  1. Hence the reason not many keep them pure..........It is a big shame though, there is a line of nice whites being kept pure. The males come pure white with yellow legs and Beaks, with the females are all white with salmon coloured breasts. A lot of the females come with Spurs and the whole family have small straight 'Combes' with little 'Wattles' and tight facial skin......Peas in a Pod, BUT small, with the males top weights of less than 4lb. The guy who keeps them appreciates their history and only the best of what he breeds gets kept alive. They are 'Jerazanos' and came to the Country over 25
  2. I have always allowed 10 days to clear one male and then another 8-10 days to consider the Eggs fertile from the new male. 18 to 20 days in total. Which is why, with some breeds it is important to change the male early enough.
  3. A couple of tips. Check the mould before you first use it, making sure they both come together dead flat. Warm them up while Lead is melting, make sure you use something strong to hold them together, fill the mould fully, once the main excess is clipped off tumble the ammo for a few minutes. All add to the finish.
  4. I have been researching prices on 'Theraband' of all colours. Mainly looking at the 5.5mtr sizes, last a lifetime, along with what I have here. The difference in price between all the colours, up to and including silver is a couple of pounds at the most. Then you get to Gold and it's not far off DOUBLE the price of it's next strength down, silver. For me, not economically viable, so silver is my choice......21.24 including P&P for 5.5mtrs. ASDA Bands are inexpensive, but they last nowhere near as long, plus you would only really use the one colour most times, the red(medium). So not viable
  5. I think there was more Rubber content in the inner tubes back 40 or more years ago or we were just not too demanding shooting Cans etc. Eventually the Milbro ones became readily available as 'Toys' and able to kill Pigeons etc, they caught on. Along with them came the square elastic, which milbro used. As usual it was the kids with the money who could afford to buy them.....lol. It seems now, you can have a work of art.......as long as you have the coin spare.
  6. Nearly 50 now and spent many an hour making a Catapult. I was looking at some Catapults on the market recently, while some are properly engineered and 'professionally' done, I really hope the 'art' or locating and working a natural 'Y' into a useable Catapult doesn't get put to one side. When we were kids we just had a sharp Pen Knife, the Tongue of an old Shoe or Boot and some Inner Tube, then it was out in the Woods looking for a nice 'Y' to finish off with. If we were lucky someone would get hold of Sand Paper, just to take off the roughness your Knife scraping couldn't.........the point wa
  7. Constructive criticism?.....swap the Buckle and D Ring locations around. I have found that way to much safer, especially for Dogs on Chains and strong pullers.........for me.
  8. Bang on.f**k all that putting logs, branches ,rocks etc in the bottom to try and rebuild the tube then the next time you work that earth if the gear ends up in the same blockend you have to dig through all that shit. This reply says more about you and your Terriers than I reckon you realise.
  9. Please don't get your Pensioner relatvie a 'failed Terrier'! Years ago I gave away a Bitch Russell, double inbred on 'Pieman', to a Family looking for a Pet. It was a neighbour of my Wifes relative and the Bitch loved kids, having jibbed one Sunday I was going to cull her. The guy was always pestering me for a Pup or an older one that didn't do what I needed it for. So, because of her personality, she went to this family. I said to keep her on a long Leash for a Month or so, until she settles a bit and gets used to them. The very day she was let off, she went to ground and was down for 7 hours
  10. You can have them for nothing mate...........may want a favour one day or if they are any good, I will have a couple youngsters back in the future. I can meet you somewhere en route from yours to mine, I don't mind too much, closer to me the better. Which way would you come to get to Plymouth?
  11. I have one polecat coloured male, born 18th May and another polecat coloured male born 4th June, % wise a bit more than half Brothers. I have one Polecat coloured female and one white female, Sisters, born 4th June. all my stuff is related to each other and are the medium to smaller type, not got Heads like Cats! I would be happy to keep all of them, but people have asked and these won't get much work alongside my others too.
  12. I live in Devon too, pretty much on the Devon and Cornwall border. These are this years young and do not bite and fed on Rabbit, with the odd Pheasant now and then, nice and fit..........was deciding what to keep, so they have all been treated the same, close to making a decision. You had Ferrets before?
