  1. Some will die, some won't. They shouldn't need more than 2 jabs a year but normally one is enough.
  2. Mk1 finder half the price of a Mk3. Mk1 finder will locate any collar. Mk3 finder won't locate a Mk1 collar. Mk1 depth reading more accurate than Mk3. The battery life in a Mk1 8ft collar is at least 3 months (2100 hours) and sometimes as much as 6 months. This gives you a long time to find your ferret if you are unfortunate enough to lose it. So for a season you need 2 batteries at 50p each if you leave them in all the time. Considerably longer than the Mk3 battery life of 300 hours.
  3. This is expensive when you can buy one from an online shop for £60 plus £3 postage. http://www.airrifleshop.co.uk/Accessories/Ferrets.htm They also do a finder with one collar for £150 plus £3 postage.
  4. Would definitely be interested in a new Mk1 finder. The price second hand ones sell for on EBay I'm sure people would paid £75 for a new one. People blame the parts not being available but there must be modern equivalents around as it's only a few capacitors, resistors, transistors, potentiometers, cmos chips and an aerial.
  5. Good idea to get it pinned. I know of 6 people that repair finders and 5 that make new 8ft collars.
  6. There are a couple of DVDs that show setting traditional long nets Longnetting The Old And The New with Brian Brinded Rabbiting (Just Some Of The Methods) with Mick Mansbridge
  7. Normally out 3 or 4 times a week and have more permission than I can get round in a season. Although the way the rabbits are this year I'm going to get round it all well before the end of the season. Numbers are well down on previous seasons, a fair few places have no signs of rabbits. Double figures is a bonus whereas previously years a dozen was a bad day. Have a few days fixed up with members off this forum so they might report back with how things went.
  8. If any one is interested in joining me for a days ferreting then send me a PM with a contact number, how many ferrets you have and a post code so I can arrange something near you. Most opportunities will be mid week and ideally you should have at least 4 ferrets and 50+ nets. The area I cover is roughly between Coventry, Hinckley, Northampton and Southam.
  9. Assuming it is a Mk1 collar with a screw on cap then it will take either 393 \ AG5 for ferret collar 357 \ AG13 \ LR44 for terrier collar There is a significant difference in the diameter of the two battery sizes so you should be able to work out which ones you need.
  10. The old Mk1 grey rectangular finder will pick up all collars regardless of vintage. Mk1 collars can only be used with a Mk1 finder. Mk2, Mk3 and Mk3M finders will not work with Mk1 collars. Mk2, Mk3 and Mk3M collars can be used with finders of any vintage. This has been discovered by my own tests and is different to what Deben tell you. Obviuosly mixing different versions of the kit means that the depth the finder is showing is incorrect.
  11. Do you have a circuit diagram for the PCB and list of components? I have some of the potentiometers.
  12. First make sure you have good batteries in both the finder and collar. Use an AVO to check them, the finder one should be close to 10V and the two in the collar 1.6V. If your batteries are good then the finder needs calibrating by adjusting one of the pot resistors. It is quite normal for these to only go to 14ft and not the full 15 but 10ft is poor.
  13. Ordered off them years ago and got the item next day. I would get in touch as I would have expected it to arrive within 3 days.
  14. You are right they are on EBay. Have sold a fair few on there in the last month at between £40 and £45 each so know they will sell at that price especially with the season getting under way.

  19. Updated list to reflect sales. Thanks to everyone that has brought stuff.
  20. Will second that. If you are lucky someone might swap a Mk3 finder with one collar for a Mk1 finder with one collar but a more realistic swap is a Mk3 finder with one collar for a Mk1 finder with 2 collars.
