Your explanation was it is an older Hen trait. I had previously said I had Hens who had made a sort of Crowing noise, who also had Spurs and dominated all the loose Birds, male and female. In order for it to be an old Hen trait, in my situation, they would of had to of been born as 3 year olds. I didn't say you hatched 3 year old Hens. You must be right though, I must be a know nothing nobody who spouts "crap", it's obvious, look at my 'username'. I promise not to taint this Topic or any others any more, after all, people like UKRoosterman has learnt all there is to know.

I am a little confused now, thinking you were right of course, the Hens I had were obviously Hatched as 3 year olds.

. Shamo that is the biggest pile of crap I've ever heard!..... All inbreeding will do is concentrate the genes what's already there..... If what your saying was right..... Then if you keep line breeding to hens side after time the cocks will start laying eggs...... Uk . Shamo that is the biggest pile of crap I've ever heard!..... I am no Biologist, so can't talk factually. I have come across it before and I always thought it was because there was too much inbreeding to the male side. I have had Hens with Spurs, sort of crowing and dominating males and females when out loose. I like Hens to be Hens.

I am a fan of Green Legged Birds, but, as always, a good Animal can't be a bad colour. When I see nicely put together and good acting Birds, I love to see the Birds which produced them. The Cocks always get the "wows" and the "cors" though, but I love to see the Hens, nice feminine looking ones.

It is amazing when you think about it, how you can have the exact same Foundation Birds as someone else and get far better results, due to which way you set up your Brood Pens and your style of Breeding. Breeding on the Cocks side or the Hens side or the Grand Fathers side or Grand Mothers side, Brother x Sister etc, etc. Exact same Blood just blended in a different way............that is where the years of experience of some, play their part. Hence the reason we have prefix names like McClean Hatch, Gavilan Hatch, Ruble Hatch, Boston Roundhead, Lacy Roundhead, etc. Something a lot of beginner

Some guys are more successful than others and the Brood Pens are where the success starts. I do what I do and others will do what they do, whatever makes you happy, but there is a lot of rubbish on the Internet and Book educated people. There are not many guys who will tell the whole truth about how they achieve their results, it is a competitive World....lol.

Rodger Caton is an arrogant twat and Poacher turned Keeper. Unfortunately, he is considered an EXPERT in the laws Eyes............Lenin said that "if you tell lies enough times, eventually they become the truth". To prove his point about steadiness of Captive bred Birds, he uses a DVD of an obviously Hand reared Haw Finch and goes on to explain that Captive bred Birds will stay on their Perches and not flit around when you go near them. He also adds the lie about the Black Leg thing! SOMEBODY needs to be available for the defence when these cases get to Court, SOMEBODY with years of experience

Breed ONLY from Cocks and Hens, even if you have to wait for the next season. A GOOD Hen is worth half a dozen good Cocks and don't flock breed, even from Sisters.

Both pairs could be 'Exchequer' crosses....who knows...lol. The first ones do seem fairly small, Who cares.....lmao.
-
I would say they are both Ancona crosses= Ancona come black with white spots, large amounts of red fleshy parts and white Ear Lobes, smallish game Fowl sort of size. I would say the cross of the second Pic are some sort of Table Bird, Leghorn, Plymouth Rock or something. Pheasant Fowl come with white Ear Lobes, but they are very Game Fowl looking and a pretty standard colour.

If there is Malay in there, it isn't visible

If nothing else listen to experience....it is priceless. You will go through a lot of Terriers and a lot of years, to find a 100% Terrier. I have only ever had 3 close to my 100%, in over 30 years, with many now making up the Flora of the Country!
-
Ditto that too......lmao.
-
Ditto that....about the Birds, not the other 'stuff'..lol.

I dip my Toes into this particular section, now and then, quite rarely really. I just start to contribute to an interesting Topic and then dirt flies and I leave that Topic.........surprised, because there are plenty of enemies outside the Fancy to cope with. Technology.......what a wonderful thing....lmao!

Go for the 'Black Falcon' set up, no quibble guarantee for life and it carries on with a new owner, regardless if they are not the original buyer. They are not outlandish in price and that guarantee is a great piece of mind.

5lb 10oz?........blimey. I was inspired by my Jerezanos for my 'Handle/Nickname', (not the one I use here) the biggest of which was 3lb 4oz....lol. White Hackles being the heavyweights of the day with comparable weights to your Hennies. I have never had true Hennies, people didn't like them to be passed around. I had a Hells Angel pal from the North of the Country who had some, they were muffed, although I doubt he had the weights you have Hatcher.

I always like looking at the older and RIP fellas in 'the Fancy'. The Birds are closer to the original imports and the guys didn't have the advances in technology/modern Feeds etc there is now. Obviously meaning, it told them more about their stock, which, in a lot of cases can't be said of late. There wasn't the passage of information and communication we also have now.
-
Just some advice Hatcher...don't put any more Asian Blood into your Hennies, I doubt you will gain much as first crosses.
-
Price depends on quality. My tip is to buy 'Carriers', they are cheaper and you stand a good chance of getting the young you are looking for, although you have to know who you are buying from. I had a Book somewhere which has a colour chart in it for Greenies and tells the reader what to put with what and what to expect. I am sure others have it for you to see.

When I first started in the Birds, most 'Travellers' weren't interested in the smaller ones. If you kept a mix of Asian and Yank, then they would just grab what you had, but the Asians would bring them there. Friends of mine, like me, wouldn't have any Asian Game Fowl near their Yards, not even the odd Hen for crossing.

I gave some Birds the spitting image of that to the President of one of my Game Fowl Clubs years ago, a nice fella no longer with us, Ralph White. He was happy with them and I had some Ruble Hatch from him and a young Green Leg Hatch trio. I don't like Teepees, had too many Birds hung up over the years, try a Barrel.
