  1. thats what it says Problem is that if some city slicker hears a gunshot from 1/2 a mile away and turns round because he is either afraid or whatever, then you have completed the offence. Best stick to the 50ft "rule" in my view. My shooting runs along a motorway, feo inspecting the lad said, "technically you could stand on the embankment and shoot", well no you couldn't but he was mocking the 50ft thing. Juess, I've even had coppers pull up on the motorway because I've been walking down the footpath that runs parallel with a gun. I really don't think we need to get too
  2. Hi, need a .223 s/s barrel doing. Used a guy, ex rolls royce, that lives in derby previopusly. Problem is this was 4 years ago and he was in his eighties then I think, for obvious reasons I don't want to phone. Anyone know if he's still going?, or have another contact? Cheers.

  4. We shoot off a bipod and have no problems! Had over 150 foxes with it in 2 'seasons' Are we talking the Hogue stock? I hate the thing with a vengence, but I am not aware of any problems with them, most owners seem to quite rate them from what I can see! Yes the Bendy Hogue stock. Like you I casn see here that many don't find it an issue and shoot well with them, that's great, but I prefer something that moves the cross hairs when I move my hand, :boogy: :boogy:
  5. 2nd hand off ebay, picked one up for a mate from near you at the weekend, 3 gun, BS approved, near new £50. They do crop up if you aren't in a hurry.
  6. Likewise word for word except the duff .22 stuff I had were Winchester subs, that I swore by, gunshop said he's had loads of returns. Just goes to show the all get it wrong sometimes on the production line.
  7. Picked 1 up and put it down because of the distorted rubber stock. Reputedly fine until you shoot it off a bipod
  8. And bear in mind that "allowable" land has a time restriction on it, not sure what it is but they now have to re visit and re certify every so many years. Suppose it makes sense to ensure a school hasn't been built on the land, but it's just 1 more hassle for farmer Joe. and I more reason he is less likely to sign your permission.
  9. I'll text him for you mate Glad you are sorted, but in addition to what you 1st did a few wraps of fibreglass matting around the break and you could have reshaped and finished the stock back to as good a finish as it was previously. Might be worth doing for later if you decide to sell. But the 1 thing that hasn't been raised in this topic, and to be honest it should have been, this "accident" goes to show why safety catches are fitted to all rifles and why they should be used religously. I bet more shooters get shot by their mates than their enemies
  10. This was the thing that worried me, the attitude of Derbs admin. "She" had a very dissmisive attitude towards her "colleaque", the initial enquiries person I spoke to, and rubbished the advice I had been given by him. She then went on to suggest by the time the FEO had come out to visit, the descision would already have been made by in her words, "admin" and I can only assume she was classed as admin. Jumped up pen pusher wouldn't go halfway to describing
  11. I have recently filled my .223 slot, even though I've had a FAC for years. I can't advise on what to buy by experience, not in centrefire anyway. But what I would say is forget the reviews for a while. Visit every FAD in a radius of 50miles or so, and handle as many as possible. I know the primary objective is to be able to hit a target repeatedly but if a rifle has a single feature you don't like then it's like a pimple on yer nose, you can't ignore it. I ruled out 2 rifles I heard good reports on simply for that sort of reason, the Howa had such a floppy stock forend I just didn'
  12. Well, my area is derbyshire too, my application slot was also for a .223. 6 weeks back. Luckily all was well, but I did ring a couple of times to ensure all was on track and to get a verbal that there was no issue. But I too have had real problems with them. My 1st application for a .22 rimfire (many years back) went through fine, but it wasn't until I was stoof at the counter buying a gun that it was pointed out they had put NO AMMO on the ticket, noy having seen one I didn't realise it should have been there even though it was agreed with the FEO. About 15 years ago I had a break
  13. Based on ??????????? Not being funny, just never seen them other than I read someone had bought one back from the states.. China to USA to GB, none too green. Bought a spotting scope for my grandson, when it came it was falling to bits, there was actually a hex nut rattling about inside, I got my money back no quibbles as if it was the norm, I read somewhere that if you want a good one you have to buy 5 and you might get lucky. ATB Bob. http://www.google.co...GKttKsgRPPoku0Q That's fair enough then, It's on the 223 so I'll give it a try.

  15. Just bought a .223 with a barska 6 - 20 x 50 scope on it. Is it worth trying or straight in the bin with it.?
  16. interesting that mate,,, it's somthing ive been pondering over, at the end of the day the hmr isnt the best calibre for fox but it will do a job,,, what ive found is if you shoot broadside then you need to place the shot without hitting the shoulder, i know this is the norm but ive had a couple now that have hit the shoulder and not dropped the fox stone dead,, but give it a very bad flesh wound, luckily ive managed to put another into these fox's to finish the job, but it's only a matter of time before they get away and suffer, so a change in tactics and head shot's may be the way forward...

  22. By nature mixy has the greatest effect in dense populations, In Scots land, it's because the rabbits really are drawn to the bagpipes and the hagiss, and becuase they really do feel safe as the Scots never could shoot straight, even with a blunderbuss. Yes I asked for the replies, but just looking for a bit of paid for holiday shooting, take care
  23. Hi chaps, Look I know this may go against the grain of not paying for vermin control, but, over the last 20 odd years we ventured up from the midlands into the southern countiesof scotland to ejnjoy the scenery and blag a good few rabbits, The 2 farms nmorth of dunfries no l0onger seem to allow/want shooters Is this result of firearms issues in this region over recent years??? or of poor public understanding of country pursuits?? The real query is can anyone provide a couple of chaps that require a few days bunny bashing with some leads to a new location???? Thanks for
