  1. Great pic. Unfortunately there's not many round my house but iv had them come very close while fishing the warfe. Had them less than a rod lentgh away a couple of times while throwing them maggots. Nice photograph!
  2. Gutted what a guy he was, I'm having a few beers for him and watching some of his YouTube video tonight ! Rip!
  3. Cheers Matty! I wish I had a colour camera and a clearer screen, it proberbly looked pants to people who looked at the pics and videos but it was great to see here, watching it daily was very interesting and learnt a lot! Cheers.
  4. Hi, last year I put a couple of bee box's out and my friend gave me 10 pupas, five female and 5 male pupas. The box went out in early march and I tapped the 10 pupas to the back of one of the box's and waited over the next couple of months to see what happened as my old boxs I put out when I was a kid never had a single bit of interest. They emerged mid April and filled about 20 of the tubes. Apparently they put in a mud plug at the back of the box then fill it with pollen and lay an egg, then build another mud plug. I expect there can be 5 per cane straw so then the front is capped there shou
  5. They fledged first thing in the morning before I got chance to put the trialcam out, gutted! Surprised as they still had lots of fluff on them and didn't look ready to fledge! Oh well it was great to have seen this and can't wait until next spring! Cheers Atb tom.
  6. An old friend of mine who I used to shoot with a few years ago said when he was a kid (during the 1950's) he used to shoot crows by using an old steif teddy bear on a fence post and he shot them with his Belgian folding .410 hammergun. Not quite an owl decoy but he was a very honest man and said it worked a treat.
  7. Well a update out of the 9 eggs laid 8 hatched then since updating 4 have died leaving 4 very healthy chicks. I dunno where the chicks went they dissapeared from the nest so I expect the parents removed them. I could not see any chick bodies under the box so they must have carried them away like they have with the poo sacks. Here's a video clip from last week....... And a clip from 2 days ago (click on it as its another video too)....... And a clip from this morning......... Growing fast. Proberbly leave the nest soon as they look out of the bird box hole a lot. I
  8. Used one quite a bit years ago but they more suited to a shotgun to be honest as they swoop at them mainly and not land in my experience. It certainly attracted a lot of their attention tho, from what I hear ones with glass eyes are best.
  9. Nice job! Iv not seen a stock with that effect before. Very satisfying when you do it all yourself, does it shoot nice with that a and we'll spring kit in? Have you put it through a chrono yet? Well done and happy shooting!
  10. Cheers for that, I put it in the tank when the engine was up to temp and did a 100 mile round trip so no cold start (I filled it back up with diesel when I got back so no cold start with veg oil) its a 90 with 200 TDI with Bosch injected pump so should be fine. I'll looks into a twin tank set up soon and it should save a fortune!
  11. Yesterday I filtered 50 litres of waste veg oil and put it in my landy , runs great on it! It worked out I did 100 miles on 6 quid odd lol. Also home brewing too.
  12. Forgot to add I seen camera boxes at the range for £35 quid, best put them up before winter and you can still see the odd bird sleeping in it to get out of the cold and get them used to it for a nesting site too.
  13. Its provided the best entertainment ever, My girlfriend and many others thought I was an idiot when I put it up but now they are as interested as me lol. Great to learn from too, iv got a new found respect for birds their work and dedication is beyond belief! If I baught another camera box I'd deffinately recommend a colour camera.
  14. Yes matt sure am, its been very interesting to see! They are growing fast now, when I get in from work its a shock to see how fast. The parents are working hard to feed them, the female sits on them 50% of the time and the male is doing most of the feed collecting sometimes feeding her too. Sometimes he is only gone 10 second and he is back with a catapiller, there must be lots of food to go at in the cherry tree. The chicks poo into a sack and the female picks them up and carries them out of the box - if seen her feed a couple of them back to the chicks too! Here's a video clip.....
  15. I apologise for the picture quality been bad its only a black and white camera and hard and made worse once the computer has blown them up too.
  16. Finally they have hatched! I was at a show so missed it but had pics sent while I was out...... And a video of them been fed...... Amazing how tiny they are, the parents are feeding them catapillers which you can see them breaking up in there beaks first. She still sits on them most of the time.
  17. It's annoyingly umberlivable to see theese up for sale again at theese prices and no ones baught them!
  18. Is say modded 50 yards for good clear identification but eyeshine much further - ok for shotgun ranges.
  19. Hi patterdale, I may be wrong but I think it is not the size of the led but the distance of it it is from the lens as i noticed this before slightly between my torches. Maybe there is a slight difference in the length of the refractors? On mine they have been a slight different size but still good so its not bothered me as once your in a field with it the difference is hard to see. I been using as matt says, tighter one on the gun and wider one for spotting but I not noticed a big difference while using them. The cheap Chinese batteries have been fine, iv heared people say they are da
  20. Great pics! A trip to a bird of prey centre is an awesome day out!
  21. I think the best shot is a humane shot, taking pride in an instant kill is by far more important than been proud of the long range it was shot at. Better off taking 15 minuits longer trying to edge closer to your quarry if possible or waiting in ambush to get close. Some people are caperble of long range shooting but for me with a sub 12 springer I'm not ashamed to say 40 yards is my limit, more to do with my ability not the gun but humaneness is the top priority.
  22. Iv had the same lens fit one 501b and not the other 501b so I'm sure its a slight variation in the torch heads. No problem tho as the lenses are verry easy to sand down a bit with some wet and dry sandpaper.
  23. Iv not forgotten to update but nothing much is going on while she is incubating. She ended up laying 9 eggs in the end and she is now on them constantly. She only leaves to go to the toilet I think. The male often brings her food mainly catapillars but yesterday he brought her quite a big worm which hung out of her mouth for about 5 mins while she was desperately trying to swallow it, got quite concerned but she never started choking and it dissapeared down her throat in the end. She slept in there every night but up until she had finished laying she covered them in moss each night, pressu
  24. Couldent agree more, well put! In the same boat myself with my FAC airgun. It was sub 12 and I got it put on ticket and don't care about it been de valued as Its my pride and joy with memories attatched so its never going to be sold. Its also a lot more suitable than a rimfire on my permissions therefore a better tool for the job.
  25. catching crays is not classed as fishing, its trapping, crayfish can get everywhere, they walk across land to find mates, so its down to you to do some leg work, piece of string and bit of bacon, then simply do test dunks on patches of water near to where you live, streams/rivers/ponds/lakes etc, if you pull up a red signal crayfish, you have found your spot, then simply apply to the environment agency for some tags, you can have upto 10, so ask for 10, give them the location, if they give you tags, it means that no native crayfish are in the area, if they refuse, its because of that How do yo
