H,i I too have been a shooter for most of my life, been the same way as you, got hooked up in drinking and shooting. I am a master in both, and advise you of everything you may need to know. Perhaps in appreciation you could help me in the art of shagging?, as I have sadly left that neglected? Signed yet another shooting outcast

My Savage Mk11 hmr came with blocks fitted, this was a stainless thumbhole version. Never thought you got any gun without either open sights or scope mounts fitted? Was it a new gun or s/h?

new permission Roads and footpaths
cyclonebri1 replied to Shocks's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I just tried shooting is this afternoon / evening. Its a right b*****d. The best field has a cycle path on one side and the dual carriage way on the other. I saw 15 rabbits but barely took a shot. As the rabbits stay on the boundary there is a small chance that my round would end up wrong side of the fence. With all the cyclists and walkers I'd have a hard time convincing a non shooting person it was safe. I think the only way to shoot it will be to lamp it. `no one will be around and the rabbits wont hug the boundary fences so much. Gutted as this is my first permission. In that case -
new permission Roads and footpaths

The only law you have to be aware of is and I roughtly quote from memory "It is an offence to discharge a firearm within 50feet of the ceantre of a footpath/bridle path, carriageway or highway, if by doing so you cause distress or alarm to a member of the public". This is total bollox. It means if someone is a mile away and you shoot from within the 50 ft you have commited an offence if they complain. If you wait untill they are level with you take 1 step further back from the footpath and fire over there heads you have not commited the offence Real sound law that one. As an example many -
Knockdown Target for Rimmies
cyclonebri1 replied to SUNDAYBAIN's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
You will need to be pretty carefull where you set up knock downs for a rimmy, if you don't want to send screamers of into the next village -

Should bought a 77/22 Deker s tongue in cheek reply in mind, we should asume the rifle was accurate before? so we must be pretty close ? Or it could just be a crap 10/22 -

Also try a diffent brand of ammo, I've has a 1000 batch of duff winchester subs before. Have you given the bore a good scrub? Take a shot, wind the scope up ten clicks then down ten clicks, shoot again and see if it returns correctly. Or maybe you should have gone to specsavers ? -
You win, no contest

I don't think anyone will take a measure out but quite easy to pace out, I'm sure we all know our own and can calculate from that. Also Many scopes are rangefinder, all mine are, and many carry a separate rangfinder

Where's the oh for fx sake emoticon????

Get on with it youngman, we need incomers, the authorities cannot resuse if you are of good charachter

There is no issue with fixing a cabinet to an internal/stud/non load bearing wall! As long as it is fixed securely, and that may mean 5"long coach screws etc etc it will be acceptable. Into thermalite chemical mix bolts are highly effective. Get on with it

I store 2 rifles with sights attached and in thier sleeves in a 3 gun corner cabinet. Have to remove the bipods though. As this is in the loft, I find a separate ammo safe downstairs to be a better option as you inevitably find the odd round in a pocket after the guns have been cleaned and put away. Safe cost a tenner of ebay, and feo was more than happy with its construction and fitting

I did a measured 175 yd shot on a rabbit with the ruger 77/22 rimmy, had to shoot 3 ft over it mind. Have to add that I wouldn't normally shoot at that range with the .22, but we were shooting so many that we had to make it "interesting". Can just about hit stuff @ 200yds dialed in with the hmr, on a calm day
-
That's the whole point, there is no other tool as suitable/affordable for this, out of range for the .22, and too costly and noisy for a centrefire. I find it a fantastic gun for anyone like me who does not require the added clout of centrefire calibres and the hassle of reloading

there is no doubt that .44 magnum will upset the fox but by law I think min muzzle velocity is required. For example rifle club that I am member, not allowed to shoot anything over 2100fps, .44 magnum no problem but .17HMR not allowed, gives you rough idea. No. This is rubbish I'm afraid, you can shoot the fox with anything you like. Only restriction is the FAC conditions. Shame this rubbish keeps cropping up, eh Mr. L? The actual killing of a pest/vermin, is legal by any means, as long as there's no cruelty issues. The restrictions on a FAC relate to the use of the gun, not the killin

Designed for shooting bullfinches in orchards, when that was OK. We had great fun back in the sixties, (our late teens), shooting each other with these. Once shot a cup from top of stairs to well, cup remained in tact

Me 2, tried most including hi velocity, nothing comes close to Eley for grouping in any rimfire I've owned. Winchester subs do a crascking job on a bunny, but the quality is so variable you never know which side of the sonic barrier they will shoot

Big mistake if you do fella, just listen to what's been said, It's fit that matters, if you can't find one that feels right go elsewhere or wait a while. Ps, it's hard to explain but so easy when you find one that comes to eye correctly

cheers for that mate much appreciated, very helpful as always yeah i forgot about the grit and sand , i'll never forget about it again though b@stard scratches Get a blower brush from the camera shop, only a couple of quids. Has a rubber bulb and jet nozzle to blow grit/crap out of the lens, and the other end is a soft sable brush, like a make up brush. No scratching

finally got my first shotgun
cyclonebri1 replied to luis1987's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi Luis, don't like to see posts go unanswered so I'll just give you a few tips. There are 2 or 3 issues you will face; Most farmers will either have someone "doing that for us", or will not entertain anyone on their land. Your age will go against you, taking it that your about 22 from your signature? I've often had the reply that "don't mind a responsible midle aged man coming on but no young uns' " No offence to youth but thats how it seems. Shoving letters through doors?, may as well stick them straight in the bin, they won't be answered as any one that allows you on theire -
were you using a vehicle to shoot them int he lamp or on foot mate? So about 250 yds square? Errrhmm, you do not need a vehicle on 5 acres bud, you can spit that far.

Go with Welshshreks reply, ie do it at cost, the benefit in kind, ie the goodwill and the possibility will be better than cash. You never know, you may gain access to shoot that golf course, and they are fun
-
I agree Ian, if theres that big a problem shooting alone won't rid it. I would say; don't take money yet, tell him you will sort his problem, go for cost only if you really love the sport, but you need to impress on him that you need the help of others ie, a good ferreter. Make sure he's a mate or he'll be there and you'll be gone
