I wrote this to the kennel club ...... I was appalled to see the sad figure of what is supposed to be a Labrador paraded around the ring as a best of class at this years crufts. How can that dog possibly represent the best of what a Labradors should look like. Could that dog put in a days work at a shoot? I doubt it. Could it jump a fence whilst carrying a shot game bird? Again probably not. Could it brave the icy waters of a fast moving winter river to retrieve its owners hard earned prize? I hardly think so. Judges that place these dogs as top of their breed seriously need to be looked a

There is handling where you pick her up and stroke her and put her back in the cage then there is handling where you get her out and play with her role her over on her back ruffle her head etc etc etc ... By doing that you will get her used to being grabbed anywhere at any time and even if she is excited she should then still accept your hand ................

Nothing to do with the smell and more to do with the lack of handling .... You should be able to put your hand into a stop end move the ferret out of the way and pull out the rabbit without fear of being bitten ...... A lot more handling over the summer and chastise the ferret if it bites will cure this by next winter .............

They reckon that a loose running dog does double what you do in miles .... I took the pup for a 10 mile hike yesterday so she must have done 20 miles ... Not that you could tell the way she chased a low flying partridge accross the field opposite my house when we got back .........

For starters there is no battalion in the marines it's commando as in 40 commando 42 commando 45 commando etc .... there is no 22 commando and there was no 22 commando in the Falklands .... The question was taking your dog lamping for the first time .... ALL my pups are out from around 7 to 8 weeks of age running about seeing and smelling the sights of the countryside BUT they certainly wouldn't be lamping then ... As has been said all dogs start at different ages and the current pup I have now I reckon would do ok on the lamp and she is just shy of 6 months ..... Will I lamp her ? No the season is nearly over so what's the point .... I will leave her have a summer on her back to grow and start her on green easy rabbits around the end of August ..........

21 TA SAS will train with 22 on rare occasions but only in a support role the SAS don't train collectively as normal army units do as each troop has its own specialised training and each 4 man team within that troop will train as a unit also ...... There is no doubting that bear grills is a fit bloke a very good climber and a decent parachutist BUT he aint no survival expert and some of the things he gets up to on that show makes me cringe .... But the kids love him he does a lot for charity so who cares ..... If you don't like him like me don't watch ...... Trouble is he only lives a mil
