  1. Excellent post ,about time someone factored in the going ,it makes so much difference.
  2. Great pics ! To remember a good day by!
  3. They sound just the ticket ,I think I will get one!!!!!!
  4. A 3/4 whippet x 1/4 beddie would fit the bill imo, something like Magwitch's Ted, some of his posts in the ferreting section may show him.
  5. I can see where you are coming from Whin, but seriously, do you think that anyone would put themselves to all that trouble for just £30 quid? Incidently, why do you say £30? If that would be the cost of one book then you'd be hoping to sell a damn sight more than one copy!!! Also, I've been thinking of doing a book on Lurcher health and maintenance but I've been assured by several publishers that they think it would be a very limited market and barely worth the cost of publishing. My problem is that although I have a fairly extensive knowledge about a lot of things, I am the original j
  6. if you decide to put your experiences down on paper Whin ,I would guess they would be very interesting ,just make sure you get a good translator.
  7. Chalkwarren, reading through Whin's PRICKLY QUESTION read your post about wanting to write about lurcher health @ maintenance. There is a book called The Care and Maintenance of the Racing Greyhound , I've not got it myself but I got a look at it a while back,I reckon it's probably regarded as the greyhound bible, the authers are 3 American vets, it's packed full of information, maybe if Dan Edwards reads this he might have had a look at it and confirm what i've said I have tried to purchase it from Amazon they wanted £150 second hand, to expensive for me,regards W G H Sounds a good
  8. That is not realy one of your better questions Whin,.. 20,000 + members on THL,...I don't think there are many book writers amongst them,..but,.I could well be wrong Kinda get yer drift though,... Regards,..E. Hemmingway... Well, this does not apply to you Ernest.
  9. I dont know i assumed cats that assumption comes from the days when i got regular phone call from an old fella we became friends with , who used to reel of a list of things he had shot , feral cats being one of them & a turkey he ran over that was so big i couldnt pick it up I think its pigeons he is referring to Kay.
  10. Well done good action shots .Magwitch and I were out Sat ,he has posted in the ferreting section.
  11. Keep us up to speed with the pups ,I would be interested to see how they come out.
  12. I have to echo the other posters,I'm afraid why would you want one? I have two crossbow bolts in my conservatory,I found them on my permission, they were embedded in a dead swan, two weeks later "William Tell" killed its mate. I would have liked to "interview " Master Tell , but sadly he has not resurfaced.
  13. You can buy stopper protectors from the Greyhound Shop in Chiswick, they come in either waxed cotton or leather ,and ,are fastened with velcro, vet wrap does the job too , with maybe a pad of cottonwool on the stopper. The wrap can be glued on at the start of the day if needs be, just be careful not to wrap too tightly.A good hardener for the stoppers[and pads],once the cuts are healed ,is surgical spirit..
  14. Nice hutch you got there Steve! What's that ferret on ? Intravenous vodka?
  15. Swoop was a well known and well thought of bitch , others on here, such as Marco, and Miles etc could give more detail,Swoop 's brother was Rooster, their parents [i beleive] were Merlin / Eve, and those out of Fly /Hoover,I think. Rooster was the sire of Drax,, and Braddie's Roxy among others. Many, coursing dogs are saturated with this blood , in fact it would probably be difficult to find a top bred litter that did not have this blood in it at some point. It has become a cliched selling point when advertising a coursing litter for sale , eg ," From Merlin /Eve lines", but has the
  16. No pain ,no gain ,but look at all the memories of days out with you and your dad you are storing up
  17. I forgot to add what a chore carrying his ferret boxes is ,because, when I put the strap over my shoulder the box reaches down to my ankles. I drove his car along the orchard the other day, while he was picking up the long net,I couldnt see over the wheel!
  18. Great stuff Tomo,my mate worked the door of Josephines in Sheffield years ago ,his then girlfriend ,later his wife had A welll known Liverpool footballer give her this line ,I wont say his name because he was married ,and is now dead, he hit on her and she gave him a knock back ,,he came back with ,"but I am ********," she said "yes I know and I think you are crap".
  19. My partner in crime Magwitch has a couple of bits of long net spare, we were talking today about getting 4 poles from Magnum Trap Company and converting them into stop nets for bisecting hedges , I think they are about £3.95p each and come with grommets supplied.I will be sending for them next week. The address of the company is at the beginning of the Forum homepage. Grommets? what are they for and how do you fit them? They come allready fitted and are slidable ,they act as a stop for your line to which your net is attached.
  20. Perhaps you should change your name to Fin? I remember a story by Ian Niall ,caled Bob Of The Whins, does it mean reeds, or something similar?
  21. Don't know about hardcore, after a few hours of that rain ,my saggy bits were all wrinkly,I looked like a rather big pink prune.
  22. Mind you Whin I am only 5 foot 8in, we dont catch a quarter of your tally ,but hey, you can only catch what's there can't you?
