  1. very good advice, i was assuming the pup would have been exersized before you went out? I am suprised reading some of the responses. I think people put a lot of time into training their pups for working, i.e recall, retrieve, stay leave but don't take the whole dog into to account. They are not a tool that you take out for hunting like a gun an put back in the cupboard when finished, they are alive and have needs, If I was left in a kennel and my only companion was taking away i would make a fuss and then to be hit with a stick for my worries Maybe you need to step back look at the whole pi
  2. Well caught I know I have said it before but I am going to say it again, he is one damn nice looking dog
  3. It really is I don't have any talents so I am always amazed at what peopel can do
  4. I know you guys, most likely, don't go in for such nonesense, but I love it so thought I would this was a gift given to me by someone I have only spoken to on the internet, it was very nice to here and think it captures the saluki very weill what do you think? a drawing of my saluki!
  5. Don't give the dog treats or fuss it just as you're going out!....That's a sure way to make things worse imo. I give my lot a treat when I go out and there isn't a sound out of them. I agree not to fuss him but my lot associate me going out with something nice so are happy to see me leave.
  6. The meaty bones it is a good idea. Maybe you could spend time getting him use to being on his own. Take the older dog out for short length of time to start with and give the pup something to amuse himself with? Do it a few times a day so the pup gets use to being on his own. My dogs live in the house and some of the rescues suffered from seperation anxiety. To get them over it I would go out for short time and increase the time as the dog learned to cope. I wouldn't use a shock collar becaue the dog is stressed and all the collar does is suppress the dogs fear, so it is double stressed if tha

  10. Top one looks good to me, only the best for my hounds
  11. I agree you should get the dogs to the vet ASAP.
  12. I feed my pups three times and then down to 2 times at 6mths I continue twice a day for life
  13. Very good post, I can't believe that the dogs that pass through so many hands will work well for people. I think it takes a great bond for the dog and human thing to work! i got a lurcher pup three years ago. His dad was January Jack and the mum was a deerhound/greyhound. The guy wanted two more pups. When I collected my pup he and 9 litter mates had never been out the three sheds at the back of the garden. they were 6mth old and hadn't seen the outside world. That is unacceptable!!! They had not even had a collar on, didn't have names The dog was a great dog, so loyal, would do anything I
  14. ok i know they are a little more expensive than most others, but i use petplan. I have 13 dogs with them and i make claims on a monthly basis and in 20 years i have never had a claim turned down or even queried. They pay up quickly and continually year in year out for the same condition. I had one hound with a chronic ear problem that never cleared and they paid up £ a month for 9 years....that covered the cost of his insurance premium twice over for his whole life!! I have tried a couple of others just to see if i could sve money...i tried tesco and M&S and both were a waste of time as t
  15. hmm I wonder who the ingnorant one is? Ignorant means "lacking knowledge or sophistication" sure thats not what you mean? Saluki's are well sophiticated
  16. I always take them for a walk on neutral ground when I introduce an adult dog to my pack, with a pup I usually just bring them in. I walk the dogs parallel to each other to see how the react. I am sure you will get a feeling for how they will be together? Good luck and be great to see pictures of your new boy!
