  1. I have borrowed an old Nikon D70s,...and it is a vast improvement on my tiny holiday snapper camera My action pictures are no great shakes,...and I have noticed that images taken by my pal, on his Canon EOS 350D SEEM to be far crisper,.. and definitely far better quality.. With such an old camera,..is it worth my while,.saving money from my meagre pension,..to purchase a 300mm lens,..or will the body of the ancient Nikon D70s not be up to the task of supporting it ? Be nice to know...guys.. All the best,.CHALKWARREN...
  2. You will treasure those images forever,....
  3. i dont think there is a lot of over kill in a MK6 fenn trap, over the years i have had mink, rats rabbits ,and squirrels survive a whack ,off of Mr Fenns products. One of my ferrets was caught by a Fenn that had been set for rabbits, hes still running round his cage eighteen moths later ,with not the slightist sign of overkill. True....
  4. You are right ,.... I was born into the 'Mouching game',... I'm in it for the long haul.... Obviously folk come and go,..that is the nature of the beast,.but,..some lads decide early on that the lurcher OR terrier life is for them,.and they generally stick by their dogs through' thick or thin'.. IN comparison,.others will drift in and out of the lifestyle,.getting a new dog,.moving it on,.going for another hobby,..then after a year,.getting another,...etc,.etc... Sometimes I feel that I have had a wasted life,..but then, I think about the events of last 50 years,...and may
  5. IF you must dye your traps,.maybe try boiling up some Walnut Husks or Oak bark ,.and let them simmer in it for a while.. Before I imported the Trap Dye from the USA,.. I always treated my Fenns, Imbras and Juby's with the oak bark ,.and they turned nice and dark... BUT,..with any dye treatment,.it is best if the iron or steel has taken on a bit of surface rust... All the best,.CHALKWARREN Speed Dipping,....the traps will turn a nice mahogany brown hue,..BUT,.make the mix nice and thin,.or your traps will stay a tad sticky,.for quite some time
  6. AS you have so rightly said,.this is an entirely personal matter,.and like most things in the lurcher world,.it realy is a case of 'each to their own'.. .Indeed,.my own philosophy has always been,.'you do what you like,.and I'll do what I like',..end of.... : Personally,...I like to have my lurcher pups out at 12 to 16 weeks.... I want them to see EVERYTHING..... I want them to understand exactly what my job (and their future job) is all about,...and they have much to learn.... These days,..I am only a ferreter,...but I maintain that this method of catching rabbits can oft
  7. If you were really THAT desperate to feed your family wouldnt you USE THE DOG to catch some food for them? My dogs are not for sale, period. Iv never been asked to sell um but if i was the answer would be an instant no. I did once, while putting the dogs back in the car after a walk have an irish travelling type fella approach me and offer to fight me for them. Wont go into the results of that one but iv still got the dogs! Lol! Too right,...you should never starve with a good class Jukel,....well,.I never did....
  8. Yes you can through the smoke of burning cars, with the sweet smell of burning rubber and sound of the police sirens, makes me wonder why I left really. @ stevethefish....
  9. Don't you want to see my poor ancient lurcher dogs run some rabbits? I'll stay in the old caravan... err,.has it got a television : :
  10. Ian,...you have definitely got 'Snare Fever'.... And the bad news is,...there is NO known cure for it.... Cage traps are simply another tool in the pest controller's armoury,..and in certain conditions,.they will catch rabbits,.but nothing much beats a line of well set snares,... They are cheap,.easy to manage,...and they are DEADLY.... All the best,.CHALKWARREN...
  11. That is the best way to rear such future canine athletes,...'wild and free',...as it should be....
  12. [iNSTEAD! I will send you some illustrated instructions of where you can insert the "Rusty old original one" You may need to use some of your latex gloves Sounds fecking painful...,.
  13. Many thanks for that most erudite, and helpful information,...isuzu trooper ,...that's the one for me then
  14. I also need a wee 4x4,.just a second hand one,..for hauling traps around the fields,...does anyone know anything about a Daihatsu Fourtrak or similar smaller type of off road vehicle...
  15. Written with a passion and an authority born of experience.....
  16. Fully agree with the every one's replies,... NO excuse for getting pups into that poor state,...and you have done a good thing in fetching them home... MY advice would be to get yourself up the Butchers and beg some chicken carcases and bits and pieces.... Take it SLOW,.but gradually start to build them up,... AND,...if I may tell you something,.....many years ago,..a pal and me went to a Traveller's site to buy a dog or two... I couldn't find anything that I liked,.but as we were leaving,..my pal was approached by a guy who offered us two pups,.just like yours,..worse condit
  17. These callous creatures need a blade taking to them,...done and dusted,...
  18. A real PICTURE,....love it,..well done lads.... ....
  19. lets not get into a debate about best form of dispatch here, but from my dealings, most urban caught foxes, once caught, simple curl up and wait, the 410 can be inserted through the mesh, an inch away from top of skull and pull the trigger, job done getting the fox to "bite" the end of a barrel, would in my eyes constitute getting the fox distressed True... .
  20. Perhaps try the 'Crash, Bang, Wallop' CD tape... Start it off quietly,.and GRADUALY increase the volume.... Take it slow... All the best to you,...CHALKWARREN...
