  1. Dusty, never had a Ruger centrefire, simply because I've never needed one. I have however had 2 Ruger 77/22's 1st an all weather synthetic/stainless jobby, and my new and present target laminated stocked/mat gunmetal stainless one. I don't think you can find better
  2. Perhaps it's an optical thing. I wear glasses for distance and hence shooting, but when looking through the scope I have to remove, dam awkward at times and I've trod on several. But the point is the "spare" eye may as well be closed anyway then as I can't see past the end of the barrel How do others that wear specs fare??
  3. This is whole lot different to keeping both eyes open when on the shotgun, and even thats contensious. I can't imagine anyone who can train one eye down the scope and the other one on wide focus, surely it's just not mentally and physically possible. Yes both eyes looking along the line of sight then one down the sight but both at the same time, NO.
  4. 400 squids should get you better than a baikal. but you may not to need to do that. Start again and gethe best gun hzt fits you, you could be quids in. have to add my first shotty was a baikal. nothing wrong threr but youseem o have few pennies to spend
  5. Sound advice from above, bend around the feo, make him think he is in charge, (he is actually). As an aside when I reaplied for my fac a year ago I put down, .17hmr and .22. The feo went out of his waqy to convince me the hmr and a .223 would be a better combination. 2 points, I wouldn't be without the .22 for anything, And I will probably get a 223 anyway, even if I don't need it, but because I want the experience. Good luck. with yours
  6. Well it seems me and D are thinking alike so in his absence I'll try to help. Not sure about caps but low powered short .22 rimfire ammo is available to limit the performance of the gun. As used in pier end shooting galleries. Also .22 shotgun loads, (dust shot), is availiable for very light weight applications. I'll also add aquestion here because I've never done it. Will .22 dust shot damage a rifle??
  7. I'd agree with Luke on this. Years ago I had a FAC rated Falcon FN19. superbly accurate to about 60 yds. I stupidly sold it because I thought the rimfire was a better option and I had problems with re-fills on the Falcon. The rimfire, whilst quiet compared to an unmoderated .22 or a centre fire, is loud compared to a FAC air rifle. I am seriously considering going back to this option as the ground I shoot on now has a lot of flints and I am very concerned about ricochets with the rimfire. Sib Maybe you need to expand/explain that? The rimfire is loud compared to a centrefire???
  8. I had a .22 Ripley AR4 pnuematic air rifle, used to shoot at 35ft lb. Absolutely silent in operation, but when I got a .22rimfire I was amazed at the difference, not much more noise but not affected by the wind which was the blight of the FAC air gun so I wouldn't go that route to be honest. You will also get a rimmy for 1/2 the cost of a pnuematic air gun. My 1st rimfire was a Bruno with a Parker Hale too
  9. hehheheheee another parker hale fan!!!! but.......i use winchester subs and get on fine with em!!!! maybe have a look n try the eleys......dunnoe if they are cheaper than the winchesters or not. sauer Spend as little or as much as you want, It doesn't really matter. If you are a tackle tart, a nice s/s jobby with synthetic or laminated stock is the Biz, but will shoot no better than a grimey old bsa. Silenser/moderator on a .22 is also relativly unimportant. Anyone used with sub sonic ammo will be wisper quiet. I swore by winny subs for years, cheap yes, consista
  10. So what would his claim be for ? Did the fauly cartridge cost a life?, Did it ruin a weeks shooting???? No of cause not, he lost the cost of a shell, sub a quid. Complain th your dealer, he'll give you one to get rid of you
  11. Check out the reviews for the Savage Mk 11, as revieved by the sporting times, best rimfire ever tested by them if you actually believe reviews? Anyway, I bought one, well happy.
  12. Meanwhile and back in the REAL world and to quote you "At close range, ie sub 50yds or maybe 60, I have NEVER had fox complain, I have however had a couple of runners with the HMR at 100 plus, but that may be me " which is EXACTLY the reason rim fires are not suited to beginners. John We were talking about .22 not HMR, don't get things out of context, rimmy in this post refers to the .22. Not sure what you mean by rimfires not being suited to beginers? , let any newbie try to get anything else and.........., in the real world of course.
  13. Oh come off it Deker. Youv'e read the posts on here. The .22 rimmy is not capable of despatching foxys humanely. That poor basil must have run itself to death, the 22 could never have despatched it cleanly, Meanwhile back in the real world, this is a perfect example of how a low velocity, limited range caliber can be the perfect choice for pest control, does the job, no overkill, and no distress to anything or anyone. The rimfire is a serious tool in the right hands and at the correct range
  14. I'm not sure, Only had the HMR for a year and to be honest it's uses are limited. I don't want to go into that here. At close range, ie sub 50yds or maybe 60, I have NEVER had fox complain, I have however had a couple of runners with the HMR at 100 plus, but that may be me
  15. Sorry Mate but this is a very naive post 1st thing 1st, decide what you want to shoot, then decide if rifle or shotgun, then if rimfire or centre fire, or of cousrse which shotgun. I trully believe every shooter should have to have rimfire experience before they were allowed any centrefire, for the greater good of all of us
  16. Not an expert but I'm certain you would have to remove a spacer rather than add a bit. Don't know how sneaky the PTB have been, but it may be simple or hard, I suggest simple, but don't get caught.
  17. Semi auto has no real advantage other than the fun factor. We all shoot because we like the l shooting lifestyle, not because we think farmers are hard done to,and should be given a helping hand. Bolt action is the way to go if you want a working tool, but many havea semi auto in .22 because it is the only calibre you can get one in?, and when fitted with a 25 shot banana mag we can playaction man/rambo legally. Am I wrong? Edited to say it's a very good way to get shut of surplus/dodgy 22 ammo Can I ask if anyone has or has ever had a Heckler and Koch .22 semi auto?,
  18. I haveto add thatthae nylon stock on my 1st ruger 77/22 gat wet and was attaked bysome sort of mould/fungus. Never got it out of the stock
  19. Forget the stock, but don't forget,(if thats logical), that wood, be it solid or laminated can be refinished many many times. That is very difficult with synthetics or ballistic nylons or whatever. The action/barrel however is a different matter. A blued barrel will rust as soon as you scratch it. The all weather stainless ones however, that are usually "brushed stainless", which in effect means they are not polished but have scratches built into the finish, do not corrode noticeably and wear best. So, IMHO the best finish is laminated stock with brushed stainless gun, but seeing as I
  20. Good one, makes sense with kids, or without. Best of luck.
  21. And that really is the makings of a mockery Which is more deadly a single bullet or an once of shot? Ask any soldier which they'd prefer at 5 to 10 yds. Seriously, and I was being back there, there are some real issues with FAC/SC ammo storage.
  22. Here lies the problem , We cannot expect anyone, be it basc or sacs, to stand up in our defence if they do not realise the extent of concern, agreed? Only by pressure on these bodies do we stand any chance of making our feeling felt. Or am I wrong? I just don't think so, but apathy is the easy option. Please kick that one in the head
