A bit of dry carpet under its arse after a long day, when its wet and cold wouldn't go amiss . wouldn't argue with that she was on the back seats goin home lads she just jumped strate in the back [bANNED TEXT] we wer puttin stuff in and the lad with camera fone took picture.. No worries, didn't mean to stick my nose in ,just an observation. I am running in Suffolk soon, long way from Kent, think the dogs appreciate a bit of dry padding under them on the return journey.Have a good season

Proper "ferreters best mate" ,that dog, in the right place at the right time and no bowling into nets, or not releasing bunnies, a well trained asset to a day out, a credit to its owner, and to its self.

My dogs have picked up a few of these ,with blue eyes too, allways in the same area. Had a real ginger one last season.

The Hare and the Swift Hound - The Benchmark Coursing Book !
inan replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Hunting Book's
I received my copy of Jonathan Darcy's latest book ,"The Hare and the Swift Hound ",on Friday . Just finished it. It is a photographic record, coupled with pertinent comments,of the eternal duel between our greatest mammalian athlete, The Brown Hare, and its pursuer, the specialist bred long dog. This is a book about coursing, and the dogs, and men ,that took part in it,[preban]. As such it is unsurpassed, both in the quality ,and the clarity of the photos, inside it. The photos of hares, are simply the best I have ever seen. They show Lepus in his natural habitat ,in full flight, ,at play, -
Magwitch and I took 14 today, not a big bag ,but nice healthy bunnies, he has put a post up , with pics on Pigeon Watch .

My big dog got a whack today ,I gave him flucloxallin, it is for skin ,tears anti bacterial etc.Amoxcillin is more for the throat, and chest it is a broad spectrum anti biotic.

East Of England autumn Exhibition Show
inan replied to inan's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I know what you mean, I was on the road at 6am ,£50 of diesel, got speed flashed on the way up.All afternoon slipping dogs for the speed jumping, bitten 3 times. Met some nice people, put a £70 dvd player up jointly with R as a raffle prize , all for free ,to do your bit for the Club, glad to do it ,but its an expensive day out, especially when there are some outside the ring having a pop behind your back. -
East Of England autumn Exhibition Show

Hands are ok now J , very nice to see you .I managed to see a bit of the showing the dogs looked of a high standard, and the judges were giving them a thorough going over with their hands. It was nice to see John Tredgett ,and his Missus , he's a good guy,I've walked a few miles on the fens with him in days gone by, same as with you. I wonder if the carping critics of judges realise that in many cases we do it for nothing and have to pay our own petrol, plus the several hours driving to and fro, to put in a full day judging. Its a thankless task really, you make one person ha -

dont know mate i had a walk up there class dogs on show hope pics are put on here I didn't get to see who won the Supreme Championship , busy slipping , but the classes looked strong. Magwitch has posted some pics of the speed jumping on Moochers, for anyone who entered a dog in it. -
I have a grandson here on Fridays, I never leave him in a room unattended with my three dogs,I think he would be fine but that isn't good enough.

I would only mark a dog down if its injuries were likely to hinder its every day performance of its work, ie ,ruptured tendons ,etc. Scars are not faults ,neither are they meritorious.
-
You don't get 'marked down' at a lurcher show,..it is only a beauty contest admitedly,.but there is some leaway for a bit of wear and tear, etc,..and most active breeds will have a few chips off their paintwork (myself included )..and all things being equal,..scars are invisable to a genuine judge... All the best,..CHALKWARREN.. The fella in your pic could judge a dog Chalky,as you well know. You were not so bad yourself either.

The lurcher as a hunting companion, or as a killing machine?
inan replied to Malt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
and also how u planning on killing a fox quickly when it could turn and bite ya ? pre ban I allways carry a knife, and use it where appropriate. -
Magwitch has a 3/4 whippet x 1/4 beddie you can't beat it for prey - drive and guts. I suppose the beddie gives nose and coat.
-
It's the East Of England Autumn Exhibition Show at Peterborough Showground this coming week end,a very good Lurcher Show run by then East Of England Lurcher Club, which allways attracts quality dogs, much of the show stalls are under cover, so if the weather is unkind, things still go on. I'll,be helping out at the Lurcher Show, come and have a look, and say hello too, if you feel like it.

Except when judging at a show .

Citronella, sprinkled on the bedding sometimes stops this ,I use shredded paper and have had success with it, big sleeping quarters encourage dogs to use a portion of them for a latrine corner too.
-
Sounds like it was a good day out,how did you get on, lamping the other night?

Wise words, spoken by a man who happens to be an excellent judge himself

I haven't given mine ,just quoted the gidelines, and recommendations ,of the BASC.Which was in response to Festa saying "hares are much easier to shoot with an air rifle than rabbits",and,"the skull on a hare is much thinner than the skull on a rabbit, making it much easier to kill". I think you need a longer spoon . Only serious Didn't you notice my spelling mistake? Too late I've edited it out Damn! Arse and feck it!!!! Missed that one!!! Really though, what do you think about an airgun's use to shoot hares. I've shot many over the years with them and I've

I dont care if the Hare has a machine gun, its still getting whacked Thats the attitude, show no mercy.
