Done it many times Milsey and realised afer I made a mistake. I'm pretty bored with it all at the moment and fancy going out and doing some fishing for a while, the gun will go in the Cuboard and sit there until I get the urge again. I have a Beretta Silver Pigeon sitting in the Gun cabinet too, its not been out for a good shooting session for a couple of years now but I won't get rid as I know I'll regret it later . Jasp

There's a guy on the Beating truck last year ranting and raving about all the cammo wearers at the fairs, he dubbed it "Rambolism" . got to agree with him in a way as some walk about like they've just got home from Nam or some sort of special forces job , then again! some blend in well if you can see them ....

thats one nice looking yellow bill, he looks like he's been well house trainned . sounds like you've had some cracking sport with the spars in the past Paulus , they're definitely gamey with a capital G. Me and a pal had a Musket each that season, both was reared to around 15 days and creched on a ledge together until penned, both came out lovely! a bit wild at first but soon steadied up without all the mantling and aggresion with some imprint female spars. we bother flew together through most of the season but my pal got out with his more often than me as at that time I

classic , how did she do on the blackbirds Here's a few pic's of one on a young magpie which it ditched in a small dyke and collard dove taken in a cow field which was quickly snapped with the old camera and scooped up as the cows was running over! as you may of guessed I'm scared shitless of cows. and a old one of a little Musket I took with the kodak camera a good many moons ago! and guess what he's caught? he was a cracking little fella and a real gem to fly back then....

no problem mate! next time we're out on the lamp I'll give you a good dousing in golden rain . Must admit though mate it went a bit ganky as I left its head in! I picked the bloody scab off the other day and there's still a black dot under the skin showing its heads still in there . Its a nightmare! the missus is covered in fleas and I'm covered in ticks . Could have done with somone spraying me with frontline the other week! picked this well buried in little fella out of the crease in back of my leg last week

we all get fired up mate now and again! all water under the bridge Dan thats a post straight from a sportsmans heart mate . you strike me as the sort of guy who would fight until his last breath to back up what he beleives in, can't fault that mate. I have always had a good relationship with keepers on land that I fly and shoot on, always get invites to the cock shoots amd always available to lend a hand repairing pens and the like, always also had plenty of banter about my Hooked beak friends . My sparrowhawk days finished long ago as has a vast majority of my falconry in a big w

Lets just agree to disagree CC We'll always have different opinions on this one mate! the world would be a sad place if we all agreed on everything. Have to say though! Hunting folk should stick together however we feel about other people activities, we're all in this together with a Majority of do gooders out to try and take it all away from us. Time to swallow our pride and and fight from the same corner .

Just seen this cracking 506 on Ebay! Its the cleanest I have seen on there for a good while . Jasper Ebay

While on the subject of birds! Wouldn't mind bumping into the bird in your avitar while out hawking Mick ....

You're talking like Hawking quarry such as Blackbirds is a relativly new sport? I can tell you 100% hands down this sport was practiced well before anyone took up arms with Rifles . I think you are getting wider and wider off the mark CC! You're questioning a sporting activity which is moraly more sound than many others, this is a sport where the quarry gets a fair sporting chance and otherwise makes its escape on many more occasions than actually caught. you say you have a HH? Just what side of the fence are you on? what you're going to do if your HH catches a Blackbird by accident while

spoken by a man who has been and done it and knows the score, spot on Paulus ...

