The owner of Lucky told me the dog just did it naturally,I have his son here, he ran the same ,but, unfortunately was not as good ,but then few were . LUCKY WAS TRULY AN EXCEPTIONAL DOG.HAD PLEASURE OF SEEING HIM RUN. Me too, I would rate him as good a male dog as I have seen.

P is a crafty one ,it was the cammo and wax jacket boys who got the leathering,he posed as an innocent bystander. Only joking ,hats off to all who were at Parliament Sq that day.

Yes you were mate ,remember Westminster? That got a bit lively, but we gave as good as we got,I knew it would be hairy ,I did half the 6 to 2 shift ,had a shower and trained up to London, coming through Horse Guards Parade, I saw a squad of mounted Old Bill without ID on their shoulders .I knew the crack then ,as I've been on a few picket lines. You are one of the Good Guys J,Good Hunting

I think I can say I made every march /demo I could ,losing work/money ,was not a consideration, providing cover for shifts, occasionally was.

It doesnt seem that long ago I had a go at you for dividing us into groups ie poachers and those with permision, or was it because you were blaming poachers for this ban like what the red coats and the coursing clubs did to some degree in the fight to try and stop the ban or maybe both? As for me dividing us into groups thats not true all Iam doing is being a realist and saying it as it is or are you naive enough to think any other? Yes I play my cards close to my chest which is how I prefer it and how its gona stay I have as much faith in the CA as I do the red coats Hope I was not

Everything, but onions, raisins and grapes all of which are toxic to dogs.

I think you have misunderstood my first post so read it properly A question for you inan: Do you think the red coats will march for coursing/lurcher work if the ban gets relaxed for fox hunting with hounds? I think I did misconstrue your post, well ,part of it, but, not your hobby horse "the toffs, in their red coats ,[actually hunting pink] . Why divide us into groups Joe? The C/A has pledged to defend ALL field sports, I cannot speak for others. I belong to the C/A as, for all its perceived faults ,"it's the only game in town". You seem to have issues with Fox hunts, and those t

Can I take it you know nothing of Freemasonry CP? I do not think it belongs in this frame. As to M P's who have defrauded us ,chuck them out ,I am with you on that. What pisses me off are the adverts/warnings on the TV about benefit fraud. I've no problem with them being brought to answer for their misdeeds ,but their misdemeanours pale beside the greedy antics of MP's who are not strapped for cash to start with.

Fair play to both of you ! You sound a couple of real genuine guys from your posts

The ban was brought in under the guise of animal welfare ,but it was effectively class war, which you seem to be doing your bit to keep alive Joe. The Ban has actually made little difference to fox hunts ,and they have increased their membership. If you dont think the ban has affected coursing men ,all I can say is you don't do much of it. Recently two people were in court for attending a coursing meet one is a well known tv personality and a QC, the other is a Knight of the Realm. You talk divisively Joe, and we know what happens when forces are divided, they get conquered The "Red Coat

Have a look at Magwitch's little black dog in the ferreting section.

I do not beleive a bullx can compete with a purpose bred saluki x for hare coursing ,as I said I would expect Bull x's to shine at other types of hunting ,with the accent on "heavy duty" work. Why the owners of these dogs feel the need to defend them so vociferously ,I don't know, they have their strong points ,but hare coursing preban ,is not one of them, imo.

I am glad this post was not addressed to me ,because I cannot make head nor tail of it!

Dan ,no greyhounds in the uk are selected to kill, and they only run a couple of bends on a track. Irish coursing which is still legal is all about pace on the run up.Some of their dogs are huge. I would not want a coursing greyhound, as one with a good mouth is actually undesirable, what is needed for that discipline is a dog that is fast and agile ,has a modicum of stay[for a greyhound],one that wins the run up ,turns the hare several times to amass points ,it has no relevance to hunting. Coursing greyhounds that run to kill and use their gob,ie hang off waiting for the other dog to tur

who feeds there dogs before lamping or runing
inan replied to FENS FEVER's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
DO NOT FEED A DOG BEFORE WORKING IT, IT CAN LEAD TO TORSION[TWISTED GUT]WHICH IS VERY PAINFUL AND LIKELY TO BE FATAL. -
Ballyregan Bob was a middle distance dog trained by Curtis,at Brighton Hove , he had speed enough to be considered for the Derby ,but stamina enough to beat marathon dogs. a bit of an anomaly. he is the great grandfather of my youngest dog. Like wise another well know fella used Sandman lines to create a great bitch called Lady,Sand Man was a middle/long distance dog. Obviously speed,or a modicum of it is needed in a dogs makeup, but, if it was the be and end all, breeders would have sought out sprint greyhounds ,would they not? Salukis, compared to greyhounds are slow, coursers hope to

never seen a bull cross that could catch a good winter daytime hare, and if it did by some misfortune;the hare running into something:it would be eaten before you could get to it,but all the butch tyro hunters will all be off to the fens now you've told them where they are, bull crosses are not running dogs, they're fighting dogs i disagree! ive seen plenty of well bred bull x's retireve shot hares! week in week out! on proper hare ground I think every one should keep the type of dogs they like. Having said that I don't recall ANY bull x's winning the Forley Cup, so can only asume

So ,it's a question of getting your dogs on terms and ,hoping they" reel them in "with their superior speed? I would love to see one of these courses.

disagree ,you say dogs cant learn to be clever \i say they can ,and run how you teach them SO U HAVE A DOG THAT RUNS 100% FLAT OUT? SO SUCH DOGS ARE VERY KEEN.SO A DOG THAT DONT LEARN TO TEMPER ITS PACE WILL CERTAINLY TAKE INJURIES,BE IT MUSCULAR/SKELETAL/OR FROM OBSTACLES SUCH AS BARBED WIRE. SO ITS EITHER GONNA LEARN 2 RUN A BIT SMARTER OR BY THE TIME ITS GOT OVER ITS INJURY IT WILL BE MAD KEEN WHEN TAKEN OUT AGAIN & RISK INJURY ALL OVER AGAIN???? ITS FINDING THAT BALANCE INBETWEEN & ITS A LOT EASIER SAID THAN DONE, COS IVE TRIED IT 4 YEARS.THERES NO WORSE FEELING THAN SITTING IN

That surprises me Dan ,I would have thought they were much longer,as I beleive the coyote can stay quite well.Ive learned something new. Inan, your'e a coursing man..... surley you know that 2 minutes in the mind is a lot different from 2 minutes on the clock ! Cheers. Point taken! How many times have I heard someone say "that must have been about 4/5 mins"? Estimations of the duration of a course are often like estimations of the length of a slip, very subjective, and dependant on who is doing it!I would not attempt to engage Miles in a debate on running dogs ,unless I wanted

I'm with you ,but I prefer a dog that runs,"within itself".I have a "goal keeper", now retired ,but I found it fascinating to watch him push his quarry away from hedges ect. I do think its a bit of a fallacy that all predominantly saluki blooded dogs are plodders, most are quick enough ,when they need to be,ideally you want a dog with a few gears.Ive never had a top dog,but I have seen enough to appreciate them and both running styles the "up and at em quick striker", and the" settle in behind opportunist" "the boxer" ,who bides its time, never going for it till it has lined up its prey.
