  1. Must admit I was amazed that the BASC rate that was about £22? the last time I shot, (this may have included somesort of club rated discount), is now about £65. Sportsmans association any good?, don't offer personal injury, but full public liability.
  2. Hi, Last time around I used winchester sub .22s almost exclusively + some stingers. Every now and again you got a batch of winchesters that where anything from super sonic to ok to only just clearing the barrel. Are they any better now, (6 years later), or whats reckoned the best/cost effective now? Also I had a Ruger 77/22 synth/stainless before, loved it and no problems apart from mould staining the Nylon stock. Considering the same again, but do they do the stainless gun with the fancy laminated stock? Off for a few days in the sun but any advise received when I get back w

  4. If your dissability has no effect on any safety issues it will not be a problem...but each case will be looked at individually...I know a guy who powers about on his quadbike with his dog chasing him and blasting away with his shotgun at the same time, and he only has 1 arm!!! Thanks guys, nice and reassuring, couldn't see how it mattered. Think I had the 3 year probationary thing last time, followed by 5 year open ticket. Female FAO this time, must polish up mi charm skills
  5. Ok since the last post I've been out and about, made a few calls etc. Local club has a 5 year waiting list so that route was out anyway. Talked to an old farming friend, brilliant chap and though I haven't been up there for a good few years he has signed the shooting approval ( this was the farm I had approved as "allowable", and when he saw my 77/22 Ruger he went out and applied for his FAC for one, so that stood me pretty well) Two old friends enlisted as referees, so not too many worries there. All paper work will be on it's way today, but just one issue that was worrying me
  6. Hi, and thanks fellas. I was thinking it may count for nothing, but what the heck. I had a block area of around 100 acres inspected and passed. It has been split up since but am still ok with 1 original farmer so will try that route. I was just hoping that once you had earned an open licence it counted for something I supose As I can no longer trudge the fields as I did I didn't want to base the FAC on a list of farms that I would likely as not not visit. My sole intention this time would be a few visits to various farms in Scotland for a bit of vermin bashing. (the farms I visited p
  7. thats what i had to do, i spent £50 diesel and 6 days driving down every farm yard track and knocked on over 100 doors asking for the land owner. Carried my BASC insurance, dressed smartly, and put my 'mature head' on. in the end i've managed to get permission on 2700acres locally. It really isn't easy, i was lucky to have got what i have by the sounds of it from here. Good luck mate The 1st one is always the most difficult, once you get the respect of one farmer that's the key to further access. I found by saying (truthfully), "I shoot on farmer Joe's land down the lane" etc
  8. Guys, a little help please. About 8 years or so ago I let both my SCert and my FACert go. Midlife crisis etc etc. Previous 8 years each with a solid clean record. I had an FAC for 2 x rimfire, for target and rabbiting, plus a couple of 12 bores. Now at age 55 I would like to reapply for my FAC. Will my previous record mean anything? or is it the 3 years probatioanary thing again? Thing is I require the rifle for occaisional trips to "rented" vermin shooting on "allowable" land. Previously I had thousands of acres of farming land to shoot over but am now out of conta
