gun shop, whatever. If you've bought the gun and it's not been dicked about with, then don't lose too much sleep. It should be ok. Cheers.
  19. I can relate to that. Twice... Messes with your head. Cheers, my mate. Don't let it rule your life. It all happens for a reason, I believe.
  20. I'm going back to the mid 's when I used to fix the bloody things for a living but I'm sure I'm right on that one. It was a very common mod on those back then (a-hem..), so it may well have already been done. It is a nice way to make the .22's shoot a little better, they rarely gave much more than 10ft-lbs as standard. Is it the standard or the 'S'? Lovely walnut stocks on the S. Cheers.
  21. Hi, mate. I've heared of that mod on Aisporters and Mercuys but I've never tried it. One thing I have remembered is the piston heads on the .177 rifles allows for a greater swept volume to counter the fact that the smaller caliber is less efficient.... Cheers.
  22. Hi, mate. (Davy!!) Like Markman's said, a good clean and polish session never goes amiss but don't go mad with the polishing. It's one thing to clean off any rough edges, another to widen the tolerances so that the piston slaps around in the cylinder when you fire... A couple of points to watch for on those are, firstly the piston seal's a rubber 'O' ring and can be very easily damaged when slideing the piston back into the cylinder past the end of the cocking linkages slot. They are always sharp on the inside and want to shave a bit off the seal as it slides past. Useing a small round
  23. I was having a chat to a mate about this the other day. We were wondering why they are all mad, then it dawned on us... There is no why. There is only is..... Cheers.
  24. I've never shot myself but..... Back when we were kids, we used to empty the shot out of 12g cartridges then put them in a vice, x-head screwdriver against the primer, then hit the handle with a hammer. It was all good laughs and bangs for a while 'til one day, a primer blew back and took the end off my little finger. Stupid dumb-f**k or what..... Kids, bless! Embarassed Cheers.
