  1. Lovely photos, snowdrops are quite a difficult subject, but you've got the light spot on here I actually like the first shot best I'd have preferred the second one if the snowdrop in focus was on a darker area of the background. it would make it stand out just that little bit more. I don't think you've lost your touch though, looking forward to seeing more
  2. Typical... very sad about the dog A couple of letters slagging off the RSPCA in the local paper last week... it seems they have little interest in injured wildlife, (in one case suggesting that the people left an injured owl sitting in a frozen puddle all night, luckily a local vet thought otherwise) I don't know what they do with all the money they raise, but little of it seems to go towards actually caring for animals in distress.
  3. Feeling for you Ferretville... never met either of my Grandads, but know what you're going through as I cared for my Dad through his last illness. It's hard to bear...
  4. Yes, some comments can be somewhat offensive There are keyboard warriors hiding behind "anonymous" user names on every forum, just have to remember that most of them are only 12 years old (or have a similar mental age) and when Mummy finds out what they get up to they'll be sent to bed with no supper. :realmad:
  5. Love the first one I'd leave the camera on auto - certainly seems to be working!
  6. What sort of gun? Strange way to break up a dog fight, risk of hitting the spaniel too I'd have thought. Did your friend actually see what happened?
  7. The milkman, and yes, I know it probably isn't British milk, good old Dairy Crest... It doesn't taste anything like the milk we used to get from our own dairy herd... Yes, I probably am somewhat bitter about the way supermarkets force out the little guys... and yes, I do believe it is still possible to produce quality food at a reasonable price, just got to persuade the great British public to buy it instead of spending their ill-gotten on essentials like 4 foot wide TVs. The dairy cows at the farm next door, and the beef cattle that roam our fields have a pretty good life they chomp
  8. Well, you'd better put me in the "animal rights", bunny hugging, anti group then because I think it's a revolting concept and quite apart from the welfare angle, what will it do to the few remaining dairy farms in this country? I'm with this lot on this matter.
  9. Cheers bud.Had the camera for four weeks.Think i have the basics a lot i will have to read up on and learn as i go.To get good photos think i will have to bring my fieldcraft into play. Was out for about 20 hours last week. All i have to show for it is plenty pics of the dogs atb. Catcher.PS. I have a big collection of bird calls Hopefully this will help Nothing wrong with taking lots of pics of your dogs... that's really how I got into photography. Fieldcraft is pretty essential if you're hoping to get good wildlife shots. It's very similar to hunting in that you need to know
  10. Cheers bud i got a 18-55 with the camera is this any good for landscapes This also VR That'll do the job just fine
  11. Have fun! The 70-300 lens will be good for wildlife and action shots, and the VR will be handy if there's not much light. A wider lens, something like 18-70 would be good for landscapes.
  12. You mean you want a camera that takes those sort of batteries? There is usually no reason why you can't use rechargeable batteries in cameras that take AA size or similar. If the camera has a specific battery deicated to that particular camera they can be expensive... a battery for one of my dslrs costs more than the whole camera in Kay's link. If you're looking for a small compact camera most of the top brands are good - Canon, Nikon, sony and Panasonic etc will all turn out good shots if the conditions are right. Don't be fooled by thinking more megapixels is necessarily better t
  13. That's a nice shot with the reflections in the lake
  14. What sort of camera did you get? There are lots of magazines out there on digital photography, but also some good websites for tutorials. ephotozine is a good place to start looking for help. Amateur Photographer is a weekly mag, it has some interesting articles, but also a lot of camera and lens reviews. Some very nice photos in there sometimes though...
  15. The UK government consider farmers to be a necessary evil, they just want them to keep the countryside looking tidy and pretty, full of lots of little furry feathery things for the day trippers to go "oooh" and "ahhh" over. Bugger food production, we can buy all that cheap GM, factory farmed, mycotoxin riddled crap from other countries. Hmmm Monsanto... real movers and shakers when it comes to genetically modified crops. Now where can we grow that? Oh, there's this bit of rain forest that no one's using...
  16. No more getting stuck in snow issues either
  17. You need a chainsaw for really spectacular self-mutilation...
  18. Poor little bugger! Cracking little dog - they all seem to love the snow
