i am proud of the country that has housed and raised me all year round, i do not need a specific day for such celebration. saints on the whole mean little to me being a heathen/pagan.My original post was merely to highlight the fact that the patron saint you hold in esteem was forced upon you by an invading/conquering force. as for the country being flooded by "foreign influence" it was BORN out of foreign influence as has already been discussed above. i can imagine when the Saxons came, the people before would winge, "these bloody foreigners wanting us to change to suit their ways....move on

St george was forced upon the english people along with his cross as a national flag by a foreign invader/conqueror (the normans) and we lay down and wore it. The true patron saint of england was the saxon king edmund, killed by the danes. our national flag was the white dragon on a red background. (saint george killing the dragon) foreign invader suppressing the conquered...makes me smile, all these "patriots" when you get certain types banging on about engerland and st george and how they wont bow to the foreigner....oh the irony....