  13. I ended up selling my Whippet bitch on, to a guy who didn't mind the yapping. I personally will not tolerate it, yapping is something you have no real control over. I gave my Bitch every scenario I was given and ones I thought of myself, nothing worked. I gave her 5 Months from when she chased her first Rabbit and several weeks after she started catching regularly.....still yapped. Easy ones?.....she just yapped for a shorter period. My advice, for now, would be to sit on her for a Month or so, still early in the season and in her life. Work on obedience, retrieving, recall, fitness and stock
  14. I have a couple can go, they are the smaller type, if you want to meet me somewhere........message me and we can chat, up to you.
  15. That's fair comment, just out of interest which rabbit would you be wanting the dog to run and which one is the problem? would you prefer a squatter yet the dog sees movement further afield or would you lamp the moving rabbit and the squatter would jump up and the that would be the unwanted rabbit. I'm not trying to be clever or catch you out it's a genuine question because the way I see it those situations could arise once the dog is slipped from a lead or just left your side without being slipped anyway In 'Falconry' when a Bird is distracted from what it was slipped on and goes after th
  16. Sometimes, it's not the 'head count' which shows class, it's HOW the 'head count' was achieved. I have seen lots of Hares being kicked up out of their seats, to be chased and caught by pacey, stick like glue dogs. I have also seen slips where there was at least yards law, on the Fens, with January Hares with some of the course on Plough and a kill has resulted. I often wonder how much 'Winstrol', 'Decca' or 'Testex' has been used, over the years, along with some of the lactic acid inhibitors. Obviously, if you are serious and want to give your dog every chance, a 'pre-keep' and then 'keep' o
  17. Nasher, I have heard many, many times about dogs and their achievements on an outing. I never get overly impressed, due to circumstances and conditions some high numbers are possible. I have been up and down the Country over the years and seen a lot of sport. Some of the local Hunts around me would comfortably 'dig out' a couple of brace or more in a day............some Hunts may have only get one dig a meet, some none! Country, population, experienced Field etc, etc. You were happy with the 7 on the Golf Course........all that matters.
  18. i got an old bitch that did thirty on the bounce with out missing ,she missed the 31st going under a rail fence into a railway box .she did that in front of two individual witnesses who are members on here I wouldn't get the chance to run 31 Rabbits in one outing where I go, for one reason or another, especially in less than 2 hours........it must be a nice nights lamping.
  19. You don't need a Knife for gutting, I always squeeze the guts out of Rabbits these days, with the Knife laws being what they are! It isn't hard with practice.
  20. Between 58 and 65 days, BUT that is from when she conceived. She may have conceived a day or two after the last mating, so just keep an Eye on her. She will get really low in her Belly, a waxy discharge from her teets and she will start to Nest and pant and generally look uncomfortable. 58 and 65 days is a guide.
  21. If I had a male someone felt worth breeding to, due to his ancestry AND quality, I would need to feel the same about his Bitch and there would be Pups changing Hands, but no money. The Pups would be the ONLY reason for the pairing and the future of the working Terrier the driving force, for all of us benefitting from the Litter.
  22. To be fair, I have seen a few dogs get sorted out through regular hard work, especially with a Bull in the mix. Get into their Head and understand the Bull and it could be a good dog. You can't put in what isn't there, Heart and the rest can be worked on. A little pricey, due to it's current faults, BUT that's just me.
  23. Years ago, I had a couple of deep and meaningful conversations with George Newcombe, bit of a language barrier, but we got there every time....lol. Among other things, there were two things came of our talks. The first one is YOU WILL NOT find a 'pure' working Bedlington, never mind one regularly going to ground on a worthy opponent. The second was that George would never give or sell me one of his dogs for 'Digging', he said they weren't sensible enough and would do or die. He offered me a little Bitch, killing Foxes regularly, but I had to promise not to work her in deep places and work her
  24. My Lamping Battery for my 'lightforce' isn't holding charge any more, so I need to get replacement. I have a Clulite CB2 Lamping Kit, spare, I would swap for a Battery Pack or an 6x24x56 Nighteater Scope, with sunshade I would swap. Anyone in or around the Plymouth area? I got other things I could swap, depends on the quality of the Battery Pack. Fairly urgent, we have a few Lamps between us, but mines 'titts up' so.....
  25. 25" and lower, big enough for everything I have done. Had a 22" Bitch take down Roe and Fallow, kill Fox and tackle other things until I got there to assist. She had some Hares, but not many about, along with dozens of Rabbits. As a Pup she won the 'simulated Coursing' at the Welsh. I gave her away, obsessed and busy with my 'digging' in those days. It's down to the amount you do with them, they learn nothing sat at Home.
