It is daft, only a mass murderer could do more damage with a 5/6 shot shotty than a standard 12bore. But just maybe thats what they(authorities) are targeting???????? Just seems that the headline of 2 being shot would be more palletable than 5 or 6??? To balance this, I too wanted to add a multi shot shotty to my FAC, but the justification makes it seem much less worthwhile. I suppose the real question is, and this is subject to accepting that a FAC is an evolutionary move on from the SC, why can't all FAC holders have a shotgun on the same ticket?

cheers mate.....its just the anticipation is killing me!!! it took them 6 weeks to get in contact with me! You still get 2 certs, just a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle to go co-terminous.
-
I agree, give a good 2 weeks then enquire.

Got mine done by a Rolls royce machinest/ gunsmith. £25, but needs to be delivered and collected. prepare to spend a day talking to the guy. Reproofing only an issue when you want shut. Midlands/Derby area so not much use to you.

Thats a nice "emptied" rabbit. Superb stock on the gun, what is it??

I don't think you should have any issues, read up all you can about range, safety, capabilities atc before you talk with the FEO, convincing him/her that you are a safe sensible individual is why they want to see you. I personally think the shotgun route, ie obtain that 1st, is the best option, not so rigourously controlled and will demonstrate gun sense. I agree that the Club route is a waste of time, your FAC can depend on your continuing club membership, and you don't want that. Be as firm as you need to be at the interview, if you have the shooting rights, a clean record and the righ

Aaron, I haven't reads every post on this, BUT I understand you seem to have been subjected to offensive PMs etc. This shouldn't happen, it's inexcusable to hide behind the ambiguity of the net. That said it was picked up much earlier that how you 1st say a thing can set the tone for what eventually becomes a slanging match. Let me just add one of my experiences that may be of benefit to you. The very 1st farm I had sole permission on was a dairy and arable farm, about 400 acres belonged to a distant relative from a church going background. I was allowed to shoot pigeon, crow, rats and

Some commonsense seems to be appearing out of the gloom. My FEO almost twisted my arm up my back to put a.223 on the ticket along with .22 and .17hmr. But why would I need one? I don't go out lamping, don't go out specifically for Foxies, but do probably take on average about 3 per year, usually when I'm geared up under a hedge bottom and may have a few dead bunnies scattered around. At 20-50yds I have no reservations about taking them at all. If I wanted to set up specifically for Fox I'd go centrefire, but untill that day...... Like I said before, I never heard an issue of thi

But is there any case live or proven where a shooter has been found at fault in shooting a fox with a .22. I don't think there is??
-
I'll add a penniesworth too; Best zero from the ballistics stuff appears to be 59yds for subsonic stuff, 1/2" low at 50 and the same at 20. Longest shot I've taken on .22 was 175yds, shot 3 feet over on estimate but shot dead as a dodo. (rabbit) Chose the round to suit your gun, Winchester has come in for some serious critcism recently, from me included. I've asked the question before so here it is again, has anyone ever been "troubled" by having shot a Fox with a .22. Everyone I have ever shot has been within 40 yrds and dropped before I could lower the gun, fox with a shotgun

Where to keep your certificate
cyclonebri1 replied to lorelei0922's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
On the contrary if the photocopying of the original shows *FRAUD* then thats not legal way either, in strict sense? Or is it? I interpret this as, the new certificates are meant to be carried in original only, for sure when the concerned officer sees the photocopied certificate with 'fraud' printed on it, how would he/she would react? anyways for me I dont need to carry for the time being, no gun and just shooting clays at the club. If the drivers license can be bar coded then firearms licenses can be more convenient in smart card style! And drivers license is more cheaper than the firearm -

I think thats a perfect reason for carrying it then?, the last thing I would want is a copper marching off with my gun and kit, really going to look after it don't you think? You don't go fishing without a licence or permit when you've bought them, or you get kicked off. -
Yeah, must get out and find somewhere to try one. Since I had a double fracture of the skull a couple of years ago, the 12bore kick is enough to affect my sense of balance, not good when you've still got one up the spout

gun cabinet/safe fixing
cyclonebri1 replied to gazguildford's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My cabinet is in the loft, during the 8 years I gave up shooting I keep a dectivated hammer gun in there, never opened the cabinet as I had forgotten it was in there. Still in perfect condition when I found it. I keep my guns in thier fleecy sleeves in the cabinet ready to go. Asc the temp up there is roughly the same as outside there is no condensation issue when out and about. My FEO didn't say anything and had to get up a non fixed but pucka extened step set to view. I do have power. But I wouldn't do it again, it's just too much dam hassle getting the steps out etc and always the risk -
As said, gunfit is the main consideration. The most flashy/expensive gun in the shop is of no use to you if it does shoot where you look. Doubly important as wifey is likely to be built differently, may have to compromise or learn to shoot "off" Don't expect to get a gun altered to fit, if you are talking s/h and budget it just wouldn't be cost effective. With that in mind I wouldn't buy private unless you have the chance to try the gun for size 1st. Get to several gun shops and handle as many as you can, one will eventually fall into place. My 1st sg was a Baikal 12g o/u ejector,

It's more than a little worrying when the police chopper lands in the field next to you too I was out a few years ago, early Sunday morning. Saw a chopper around as I walked down past the farm. 10 mins later after I was tucked up in the edge of the wood the chopper circles me and lands 50yds out in the field. I quickly unloaded and put the gun down, and when the spotter came over got the full story. I kid on his pushbike had been hit and killed on a road a mile or so off. The driver had done a runner and had not been found, they thought he may be hiding up in the local woods, henc -
Fox around the chickens .
cyclonebri1 replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I had an old shooting mate years back, he had lots of poultry farms to cover. Only ever had the 12 bore. His preferred tactic was to tye a dead chicken to his leg on a 20 yd string upwind of the pens. Covered himself in straw and slept. He got a few and suprisingly died with both feet still attached. -
Charlie, thanks, I was looking for that sort of answer, I just assumed, and this was from several converstions with past and even more distant past FEOs, that excessive range target shooting is frownded upon and under no circumstances would it be allowed. A quote from a few years ago; "if you want to shoot at that range you need to join a club". This was when in possesion of an open ticket and shooting many acres approved for centrefire. We do tend to believe the man in the pointy hat Thanks again.

Then inconsistancy rules?, as we all know anyway.

Why are we talking 22/250 for rabbitting? I must admit I missed the fact that the op is well up north But the fact remains that unless he can h******k, convince the FEO he needs an XX/xx calibre tool for shooting bunnies at over 1/2 mile??? This is either about justification, or how to get round the system? If I'm wrong then tell me. Can you get a calibre on your ticket for target shooting on open land??? Sorry to play devil's advocate here, but it is important to the op.

Rimfires- Ruger or Anschutz?
cyclonebri1 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
no, but I did pick one up in the shop and have a look at it- not really long enough, I'll drive past another shop on my way home tomorrow and see if they've got one in and have a better look at it. Not really long enough Barrel wise or Stock wise? If either of those, have a look on their websites at the various specifications, think long and hard about it, and ask your gunny if he can get you one in. SS no neither! as in I didn't look at the rifle long enough to get a proper idea about it! I went into FA Andersons this morning and had a look at a .17 HMR anschutz with -
Thats the safest way to use a .50BMG, Light the Blue touch paper and retire" There was a cracking clip on youtube a while back. 2 guys, 1 shooting a .50 cal at a target in a quarry, the other is set well back from him on the camera. Right handed he takes a shot, the lead comes straight back at him and takes off the lefthand earpiece of his shooting defenders, which flew straight at the camera man. Never scratched either but they didn't try it again
