  1. Definately don't ask for on for "human despatch" Although if they granted it you'd have a superb defence in court. Sorry SS
  2. Quite right, an open ticket gives you the decision regarding if it is safe and no mention of Chief Constables will be on it. Any mention of Chief Constables gives them the decision and it will be closed. I don't know of anyone who has been granted an open certificate on first application, here in West Yorkshire you need to wait at least 18 months. Dry Powder As said in first post it's what it does'nt say that matters
  3. Did exactly the same thing myself, as new Baikal, fit better than anything else on the rack, used for 5 years and only lost £30 when sold
  4. I 2nd the 1 gun approach, just ensure you get a multi choke gun as it will be more versatile when changing from one discipline to the other. As mentioned you may think you know what you want gunwise, but the most critical aspect is that the gun must fit YOU. Again as said, get to the gunshop and bring a few guns to the shoulder. All will become clear when you find one that brings everything into line of fire without having to stretch or stoop or otherwise contort yourself. The gun that fits will point automatically and not have to be aimed as such. Problem is that you could end up looking a
  5. Stick with subs , see what suits your gun, may be winnies, may be eley, may be something else. High velocity .22 rounds are notoriously innacurate and have few fans. Try a few and make up your own mind.
  6. Mr Logic. No Need as i have called my FEO, he says what you said. (and my gun shop) that if your licence reads WITHOUT the phrase "land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police" then it is my responsibility for where i shoot. i.e "its an open licence" if it says "land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police" within the conditions of your certificate then you HAVE to get permission by them to shoot on the said land. end of story.............. for me anyway, thank you North Wales Firearms department. so i have an open ticket for my 22rf, 223, and 270 for ranges only (a
  7. That contradicts what I, and I'm sure everyone else understands by the term "open cert"???? Is thier a different interpretation of the word "open" in relation to rimfire and ctrfire certification???? Doesn't this all your headin???
  8. Don't worry mate I understand perfectly what you and D are saying, not missed the point at all, but my style of shooting is almost invariably done prone, resting on dry stone walls or sat, (which is why I bought the tallest bipod I could find). More a sniping style than free range shooting, due to me being a little less mobile than some. It's each to his own as I said, we'd all shoot the same gun if it wasn't. As it happens my 2 rimmys are a 20" target s/s Ruger in 22, and a 24/25" s/s Savage heavy barrelled jobby in hmr. Good Hunting
  9. Chap I think you are getting a littel mixed up.... We are not talking target and if anything 25" is short for a decent long range target rifle.... Hunting is NOT target shooting..target is repeatable known distances on the whole from the same position with a trigger so fine you breath heavy and it lets go, commonly prone and with a barrel that weights a ton and goes on for a fortnight, and you don't spend all day with a target rifle hung over your shoulder walking around a range looking for your next quarry.....a world different to hunting...cutting a hunting barrel to a manageable lengt
  10. Strictly speaking haw atomic/sub atomic particles 'bump' is condensed matter physics, lol. I wonder if he realises the world is spinning at about 500 mph? If he shoots with the spin he can claim Mach 3
  11. Just think about it, 25" is a flagpole, but for a target rifle it's normal. What is game/ a rabbit? It's a friggin target, yes? Ok, pointability/balance comes into it but just remember you can shorten the gun anytime, you can't weld it back on. Live with it or change the gun, don't devalue it. Not everyones view but it is mine
  12. It's what it won't say on the ticket that matters "Closed" tickets will state on land deemed suitable, or approved, or similar, an open ticket will not be so restrictive as such.
  13. per: I'm sure he's confused that with "gravity"
  14. Thanks for the advice Mr. Logic, I understand and agree with what you say. And if it was just me to please I would have the two rifles but alas I have a budget and she is more savvy these days, the old one of telling her it cost £300-00 less than it did doesn’t wash no more. Ned Pay 1/2 cash and 1/2 on the card, show er indoors the card receipt Works for me So far
  15. I'm be in a minority here, but we have views. You are considering the Sako quad, as said just an impractical gimmick, but it shows you have bob or 2 available. I'm on my 2nd Ruger 77/22, 1st one was s/s tactical nylon stock, present one is laminated/matt gummetal long heavy target barrel s/s. Beautiful accurate guns Also consider Savage Mk2 again heavy barrelled stainless with laminated thumbhole stock. Have one of these in HMR Have to admit to being something of a tackle tart Don't over look 2nd hand deals/packages, money to be saved but find a good dealer that knows the gun
  16. Been thinkin about this for weeks. Obviously too over sexed, will have to try shooting again
  17. I've only had the 17hmr for 6 months or so. Was so impressed with the accuracy at 100mtrs that I didn't consider trying any alternative to the ammo I was recommended, I had already reached my limit. Hornady 17g varmint express for me PS I do value ammo choice with the other rimmy, my .22 shoots distinctly better with Eley subs than winnies or other stuff By which I mean the gun/ammo combination shoots exactly where I point it. It's up/down to me to point better

  19. Not sure I understand that Noel However, as others have said shoot some clays, OR, and better in my opinion get out with a good real pigeon shooter. They don't all fly true from the trap if you understand?
  20. My boresnake will not be so contained
  21. You're right Chalky. We all have to remember that we are only using the land, it's not ours. Even if we retaliated and didn't loose our permission/FAC etc, it's the farmer who would cop for the damage longterm. Yes I've been temptede to shoot a dog, I watched it's owner keying my car from 100yds through the scope. Somehow I resisted. Whatever action individuals feel they would take the farmer has to be with them. EG My original permission farmer new that folks came on lamping and with dogs, but advised me to take no action. He feared that the would come back later and damage his fences etc
  22. With the .17 I couldn't get anything down the bore, let alone a variety of brushes/swabs A bore guide would have hepled in my case. I had set up the gun from new and was running in the barrel in the field, 1 multipiece rod was flung over the fence after about 3 shots and 2 attempts to rod broke it. Went home, bought Parker hale rod and different phos brush, threads differed, and set out again. Managed to strip all the Teflon off the rod at the boly end and gave up in frustration. A week latter I was back with a boresnake and I'm happy to use that everytime out. .22 and above rod rules
  23. Ther's definately a place for FAC rated airguns, but as said hellishly expensive and still limited. I had a Ripley AR4 rated at up to 35ft lbs. The only thing I could use were bisley magnums or the composite prometheus pellets. We had a shoot that was plagued with rabbits that were invading the local well to do residents gardens, they wanted the rabbits gone but didn't want to hear the commotion. The Ripley was absolutely silent were even a moderated rimmy would have been taboo.
  24. I tried to remain conventional with the cleaning gear but the .17hmr is a bugger to rod out. I bust 2 cleaning rods, (1 a parker hale 1 piece), in two sessions. The force required to shove the brush up the barrel wastoo much. Anyway gave up and bought a bore snake, much easier, quicker and less chance of knocking the scope whilst wrestling with 3ft of rod Boresnake for this and didicated rods for other calibres would be my say
  25. Sorry CB but you've missed the point. When I started this thread I asked people to say what calibre they would settle for if they could have just one gun. Most respondents have said either .22 CF or .243. No offence bruv but if you want to argue for .22lr start a new thread! Fair enough mate, not intending to hijack or offend, just wondering when everyone had bought thier one and only gun how many would realise that not only would the have gone into overkill with calibre, but how could they justify a .243 etc for what most folks shoot ie vermin, rabbits crows. Your point regardi