You say we are all on the same side so why the controversy? do I question anyone else field sports on a open forum or anywhere else for that matter? infact I practice plenty myself. for starters I don't fly spars anymore so I am out of aquation but I certainly wouldn't condemn anyone else flying them under licence or anyone else's sport! flying blackbirds under licence is totaly legal. Blackbirds are not exactly rare either are they and never will be if all they have to worry about is a trainned spar, take a look at the household cat first. It seems to me that there's one hell of alot come

Look old mate! you come across as one of those who likes to come onto other peoples posts to do nothing but create controversy and arguements, now come out of little world and read my post again , not ONCE did I critisise Game shooting . infact I practice the f*****g sport myself so don't give me the moral high ground. I note you popped up on another topic before this one basically doing the same thing old mate, I suggest you read that one again and you will see I live on a Sporting shooting estate which puts down at least 15,000 pheasants and you're telling me all these go to the game dea

You're talking as if a trained spar is going to muller every Blackbird in the vicinity, this won't happen with the advantage virtually always with the fitter wild quarry, a Trained spar will never be as fit as the quarry you're flying even if you fly it everyday. you would be surprised how they struggle with Blackbirds in fair flight straight off the fist, there's always a very high percentage chance the quarry will make its escape knowing the terrain better than the trained hawk. People shoot and Hunt quarry everyday not always for the pot, Pheasants get shot for sport with some ending up

cracking pictures Millet! good job that Goshawk of your's wasn't loose at the time, reckon the squirrel would have given him a dusting ....

Good luck with the bird P Lad, he looks in perfect fettle . It will make a nice change from hawks! you'll certainly have some fun flying the black stuff. Jasper

spot on mick! you'll have some excellent sport mate . a guy down here had a cracking female which just got better and better every year! if you read some of the old books they always mention that Larks are only good for the first year and and lack lustre from the second year on! this is cobblers mate. she was perfect in the end standing off the larks until they finally dropped for cover, seen her so high on occasions you couldn't see the lark! she was litteraly just a little cross in the sky and often took the larks just feet from the ground, unfortunately she died from egg peritonitus in the

same for the lads taking larks Merlin hawking. Its also surpriseing how difficult it is to catch a cunning yellow billed cock with a trainned spar without some beating assitance. a quarry licence are usually granted no problem, certainly wouldn't be that many taken through out the season.

blimey I'm now thinking of putting it back again after that info , it was annoying me anyway because it wouldn't always pop out until I back wind! sod it its going back . Jasp

Much apreciated Arch cheers! some top info there mate I just removed one of the pickups, it wasn't a big deal as it was getting jammed most of the time anyway, its also greased up now and ready for action . atb Jasp

Wiped the side plate off Wilf and all looks ok! prbably do with Re-greasing apart from that thankfully things look ok Jasp cheers for the info Arch . out of interest should the drag still work if the anti reverse has been removed? I can totaly remove the drag nob in the middle of the handle and it still doesn't slip. One other thing! this reel has two line pickups and I'm sure the old 501 I had only had one? atb Jasp

Definitley classics Wilf . I would have liked the 506 but My brother brought me one in the late 70's and like a pratt I loaned it out in the 90's and never saw it again, it was still in the box with the spanner and spare spool too ., I wanted a 501 for sentimental reasons as well as to fish. I paid £15 for it all in Inc P&P, the guy never mentioned the anti backwind was removed and basically sold it as a original untouched. I can't get the drag to work either but I'm thinking if the Anti Backwind was removed this might also effect the drag? any help on this would be apreciated before
-
Just picked up a 501 off ebay but it seems its had its anti backwind removed, also noticed there is no drag either . I had one of these reels in the earley 's and loved it to bits! this one on the other hand seems a bit useless with no drag and just backwind. out of interest is this why the drag won't work because the anti backwind has been removed? anyone else got a ABU closed Face who might know what parts I would need to replace thr Anti Backwind? Jasper

Nice one Shamo sounds a nice quality bird . Go out and kick some arse with it mate . We had a disaster with the Goshawks this year and only ended up with four, the problem was the semen extender which we was useing which was killing the semen, thankfully the last few eggs we used neat semen and ended up with four fertile, if we used the extender for every egg I reckon we would have ended up with nothing! as it is we ended up with eleven eggs Infertile even though semen was flowing . Peregrine wise was a good year with ten out of eleven fertile, we lost one when it was breached and hatc
