  1. I honestly had no interest in this breed, but from seeing some of these dogs on here thats changed. These proper looking ones look much stronger and sturdier than the little lamb looking things I seen before.
  2. How long is a piece of string mate!?..lol. If you dig them with all out bayers, that want to sit 8" away, and sing, they are not much hassell imo,...if you want to see the best (or WORST!) from a Raccoon, you should dig them with a mixer, or a gritty type of dog...they are much harder than a fox, imo, and have the hide/fat/body of a Badger...they have FIVE weapons (four hands and a mouth full of good teeth) and will ball up on a dogs head...plus they have the I.Q of a monkey!..lol..i have seen a 25lbs raccoon run through tunnels in a hay loft with two dogs hanging off of it...and it was m
  3. Sound, just how hard are Racoons compared to some of our native species here in the UK?
  4. I know they're illegal to posses here in the UK, but I was wondering if any members outside the UK works them? I know they're used for Boar and Cugar a lot but is that all they're used for? I'd like to know more about them and what any owners of them here on The Hunting Life have to say about them.
  5. a whip of the lead can cause them not to come near the lead when your wantin it on the lead Can I ask if you have used this method to correct your dogs before? Be honest! I've disciplined my dogs with the lead from day one, and my dogs go mental with excitement when they see me reach for the lead to take them out for a walk, So I don't agree I'm afraid. A dog will shit itself just by you walking up to it if you go over the top and lash them for nothing and lash them too hard, let alone shitting themselves from seeing a lead. I'm talking about a quick lash across the ass and a fi
  6. I didn't start mine until he was about 18 months old. Some people won't let them anywhere near a hole until they're 2 years old. All depends on the dog I suppose and when you're confident enough that the dog is ready for it. We're at the arse end of the season now anyway, so just wait until next season, hopefully by then you will of linked up with someone who will be willing to take you along with them to show you how its done. What ever you do, don't get over eager and do something you'll end up regretting with the dog.
  7. I wouldn't enter him at 9 months mate, way too young. If you get someone to take you, chain him up and let him have a look, let him have a rag once it's been shot.
  8. It's every terrier mans dream that is, fair play to the lads over there for getting out there and getting such excellent results.
  9. he's eleven and a half inches to the shoulder, and 17pounds Yeah, I like the Nuttall's I do, I bet there's not many places he couldn't get is there. How many digs you had to him?
  10. I understand rules are rules and to keep the forum running smoothly rules have to be adhered to, but Pick'N'Shovels thread was put up before Christmas if I'm remembering correctly? So why has it been left up for so long if it shouldn't be in this forum after so many people had posted replies into it? It's none of my business and I've no interest in getting involved really, but it is a bit out of order IMO.
  11. Nice little Nuttall you got there mate, how tall is he tts?
  12. I'm not sure you can say what breed is best, as you can see from the replies already that there's plenty of different breeds and cross breeds being mentioned.
  13. A good lash across the ass if they play up. I use the end of the lead which is leather to give them a good lash, that way you've got no worry injuring them if you lose your cool too much and end up kicking them too hard. Plus the sound of being whipped startles them as well, its a quick sharp pain and a lesson learned for them.
  14. SA37 is good for pregnant bitches and pups. Sling a bit of that in her grub as there's not just a calcium boost but a boost in all sorts of other valuable vitamins and minerals. Best of luck with the litter mate!
  15. Rich I don't want to sound like a sh*t head, but its a dog mate! Treat it like a dog and all will be well. Leave it to cry, when it understands that you're not gone forever and that he will see you in the morning when you get up, it'll stop crying and get used to the routine. Sounds a nice cross though, Is this your first dog? Best of luck with it!
  16. Looks like you're going to have to stop using her for bushing in areas where you don't know all that well mate. If she's flying to ground now without you wanting her too then I'm not sure what you're going to do to stop her. Any ideas from the more experienced terrier men on here?
  17. This is a recipe for a Venison pie that I got out of a little recipe book called Favourite Game Recipes << (click on the link) I picked this book up for just £1.50 and I would recommend it to anyone who's into their cooking. It isn't just Venison but it has a good few real nice venison recipes in there mate. Ingredients - 2lb Venison (cut into 1 inch cubes). 2 oz flour. Pinch of Ground mace. Pinch of All spice. Salt and Pepper. 5 fl.oz red wine. 5 fl.oz red wine vinegar. 10 fl.oz venison or beef stock (I used Beef stock). 2 onions (Peeled and sliced). Half a tablespoon
  18. Nah don't know of anyone at the moment, have a mooch about in the buy & sell forum mate, give the countryman's weekly a good browsing aswell, theres usually adds in them. In saying that it is best that you buy pups from people you know, as you can be 100% sure on the parents working ability and that the litter hasn't just been bred so that the owner has got a bit of jingle in his pocket to go on the lash with.
  19. Yokel that is spot on mate! z1000steve - I've got mine in the house, and it don't get in the way with their work ability, they are either grafters or not. Its just as Yokel said though, if you've got a family they will get attached to the dog as it will be a pet to them, and when it comes back half lashed out of it, the odds are the pan lids will be upset and your bird will have a good moan at you. Mine did, and still does so just a warning if you are going to have a working dog in the house like. Family aint a problem as my gf has has terriers before with her daughters dad
