  1. Hi Thanks for the replys, I should've been clearer though, the £500 budget is for the rifle only. (I have more set aside for the scope/bipod/mod etc) It doesnt need to be good at 1000m shooting just adequate. I'll probably be target shooting at 600m most of the time anyway. Wooden stocks I really dont like the look of, it will need to have a synthetic stock. Also is it alot better to have a free floating barrel or a varmint (heavy) barrel for long range target shooting? Which one is most important , or do neither matter that much? Keep the advice coming thanks
  2. The 6.5x55 swede is 'bigger' than the .308win ? The .308 has alot more energy (2100ft/lbs to 3000ft/lbs) so how do you work that out? The .308win is surely alot 'bigger' (more powerful) than just the 6.5x55 swede Cheers
  3. Hi I am going to get a .308 rifle some time in the near future. I would like it to be as far as possible a multi purpose rifle, so Id like to shoot long range targets at 1000m (not well but adequatly) and also use it for deer stalking. I know ideally I should get 2 rifles one for target and one for deer, however this one needs to be a compramise of the 2. So I thought it should have a heavy (varmint) barrel, so it can perform better at long ranges, but still it should be ok for use in deer stalking. The options so far (based on good reviews) in the price range Im looking at (sub

  7. A shot to the chest area of a rabbit will drop a rabbit as quick as a head shot, and in most cases stands less chance of bouncing off thick bone, which can and does happen from time to time with headshots. I will take your word on that one. I didn't spend long hunting rabbits with an air rifle, my rimfire followed PDQ. Back then, everyone I spoke to said to me to keep it to head shots. I did, and it did work fine. Logun - If you take a rabbit and a fox, a fox is about 10 times the weight of a rabbit (roughly!), and a 22LR has (roughly!) 10x the power at the muzzle. The ranges are the s

  18. I have a chance to buy a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40 scope very cheap at the moment. Before I do I just wanted to ask how much they are worth. By looking on various internet sites, mainly in america - I think it is worth at least £150 , is this right? http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-riflem...ifle-scope.html http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=126505243 EDIT: Are they any good as well? I thought because its Leupold the optics would be excellent http://www.opticsplanet.com/msgboard/post-7679.html Thanks
