  2. Doesn"t happen to be a castle near by does there or am I thinking of a different place?? wouldnt be my first choice We were on there one day (back of the church)and had a couple of runs when we spotted a fox which of course we ran, we"d just nailed him when the keepers turned up. When they saw the fox they thanked us but said let us know next time you want to come after one of them and let us get on our way, thankfully they turned up 30 mins late lol. Had the head mounted as a momento. About 6 weeks later we picked a ticket up just up the road on what we called
  3. Generally I would say a good dog man can get an extra yard or two out of a dog, many years ago a good friend of mine picked up a dog that had been abandoned on the fens classed as no good. We new the breeding of this bitch in fact he had the litter sister and I had the brother, after some weeks of good food, exercise etc this bitch came good not saying she was a world beater but could put a good show on and was capable of doing the business. The lad who had previously owned her (and dumped her) turned up wanting her back and lets just say he didn"t take her home

Me and roly had a spot a few years back not to far from home where we could always go and get a midweek run on longears had been going there years with no probs nice big open fields, we took a young lad along with us a couple of times and the next thing you know every fecker and his dog was there and the place became red hot. 15. I"ve seen plenty of dogs that were good at there owners chosen sport ie coursing or lamping etc but how many good allround dogs have you seen, dogs that you could take out for a run at long ears but would just as easily turn its hand to a bit of mooching/bushing or wander round a farm and hunt rats and then take a day out with the ferrets marking sets and picking up bolters that slipped or missed a net and even spend a night on the lamp and put bunnies in the bag. A propper all round lurcher!!!
  16. Yep I have my preference like anyone BUT I just love to watch a good dog do its stuff, there"s nothing finer
  17. Mate of mine had a little dog about 21" that was a mix breed but with greyhound, labrador in the mix and he was a little cracker both daytime and night. He had a terrific nose on him, faced any cover, worked with ferrets to rabbits or rats, watched him work moorland on a brown hare using his nose and kept pushing it and eventually caught and retrieved it we were stood on a hillside overlooking it and watched it all was a terrific piece of work by this little dog. He took fox both day and night and double numbers of rabbits were not a problem for him yet if you saw him you wouldn"t have given t
  18. Ran a few up Glossop way a few years ago
  19. I know mate and speedy is slagging dogmen for not knowing a good hare from a bad one..... But speedy doesn't even know there is more than one type of hare.... Would have thought that was an easy one to sus, don"t give the same runs as browns do they?
  20. Send for NCIS lol, lets get the forensics done.
  21. The laguna line where very much a coursing line started circa 1947 by dorrit mckay but where shown and raced as well and many feature in todays working whippets dare I say it mainly down through the sooty sam lines. Sorry but the mere mention of that name could totally ruin this thread. The truth of the matter is that there are many strains of whippets out there more than capable of holding there heads up in the working field and I agree for me a whippet should be a whippet
